To fit my bust, clothes sizes are always huge in my shoulders and too low-cut. I often put in simple back-shoulder darts that make all the difference in the fit of my tops and dresses. My Mom, who just died, taught me how to do most of my own alterations, bless her. I miss her so much for everything, and when I want to make a new alteration, I’m stumped without my teacher! I know I’m 62, but you’re never ready to lose your one and only Mom!

... and, I just bought some fun jewelry for spring/summer. That is something I rarely do anymore, so I am really looking forward to wearing them!

This is very true, my daughter in law's mother and I are the same age. We're basically the same size, she looks 5-8 years older than me. It's her style or lack thereof, that drives the difference.

Lastly, one more thing that I noticed about myself, does go with your thoughts- that of going ‘softer’ as we grow older (I am soon 65). Black still is good for me (cool), but I think that my bright red no longer flatters me as it once did. I am growing out my dyed blonde hair to its natural white blonde/S&P color, so I have tones of LIGHT and COOL in my appearance still. My spring summer clothes and jewelry are also a mix for now, due to that, and not being able to completely change over yet.

Thanks for helping us keep updated and not old! I have a pearl necklace that is choker style, big pearls is that old? Should I toss it?

Loved the tips on a good bra. Ca you do something Nada in the future on the effects of hair colour change - going grey. love turquoise but does not have the same impact now with my grey hair. My hair originally was long and similar to your colour but just got tired of all the drama with colouring, styling etc.

Good video! ...Lol, regarding tunics, which I occasionally wear ( boho-romantic), I find that they can be worn over leggings with tall boots, or even have their bottoms tucked under to make them a long top. 🙂 I have even cut the bottoms off and changed them to boho tops. 😄

Great advice! One of my issues that I've had is trying to pick out purses. I'm never really sure if I'm choosing purses that are compatible with my outfits. Most of the time I chose a purse that's more functional instead of stylish. Looking for handbags is really hard for me.

I totally agree about keeping a wardrobe updated with favorite trends, I always find trends I love and that work for my age, 62, every season. As for tunics, they have been out of style for 30 years! I felt so much younger-looking when I purged them from my closet 20 years ago, but still so many mature women are wearing them, especially over leggings or capris. That’s about the most aging look possible. I think every woman should try waist-length and tucked-in tops, our bodies are better than we think and we are just putting excess fabric over the hips and tummy. Every woman my age has a little bit more in the tummy area than they did as a 20-year old, so what? Men do, too. Show that feminine shape!

Thank you Nada that's a really helpful video BUT you only refer to 30's 40's 50's 60's..... what about those of us who are 70 and over? It is so easy to feel invisible as it is.

I'm sorry Monica. This video applies to all of the decades over 40. I just felt like it was taking too long to list them all.

Thank you for your reply Nada. It’s great to have advice the applies to us all.

The biggest “aging style mistake” I see is wearing long, untucked tops, they just always look dumpy. Those wide, crew necklines they sell in mature stores are awful, too, but most of their items are.

I have to wear prescription glasses, I don’t qualify for contacts medically, but I need prescription sunglasses, too, nearly all the time when I’m outdoors in daylight. I’ve considered those photo-sensitive ones, but they have an unflattering dark tint when they adjust to indoor conditions, the last thing I want is more darkness around my, deep-set, dark-circled eyes! Keeping two pairs of updated glasses is expensive, but essential to stay stylish. Note: only Polaroid sunglasses protect the eyes, dark-tinted only ones actually increase sun damage by dilating the pupils and letting in more solar radiation than wearing none. I suggest choosing great fashion frames, then having Polaroid lenses put in, or just choosing a Polaroid pair to begin with. This is really important for desert, bright or snowy conditions, including city wear, with its millions of highly reflective surfaces. Also, anyone who does any public speaking, makes videos or is on TV should get non-reflective lenses, so people see your eyes, not reflections.

It is so frustrating to keep spending money on the wrong bra, but the right one is so important. There are sites now that will send you a few to try on so that might be worth a look.

Your shoes are way out of my price range. Beautiful but out of my budget range.

This is an older video, but if you check my catalogs, I have options for every price point. And in my own wardrobe I have shoes from everywhere, including Walmart as well as fancy ones. I’m usually just highlighting shoes in a video that illustrate some thing I’m talking about, but I will almost always have a wide range of prices. Thanks for the comment
