Several years ago I purchased the Pit Boss model PB1000T2. I did have some problems with it when the augur motor died. After the second motor laid down on me I visited with PB and was told about the 5 year warranty. They replaced that motor and later the mother board after it shorted out due to operator error. The company has been great to work with. The only complaint I've ever had was that it didn't seem to get enough smoke flavor into my cooks. After I discovered smoking tubes I no longer have that problem. Thank you Pit Boss for your support and quick response to my problems.

We’ve had our Z Grill ZPG-450A pellet grill for a little over two weeks. kzbin.infoUgkx3c8DmtYRYEKYTiR4g7y6Yc2amUPVs_3X It was relatively easy to put together, with 2 of us. (friend and I)The grill seems well built and heavy duty. I followed the start-up directions, and then cooked chicken on it that evening. We’ve since cooked burgers, pork chops, meat loaf, and steak on the Z Grill and love it. I’ve used a hardwood mix (per my Son-in-Laws recommendation) and we are very happy. Like cooking in an outside oven with a nice smoky taste. This is a perfect size for the two of us, and would probably work fine for a small family also.All the things we have cooked have kept their moisture, and remained juicy. No burning on one side!My next challenge will be a brisket. We highly recommend the Z Grill 450A, so far. Hopefully they did get whatever “bugs” fixed from previous models (per the description on Amazon). I’ll update our review after a few months.

So, before I watched this video, I watched your video of the best grills under $1199, and it was great. I see that the pit boss you had in that video, is the sportsman 1100. The main differences to me seemed to be, the shelf on the right side of the 1150 pro VS the removable carry tray on the 1100 sportsman; the PID full color controller on the 1150 pro VS the older style controller on the sportsman; the absence of the "jerky" rack on the 1150 pro VS "jerky" rack on the sportsman, and lastly, the hopper window on the 1150 pro VS no hopper window on the sportsman. Both grills to me, even with those main differences, seem great to me. It seems to me, that with the PRO, you get, if you get the newer model, or get your controller updated, that you get more tempurature control with the Pro. I saw at the end of this video, the things you would like to see better with this grill. I really think the Pro is probably the grill/smoker I would choose, however, putting that removeable carry tray from the Sportsman, on to the pro, would be pretty cool to me, so you could use it either as a shelf, or as a way to start putting some cooked food if you dont have another person bringing you a tray for cooked food, or in case you forgot one on your own, and it could still be used as a shelf. I do like the forward facing hooks of the pro VS the sportsman. So, I think I would choose the pro over the sportsman, but love that sportsman shelf, so, does anyone, or you, know, as you said in your other video that you can upgrade the sportsman controller unit, is the upgraded unit the same that would be in the 1150 pro? Also, that window in the hopper is pretty cool! So, I guess what I am saying, is, If I could have exactly what I wanted, I would have the sportsman 1100, with the hopper and controller from the pro 1150, or, the pro 1150, and have the removeable tray on the right, with front mounted hooks

I just ordered mine from lowes. They do delivery and assembly for free. I so can't wait. My first pellet grill was a treager and dam thing caught on fire wasting a brisket on first use. That could of literally burned my house down since it was right next to it on a wooden porch. So, I am still getting a little ptsd from that for using these. How is finding grill grates for this thing when needing to replace?
@gdean1873 жыл бұрын
I recently got the first version knowing that I may need to send back the board. It wasn't an issue of 10 degrees but it wouldn't hold at 225 most of the time. The auger just wouldn't kick in at these lower temps like it should. Tech support had me do 3 more burn-ins. When that didn't fix it they said they are just going to send me a new one. They don't have the customer mail back their current one anymore to be flashed is what I was told.

I bought the slightly smaller version of this model two months ago. This video did a good job of reviewing this smoker and I agree with so many of the comments. Assembly was easy but you need two people or super long arms. I pulled it off by myself just barely. Also a good comment that this is a smoker first. I bought it to smoke and am not a big fan of it for grilling. Small area for searing and uses quite a few pellets. Its heavy to move but I think they used good quality wheels for both the fixed and caster wheels. Good on hard surface ok on grass. The only thing I think I would have comment not in the video is the cord is too short or too long. Its about 4-5 feet not long enough to reach anywhere without an extension cord. but long enough that you have to wrap/unwrap. Either put a 10 foot cord or a 12 inch cord. Over very happy with smoker and the product for the amount of effort needed. The Smoke It ap is nice that you can monitor anywhere.

Hi David , I just watched this video again. I have the same smoker with the improved PID, in your video when you showed the box it came in there was a picture on the box that said Smoke Density Control. If you can sometime look into how to produce more smoke on this smoker , in the PID there are the words "Recipe and Set " which does this but it is so confusing how to use it . I find the smoker does not put out enough smoke. The instructions in the manual are terrible. I know the newer PBs have come out with VST so you can up the smoke. Anyway any tip or info you can provide would be greatly appreciated . Thanks for your great videos.

