A Canadian here. Lots of people asking how do you get work at these mines - and there are way more than what this video touched on. Well to start with, you HAVE to be a Canadian citizen - so that means you have to immigrate here and go through the process of becoming a citizen. While in that process, if you qualify you will be given a landed immigrant status, which will then allow you to work in Canada. That doesn't mean you will get work, as most places will NOT hire anyone that is not an actual citizen. Contrary to what Kwan Fung has said, it is near impossible to get legal status to work in Canada, unless you are a highly skilled and qualified person in a very high demand field - such as doctor. Or if you want to work in the tourism industry at hotels/resorts as a "slave" Due to high unemployment in Canada, ALL of these mines are definitely hireing Canadians first, and there is NO shortage of them lining up and applying. A good example of this is the oil sands in Ft. McMurray. When an entry level position comes up, these companies will receive hundreds of applications for 2-3 available jobs. Priority is given to indigenous people, then diversified groups such as women, handicapped, etc, then Canadian males. The chance of a foreign worker ever getting employment at any of these mines is near impossible, unless another big "Boom" cycle happens

Hey, Kwan! Love your channel - the only one about mining engineering actually. Im a mature student studying at an Mining Engineering program in Ontario. I was just wondering, how difficult it was for you to find internships? Do you think I should extensively describe my Mining enxperience (i have 6 years of Open Pit mine planning) or it is better to decrease the list of my positions (I used to take those positions in my homecountry, but now I am an immigrant starting from scratch)? The thing is that I heard that sometimes Employers prefer hiring "green" young Interns so that they could train them the way they want, because sometimes it is difficult to re-train someone with an established mindset in mining.

Hi Molino, thanks for commenting. It was of moderate difficulty for finding a job. The commodity price would definitely have an impact on the number of companies looking to hire. I would say still show your experience, as most companies I think would want to minimize the training time. Your mining experience should also set you apart from most candidates which probably won't have mining experience. Hope that helps

Apparently, you didn't consider the necessary outside industries that were required to get your mining resource to market. You see a railway, without seeing rail cleaning operations. You see these mines in operation, and presumably, you think that the material to get the product to market is as simple as showing up in Toronto, You're not looking at the full picture. I see Diavik, and I see how many road crews to get that tractor-trailer to the actual pit in the first place, then, you consider "electrical" vehicles to replace the human element, I'm guessing, that the human element built the roads for your electrical vehicles, out in the middle of the permafrost, you just added to the cost of the mine.
