Hey Eric, I think it'll really depend on what you plan on doing. If you are thinking sausages in the future, 100% go with the 1600. You cannot beat it. My recteq 1250 cannot do proper sausages, its extreme smoke mode is still too hot. From my testing, S mode is supposed to be 180* but it actually drops down into the 150s. Perfect for sausages and amazing for bark buildup using pellets. If you are only going to do briskets, chicken, pork or what have you, the 1150 is AMAZING. Very hard to beat.

I've been waiting on my 1150 to come since April ... Pit Boss says they should have stock in Canada again soon. At least it should have the updated controller when it eventually shows up! I've almost caved in a couple of times and taken the 850 ... but I've waited this long ... guess a few more weeks won't kill me. Even if I'll have to start smoking in the snow if they don't get their supply issues sorted out!

@@ElSenorBbq Great to know. THANK YOU! BTW, went out to burn off my new smoker this AM, freaking auger motor was broken from the mount! So, loaded it back to and swapped it out at Lowes. The lazy kid, yesterday, gave me the display.....which they admitted today....was likely a known defective unit, and likely why it was the display unit. Anyhow, brought this one home and burned it off with no problems. Took it to 450 for 45 minutes, then let it cool down.

To your pid controller, lowes dropped the only new in box model they had sold me their display for discount. I told pitboss all this got new controller free shipped to home. I agree on racks the upper rack gets pulled during alot of my cooks. I don't sear on it. I used my 6 burner. I also found the shelf while handy but anything tall lid hits it. The truth from grills to smokers you need to learn what your working with. I married into large Italian family now I'm running smokers or grills for 60 plus. On mine fine but I'm in charge across the u.s.... I agree with the hopper during a tropical storm under just a porch cover, she chooched and for lunch we had great lunch. Now I bought 1150 my brother bought every accessory as payment for his home projects... so having everything makes it cake. But I'd buy again after year.

It's supposed to be really good and even though it never happened to me, I know from comments in alot of my videos where this is certainly a known issue. Picking one up won't hurt anything will most likely that much better. Pro tip - I highly recommend putting a handful of pellets inside the fire pot when you remove it (from the easy ash clean out), put some in there not a whole lot, put the fire pot back into the smoker and fire it up. This did an amazing job coming up to temp quick!

Great vids..I am going by your info vs pit boss because much of the time these people on the phone don't know what they are talking about! ..eg Smoke mode. Also I like the build quality. Any plans to do that temp modification? I hear there is one that goes right over the fire box..evens out temps but you have to put it on a sliding lever or move it outta the way to direct sear.

@ElSenorBbq 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Great White North, I feel some of the folks on the phones don't own these smokers or are fully trained on them so i go off of my own personal experience. I haven't had the need for the modification that goes right over the firebox. Personally, I just learned how this smoker works and use it to our advantage. It's not all that bad and I like it this way so I can have the brisket point on the hotter end, same thing with whole chickens having the leg/thigh on the hotter end. Works great!

So subscribed! First ever cook tried some brined salmon at 190F and then tonight 2.5 hrs smoke( top rack with drip pan underneath) on a Wagyu tomahawk at 190F...it actually got up to 130F internal. It's crazy hot up here...we have never, never seen outside temps of 106F!! And yeah...I found there is no 180F on the smoker..its just "S" like you said which is smoke mode. Does it create more smoke? Only time will tell. Keep smoking buddy! Keep the great vids coming.
@ElSenorBbq
@ElSenorBbq 3 жыл бұрын
You'll notice in smoke mode that the pellets smolder instead of keeping a fire going. When the temps drop, a fire gets ignited then goes off again letting the pellets smolder once more. I noticed this after a cook, I open up the sear plate and look inside and there is a bed of pellets in there just smoldering without a fire. Temps drop, it feeds it fresh pellets and the fire starts again. It's a very good way of doing it, almost like the Traegers super smoke mode. We've done salmon as well, fantastic on the smoker!!

Yeah that top rack can be a pain. I go at it from an angle, start from the corner of the bottom rack, angle the top side over the rail, then go to the far left so you can bring up the other side and then set it in. That has worked the best for me.

Pit Boss sells a cast iron cooking grate ( that matches the originals )that one grate takes the place of 2 of the grates that came with the 1150, that can be put in the center of the grill with 2 of the remaining CI grids one on each side, I like this idea to get that seam between the 2 small grates off the center over the sear plate area. The part number from PB is PBPEL110030681, it costs $40, a little pricey but I would like the idea of one large grate ( 19.5" x 17" according to PD Tech Support ) in the center, and a 19.5" x 8.5" on each side that came with the 1150.

If you are searing a steak you want a cast iron, grill marks are for people who want a steak to look pretty and marinade them and use A1. Sear a steak in a cast iron, do it properly.

@ElSenorBbq Жыл бұрын
I'm going to have to disagree with you here my man. The char from an actual fire onto the steak has way more flavor than a cast iron skillet. The other thing is A1 sauce does not exist in my vocabulary either. I don't know of any other person that uses it tbh. Not saying it's bad but no A1 sauce should be used on a properly cooked steak.