Love the reviews - I have an older pit boss. The thing seems to run hot always and grease gets down into the bottom of the grill which makes cleaning a big pain. Plus danger of fires. It looks like they’ve taken care of those issues? Thx

I just found your channel, I love it. I live in Canada and I want to buy my first smoker (so yes I'm a newbie). I was set on the Pit Boss 700 as I like the lever to switch to searing but then I saw your video on the Master built 800. So now I don't know which one to get. I feel like the Master built 800 offers even more with the griddle and the taste of charcoal. Thoughts ?
@TheBarbecueLab2 жыл бұрын
The Masterbuilt is truly 3 grills in 1 with the inclusion of the griddle. The charcoal taste is stronger than the pellet taste on meat from my experience, but my review was that the Masterbuilt still had some electrical bugs in the system that caused my unit to turn off unexpectedly. Maybe they’ve worked that out now, I’m not sure, but either one could be a great smoker for the back yard.

Great video as always. I am torn between this and the Gravity Series 800. I currently have a small pellet grill, Weber Performer, and an ugly drum. Which way would you lean between the two, now that you have cooked on both? Thank you and keep the videos coming
@Rudy85583 жыл бұрын
It’s funny I’m in this very same debate. I’m leaning more towards this just because of the research on the gravity with the fire box getting too hot and warping and melting it that you almost have to buy a modification insert to prevent this makes me a little worrisome about the longevity of it. I’m thinking this will prolly be the one for me.

Have you reviewed the rectec 700? If so, which grill is better between the rectec 700 and the pit boss 1150?
@TheBarbecueLab2 жыл бұрын
I haven't reviewed the RecTeq 700 yet, but a friend has one that i've seen a couple of times. First thing I'd say is that the 700 is $1,199 and the 1150 is $699, so you're at about double the price for the 700. That alone puts them in different brackets for me. The second thing I'd say is in the names themselves. The cooking square inches in the 1150 over the 700 is 450 more square inches of cooking space because the Pit Boss comes with an upper rack, which is optional on the Recteq. Those are the first two things I'd look at. To go deeper, I'd need to get more hands on with the 700.

@TheBarbecueLab3 жыл бұрын
I so rarely use the top rack in a grill they’re pretty much an afterthought for me. I usually pull them out and store them in the garage unless I’m doing so much food that I need it, and then I’ll grab it and put it in. So, it may be tough to pull out, and I just didn’t do it enough to realize it. I’m around 6’ tall, and the lid handle didn’t really bother me, but I’ll have to see next time I’m out there.

I personally love a pellet grill over a propane. I started with a propane many years ago, and I think i'd have a hard time going back after using pellet grills and gravity charcoal grills. For me the difference between Pit Boss and Traeger is app functionality. The Traeger app has more features currently and recipes that you can start on the app where it will control the grill for you. The Pit Boss is about half the price, and there are more differences, but you can watch our Traeger Ironwood 885 review and compare it to this model to see what's different between the two. Best wishes as you decide which is best for your cooking style!

Thanks David, love the reviews. I'm starting to narrow down my choices, I think. Curious of your thoughts for someone single, will host gatherings from time to time, have a very nice Weber gas grill, looking for a smoker that is quality, but not too crazy when it comes to price and size. Pit Barrel? Rocky Mountain? Pit Boss vertical? Other? Thanks, cheers

I don't have this one but the older version and let me tell you I love it . I have a offset smoker and gas/charcoal grill combo and it been 1 yr and I haven't touched neither. The pittboss is amazing 1 yr cooking at least 2x per week on it and not 1 single problem. May sale my other grills just to purchase this one. Want hurt to have 2 of the greatest grills on the market 😁 just my opinion. If you buy one you will not regret it promise you . I've cooked quarter of 🐖 to brisket, chicken, porkchop, hotdogs, hamburger, fish you name it and once you learn this grill your wife will never I mean never want to go out and eat again 😜 might even get you some brownie points 😃 .Enjoy it I do ‼️

Very easy to put together. Just heating mine up for the first time. Is it suppose to take awhile go heat up?
@TheBarbecueLab3 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure that I usually have mine to smoking temperature (250 range) in 10 minutes or so. To get to grilling temps, that takes another 3-5 minutes with mine.

