If you liked Another Crab's Treasure, perhaps Clash: Artifacts of Chaos may be interesting, a 2023 game and a prequel to Zeno Clash. Likewise very colorful and creative with many weird creatures, though not *quite* a Soulslike. Awesome atmosphere and music with solid gameplay and writing. Aside from getting lost sometimes i'd say there's not really any downsides to it. It's more melee and martial arts-oriented than weaponry, too. I prefer to speak of it as its own thing but if i had to compare it with something, it would be God Hand.

Thank you for not talking about the fact that you can turn off the timer in Unsighted. It isn't good and too many reviewers pretend like its a good option. So much of the game comes from the timer mechanic and it is by far the longest thing people talk about when they talk about the game. Even yourself said there isn't anything crazy to the game other than being solid without the timer mechanic. But a lot of reviewers see that option and look on their experience with the timer and recommend the game with the timer off despite never actually trying it. So good on you for being the one reviewer to actually not do that whether intentional or not

24:39 not only that but also the level design and game design is incredibly smart with the whole time mechanic, you already showed the spin jump that skips water, that is a secret tech for water movement, the ""intended"" way is to get ice grenades and later on ice shuriken to create ice platforms, but if you are skilled enough, you can get nearly everything blocked by water in the whole game with only the spinner, that is but one mechanic, you can also walljump, there are puzzles in the overworld that are like, push block then climb, that takes a lot of time, with the walljump you can just bypass that, the game gives you quite literally a fuck you button that you can press at will, any obstacle the game gives you, it also gives you 3 or more options to do it faster, exploration not only is rewarded with more meteor dust to keep people alive, but skill is rewarded by exploring faster and better and saving even more time; yet another example, the first dungeon intended order, you leave the dungeon, do A WALK that wastes a shit ton of time, just to get the shuriken and burn the roots to proceed through the dungeon, alternatively, you could also parry the anima monsters at the end of the prologue instead of losing to them, if you do so, you'll be rewarded with a flame sword, problem solved, you can skip right to the end of the dungeon no questions asked, if you lose that, you can also quickly get 3 meteor dusts and give to the weaponsmith in the initial town, his reward is a sword that has all 3 elements at the same time, including fire, so yet again, problem solved, you can also just go straight to the library for the second dungeon, get the spinner, and break the rocks blocking the wasted city, getting access to Rachel's Axe really soon, aka the best damaging weapon in the game, there is a LOT you can do, you can even get the final dungeon AT THE FUCKING PROLOGUE, and do the dungeons at inverted order, this game is just a lot, and I fucking love it

Another game I'd highly recommend trying is Worldless, it came out last November and it honestly astounds me how little traction its garnered. It's a metroidvania with my all time favorite combat system, where you have to defeat opponents by absorbing them for new skills without accidentally killing them, and it plays like a mix between turn based combat and a fighting game. There's also a free demo that does a great job at introducing how in-depth the combat can get. It's also absolutely gorgeous aesthetically, with a minimalist art style where character designs are outlined with various points like a constellation, and their full form can only be briefly viewed when struck by an attack.

Hey Yakko, I'm actually a bit of a nerd when it comes to 3D Platformers and know about the existence of some you may like, as you said in the Penny's Big Breakaway segment that there aren't that many. I will say though, I haven't played any of them yet because I've also been dabbling around with music production and analyzing many weird and groundbreaking soundtracks, so I can't tell you how good these are: - Orbo's Odyssey - Demon Turf - Blue Fire - Super Sammy Roll - Corn Kidz 64 - Cavern of Dreams - Super Kiwi 64 (just like Toree 3D, this game is tiny and extremely cheap) - Sephonie - Castle on the Coast - PsiloSybil (Crash Bandicoot style) And that's all I have, hope your music production endeavours go well :)

an almost hour long video for this series? sign me up sad to hear this is gonna be the season 1 finale for this series but I do respect it and yeah these videos take time to make don't blame you at all if I have to wait 6 months heck even a year for season 2, I will because that's how good this series is you show people games that deserve more attention and tell us why its worth our time to check out Yakkcomn it is a crime that you don't have 1 million subscribers with how much effort and time you put in these videos you have earned it in my book to get the Gold slab that is for 1 million subscribers best of luck to you with whatever you got planned next to work on oh and one more thing Yakkocmn Have a Great Day 🖖

I gotta say you are so good at making games sound interesting I'm not sure if it's just that or the games really are that amazing. I fear my Steam backlog will not shrink for a while.

I am so immensely thankful when you find some incredible gems to highlight; Rabbit & Steel being mentioned made me so happy, knowing the work of it being a solo dev project and knowing that all the more support means even MORE we can see from them. I HIGHLY recommend checking out Maiden & Spell at some point!!! It's Mino_dev's previous game and it's a fantastic shmup. We seriously have been showered in such fantastic indie games the past few years. Rusted Moss is likely one of my favorite metroidvanias ever, next to Nine Sols, Maiden & Spell and Rabbit & Steel both being fantastic solo dev projects with wonderful art have given me such wonderful charm to admire, and there's just. So many more beyond even that.

Awesome selection ! Balatro is my game of the year, so addictive and perfectly crafted. Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is also an incredible expérience that I loved. I didn't play Another's Crab Treasure, Penny's Big Breakaway and The Big Catch: Tacklebox yet, but those are on my liste so I plan to do it soon. I would add 2 more games though : - Animal Well, my second favorite indie game this year, right behind Balatro. Incredible atmosphere full of mysteries to solve. - Nine Sols, the indie game with the best fights of the year, especially the boss fights which were perfect.

Yo! I absolutely love void stranger and love to see it mentioned. I have over 100 hours in that void and I loved every bit of it. The only ones of these I haven’t heard of was Lorelei and unsighted, but given how great the other picks are that might change soon… As a game I would definitely recommend, I would say La Mulana. I am actively playing it right now and the only way I can describe it is a “knowledge based metroidvania”. To me, it feels like the halfway point between void stranger and animal well. The whole game works by making you solve puzzles as an archaeologist that require you to make notes both about what you read and what you see. The game has so many Aha moments that I felt the feeling of waking up with a void stranger puzzle solution all over again, but this time with ancient mythos from all over the world. The only gripe I have with the game is that the translation is a little rough around the edges, and I personally play with Coolant’s updated game text mod to retranslate the bits that are lost in translation. Lastly, I would love to hear anyone who’s reading this let me know their favorite “discovery games. Yknow, outer wilds, tunic, etc. I personally divide them into 2 categories, one where you are always discovering information, and ones which save the puzzle solving for last. I like to call them “discovery” and “rediscovery” games respectively. Rediscovery because you go back to the old world with new eyes. Anyways, the discovery games I have played and recommend are outer wilds, return of the obra dinn, antichamber, la mulana and inscryption. The rediscovery games I have played are tunic (favorite), void stranger, Fez, and animal well. That’s all. Thanks for reading!
