Back to the Future actually tries to have it both ways. In the first film, changing your past simply alters your future whereas in Back to the Future II it creates a divergent timeline as explained by Doc Brown. So it's possible that Marty simply left his original timeline and is now in a new one while his family in the odl one will never see him again. Even darker lol

If that were the case, neither the matchbook, the fax nor the pictures would have changed from Marty’s actions. When he burned the almanac, the matchbook changed from the casino name to Biff’s Auto Detailing, when Marty beat Mad Dog into shit, literally, the tombstone disappeared completely and when Marty went backwards instead of racing Needles, preventing the accident that happened in the future’s past, the printing on the fax vanished. Branching timelines don’t work like that. What I would love to know how exactly Marty could possibly have been sued because of that accident with the Rolls Royce? Marty might have been racing, but there is absolutely no way he could have been taken to court because the person driving the Rolls Royce would have been cited for ‘Failure to Yield’.

Another dark theory I heard. Marty actually dies many times, and as Doc has the time machine is always there at the right moment to save him, for example in the alternate bad 1985, Biff could have shot Marty, or Marty jumped to his death, Doc was then able to go back and stop this happening in the dimension we see, and maybe it took a few attempts to get the timing just right.

actually, Source Code's ending is even more darker. On top of the body-snatching, the system created a bunch of universes where the hero failed which means in each and all of those universes not only the train was destroyed and all its passengers killed, the city of Chicago also suffered a devastating follow-up attack with a dirty bomb. Not only that, but since the system still exists and was not destroyed completely, it means in a potential future crisis would lead to its use again and geometrical progression in creating new universes where carnage reigns supreme.

This is pure wishful thinking, but I always chose to interpret it as a case of the quantum computer resetting the same simulation over & over again and said simulation only became a real alternate universe once the attack was prevented (bit like virtual particles bubbling in & out of existence all the time, only sometimes becoming real via the Hawking radiation mechanism or other effects that force them to become real).

While not specifically an ending, The Infinity War saga really glossed over the effects of The Blip. They only briefly showed what happened when people returned in a quick scene of half of a high school marching band reappearing in the middle of a basketball game. How many people did Thanos snap out of existence who were at 35,000 feet on a plane ride, (sources estimate 500k at any given time), or were traveling at freeway speed in a car? How many children?
@josephhawthorne5097

The directors' answered that and said that Smart Hulk specified in his wish to return people in safe situations, so that's not an issue. But there are plenty of supply and personal interaction problems left from the time they missed and the changes in the world while people were gone.

@@ranwolf1240 Maybe, but if that was the case, the marching band members would not have reappeared in the midst of a basketball game colliding with the players either. Also, if they put everything back the way it was (I do recall Stark and Professor Hulk having a conversation to that effect) before the snap, with the reality stone, shouldn't it have literally reset everything the way it was?
@kurtkyre
@kurtkyre Жыл бұрын
@@josephhawthorne5097 Okay, fair enough... But, to me the directors addressing it after the fact is just patching a huge plot hole that they wrote themselves into.
@josephwest124
@josephwest124 Жыл бұрын
@@josephhawthorne5097 Unfortunately, that was NOT in the movie itself so, anything the directors might have said is completely irrelevant to what we SEE. As another example, what do you think happened with Peter just coming back to his high school even though 5 years had passed and EVERYONE in his same class (who hadn't been among the "blipped out of existence") had graduated and gone on with their lives? I also thought how interesting it was that Peter's best friend ALSO just happened to be among the "blipped" and just happened to come back to school as though nothing had happened. Did "Smart Hulk" just COMPLETELY reset every single thing in the universe so that absolutely NO TIME AT ALL had passed and EVERY SINGLE THING went back to how it was before? But, see that logic falls apart when you consider that Black Widow doesn't come back--even though she'd spent that 5 years leading the Avengers and, for some reason, her death can't be undone? Again. Lazy, half-assed storytelling on screen that has to be retconned or explained off-screen does NOT answer anything. If a DC film did that, it would be ripped apart by virtually everyone. An MCU film does it and the fanboys eagerly accept it. Even in the comics, when a retcon is needed, the writers and artists try to come up with some explanation that they SHOW in the work--not just "Oh, this happened so just accept it." In the 1970s, for instance, Magneto was literally turned back into a baby version of himself. Several years later, he's brought back in the comics and the X-Men are shocked and he explains what happened in an IN-STORY FLASHBACK. It's not left to the fans to figure out what happened or just deal with a suddenly-restored-to-full-vitality Magneto. The creative team SHOWED US what happened. GOOD storytellers do that. Bad storytellers come up with excuses because THEY DIDN'T THINK THINGS THROUGH.

While Ewoks eating storm troopers is not cannibalism they would have cooked the Storm Troopers as part of a celebration feast, a feast our heroes would have been invited to. The Princess Bride - Inigo Montoya almost certainly died of his wounds. Fight Club - If by blowing up those buildings they indeed wiped out everyone’s credit debts, they will have effectively destroyed the United States economy by defaulting on millions of loans and plunged the value of the dollar, taking with it much of the world’s economy. It will cause a financial meltdown worse than the Great Depression. Pretty much any movie where humans fight off an alien invasion will have loss of leadership/governments, losses of huge population centers and what happens when humans get control of advanced alien technology.

