Cat has sold 6000 D11s.Saw a D475A @ Conexpo 87 in Las Vegas,Caterpillar does not have a front shovel to compete with the PC8000.7:09 the guy standing in front of the 11 foot high blade is Tim Twitchell of Gowanda,NY.

There's a couple of companies here in the UK that has replaced D11s with a Komatsu D475A-8 and they are saying it's a huge improvement over the CATS .

355A is legend, killdozer forever, regarding the constant confrontation between fans of Caterpillar and Komatsu bulldozers, it’s like BMW and Mercedes, it’s an eternal battle. I think CAT super expensive but slighly more reliable, but Komatsu better in ripping because of more footprint and classical undercarrage. Well, the title of the largest serial bulldozer still goes to Komatsu. For the better or not, the сat never presented a competitor for the d575 SD in the past. I like both brands

100% agree with that. Americans will always go for CAT for patriotic reasons anyway (nothing wrong with that) so feedbacks are not always about the machines themselves tbh. Proof is in the numbers though: you'll see many more Komatsu mining excavators (just talking about excavators here) in american mines than Caterpillars. So what contractors think is always different from what operators and technicians think. Dozers are a different animal though. CAT's dozers are total winners. But it doesn't mean Komatsu's are trash by any means.

Agree. In addition, now after the acquisition of P&H, Komatsu is the undisputed leader in rope shovels, 4100 machine totally outseld cat shovels with good reasons. Both brands have strong and weak sides. But i like both brands, they both do good machines if you maintain it good@@miningshorts

​@miningshorts There is a huge difference in speed between a Cat and Komatsu excavator. I like my Cat paving equipment, but their excavators seem slow in comparison to a Komatsu at least in the 300-400size machines normally on smaller sites.

@@gumballer133They are slower indeed. And put it this way: Liebherr excavators in this size class are even slower (but reportedly more powerful).

@miningshorts Wow. That's interesting. The thing about the slower machines, especially the old dozers is they don't beat themselves up as bad. Unlike the new dozers that do 10-12mph in reverse and operators think they need to go that fast. You see $10 bills flying off tracks when you have some cowboy in a new D8 full speed reverse on the job.

Cat has some of best parts availability. I have a 1055 Cat paver, plus 2 Cat smaller rollers. If I need something I can usually get it next day.