Just bought an 850 which is just a smaller version . Got it together by my self but second person would have helped . So is the trick to these grills just knowing what temp a certain meat is done?
@TheBarbecueLab2 жыл бұрын
That's certainly one of the tricks you'll need for success. Depending on the cut of meat you're wanting to cook, there are temperatures that are recommended as "best" for each cut depending on what your desired outcome is. If you're wanting to do a pork butt or brisket and you want a good amount of bark on the meat, you'll start around 190-200 and let it run overnight to build up a bark, then when you wrap up the meat to help it through the stall point, the bark will be set and you can turn the grill up to 250-275 to finish the cook. There's lots of knowledge that comes into play with pellet grill cooking, so I'd suggest watching a video or two on the topic before jumping into a cook. Best of luck!

Quick question- does this have heat distribution issues like the origional PS1150? On my ps1150 the right side was always HOT and the left was always cooler.
@TheBarbecueLab2 жыл бұрын
This cooker is on loan at the moment for some long term testing, but from what I know about pellet grills in general, they're almost always going to be hottest right over the fire pot and cooler the farther you move away from the fire itself. In most pellet grills, the internal temperature probe is located on the inner left wall closest to the pellet hopper, so it's measuring temperature on the far left of the chamber and well above grate level. With any unit, it's important to run something like a biscuit test to understand where the hot zones are in any cooker. We are testing new pellet grills right now, and we're including a heat zone test with each unit, so in the future content, this will be addressed moving forward. All the best!

I was able to put this grill together by myself it is actually pretty easy. My toughest problem was it was a hot day and the parts got hot in the sun. Keep the parts in the shade and this is an easy install for one person.

How does the smoke setting work
@luckytoo73 жыл бұрын
@@jameshuff8763 I've found i can keep the temp more consistent by using the app but at 250 it tends to fluctuate between 250 and 198. Not sure if it my smoker or common with the pit boss. It might also be the weather in my area. I live in northwest Washington state.

How you doing great video I'm purchasing the pitboss 1150 Would you say this machine is better than a The treager pellet grill or do they run about the same cause they both say treagers and pitboss do not have accurate readings Need some help
@TheBarbecueLab3 жыл бұрын
When it comes to reading temperatures at grate level across a pellet grill, I’m not aware of a single grill that has completely even cooking across the entire grate for under $2,000. It really comes down to a single burn cup where pellets are burned, and it’s just going to be hotter in most cases where the fire is. Both Pit Boss and Traeger make good grills. They each have somethings they could do better, and Traeger seems more refined when it comes to their end product, but you’ll pay about twice as much as a comparable Pit Boss. You just have to decide which one best fits your cooking style and what you like to produce when it comes to barbecue and grilling. All the best!

How much of a temperature difference is there throughout the grill? It seems like the center would be hotter than the rest of the grill.
@TheBarbecueLab3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t run a biscuit test on this one, but I would assume the center is hotter since that’s where the fire is. The deflection plate does disperse the heat though, so in my experience it’s not a profound difference. Not enough that it bothers my planning when I’m smoking something.

The probes are used to keep tracking of the food you’re cooking?
@TheBarbecueLab2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the external probes are used to keep track of the internal temperature of different foods on the grill.

Any thoughts when comparing this smoker with the Cuisinart Oakmont? Since you explicitly make the case (in this review) for considering the qualities of the Pit Boss independent of its "open flame" feature, which the Oakmont lacks, how do you think they compare? For instance, are you swayed by the Cuisinart's cast-iron grates (which you particularly liked in your other review)? Similarly, would the Cuisinart's double-walled lid make a difference for you? Sizewise, weightwise, and featurewise, they are similar... What makes the difference to recommend one over the other for you? Thanks!
@TheBarbecueLab2 жыл бұрын
It's been a few days since I had the 1150 fired up, but it's very similar to the Oakmont. I do like the grates of the Oakmont better. They're really great. I like the open sear function on the Pit Boss, as long as you view it as a sear station, and not it's ability to grill in a very small area. Searing off a roast or a tomahawk steak works really well over that sear feature, but I wouldn't rely on it for burgers since you just can't fit enough over the opening. To me, it really comes down to what features you like the most between the two. Which seems easier to clean for you? Which has the shelf space you'd see yourself using? What about the mobile apps? Do you plan on using it with a phone to control it while you're away? I'd look at those kinds of features and make my decision that way. I've used both, and I like them both. I think the decision comes down to personal preference on everyday use and what features draw you more.

do you still cook on this grill and do you still like it
@TheBarbecueLab2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ttoy360, the grill is currently at a family members house, and it’s holding up great. Still getting cooked on, and it has a ton of room at this price point.

Any problems with smoke leaking from underneath at the clean out tray? Mine doesn’t sit tight which lets smoke out, don’t know if this affects the smoking process much..
@TheBarbecueLab3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t noticed smoke leaking out of the clean out tray on mine, but I can’t imagine it’ll affect the level of smoke. Pellet grills aren’t built to hold smoke in like an offset. They’re pretty porous.