RE: Batteries Not Included - Actually, they (Mason, in particular) were specifically trying to get (and were presumably ultimately granted) historic building/landmark status at the beginning of the movie. This comes with a NUMBER of perks (depending on your region, of course), and two among them would be rent control status and tax credits (or even outright tax freezes). The Rileys wouldn't have to raise rent (and likely COULDN'T), their tenants could stay, and they could undoubtedly sign new tenants to the newly refurbished vacant apartments in the building. Plus, historic building status also comes with various grants and trusts to keep the building in good condition and keep the owners fiscally viable, and with their diner shown to be a popular place to eat for all the new businesses in the area, they (or whomever takes over when they pass on, most likely Mason & Marisa) would be in good financial shape even long-term. And while yes, the higher prices in the area would increase basic cost of living for the tenants, the greater job opportunities would increase the tenants' earning potential (plus, if they end up working at the diner, they could charge higher prices given the higher earning clientele, thus making the diner a very lucrative business), so really, even with the gentrified area (which, I will be clear, is a HORRID process, and I do not support it IRL), the protagonists of the film would ultimately do just fine, no dark ending in sight. Unless of course it did NOT get declared a historic building, then you're right, big problems ahead.

At the end of John Carpenter's the Thing Macready is seemingly the final one left alive. He successfully got the entire complex burning and is watching it burn when we see Childs come out of the darkness. Macready rightly points out that neither one of them is in a position to do anything if the other is the thing, but as Macready and Childs talk you notice that Macready's breath is still visible, while Childs breath is not. What happens next will take a while. As Spring arrives in October or November (this is the Southern hemisphere) the Norwegians and Americans will finally discover why contact was lost in their installations. They will find that something got into the Norwegian installation and utterly destroyed it, then it somehow got into the American installation as well. The dead, including Macready and Childs, who are both found outside the camp, frozen solid would be collected and transported back to civilization, very likely still frozen solid. There would be no reason to thaw out the bodies before an autopsy could be performed and lots of reasons to keep them frozen. Once they thaw out Childs, 3 years later, (27000 hours) all life on Earth has been assimilated. All of that was for nothing.
@TheRealNormanBates
@TheRealNormanBates Жыл бұрын
You can barely see Childs breath, but he _is_ the Thing. When Childs first shows up, Mac is startled and scared. As they converse, you can see Mac's face and he has a look like "let's see what we shall see" and tests Childs by giving him the whiskey bottle. Some have said that it has gasoline in it, but it doesn't even have to be that. Being that Blair told everyone that even _one cell_ could assimilate them and Fuchs told Mac that everyone should eat out of cans, Childs taking a swig without even wiping the top told Mac everything he needed to know. In fact, you can see that on Mac's face after Childs takes the drink. Childs has no fear of being infected by Mac because he already is. Now I believe that Childs and MacReady (and all other bodies) would be autopsied at McMurdo Station, so there is still the chance at containment.

In BTTF, OG Marty returns to an alternate timeline, basically replacing the "Marty" of that timeline with the sad sack version of Marty. The Marty from THAT timeline was probably a much happier person. Its probably why the family is taken aback by OG Marty in their limited interactions, right before Doc takes OG Marty and the girlfriend to the alternate timeline future. So the changes aren't experienced for very long, as OG Marty would have zero memory of the alternate timeline up to that point anyway. Not one person who time travels in the entire trilogy has dual memories or has their old memories replaced by new timeline memories. The people who "fade back in over time" would retain their memories in that timeline and/or people who just continued to live in a timeline that Marty/Doc/Biff altered would retain their memories because for them, nothing has "changed."

The Rise of Skywalker's ending has been largely misinterpreted by fans, I think. When the old lady asks "Rey who?" the viewer's blood should run cold when she answers with the Skywalker name. This is the signal that Emperor Palpatine finally got his "Young Skywalker" body to possess. He got her to do what Vader and Luke couldn't or wouldn't do for him: _"Good... I can feel your anger. I am defenseless. Take your weapon! Strike me down with all your hatred, and your journey towards the dark side will be complete!"_ Rey did exactly what the Emperor wanted. With the last of the Jedi Order and even their lightsabers buried, there's no one left to keep Rey sane with all that power. Her pointy-toothed vision of herself is on the verge of happening when she walks off into the desert at the end of the Star Wars saga.

Sounds like EXTREMELY plausible. There is Jedi, Sith and Balance. Misguided as it is, it's logical for Jedi(Blue) and Sith(Red) to believe that balance to the Force can be brought only by annihilating the other side. But that balance wouldn't be balance. In truth it would just be staleness and corrruption. Green like rot. Absolute power CAN corrupt absolutelly. Also, “Only a Sith deals in absolutes”. It's right there in the movie. The trick for balance is to recognise that both sides exist, but keep them in check the most perfect way, take what is beneficial of each and overcome the disruptuptive and soul corrupting elements. This is seemingly a very hard thing to do, but balance is, by definition, a fragile thing. It takes very little to tip the scales and lean to either side. That is the reason where the only real answer to how balance can be attained is the quest for total unity.

The Iron Giant is the darkest of them all. The Giant is a planetary destruction/conquest robot which is friendly to us due to damage to its brain (signified by a dent), and they're unstoppable because they can re-assemble after any amount of damage. At the end of the movie the giant saves the town of Rockwell but is destroyed by the nuclear weapon that he intercepted. Months later, we see a screw being drawn to Iceland where the rest of the giant is re-assembling itself. It's reasonable to believe that the damage to the giant's head will also be repaired, now that he was blown apart by a nuke. Which means he's going to re-awaken in conquest/destruction mode. And not even a nuclear weapon will stop him. So, earth is doomed.

Not really a dark ending, but a possible interesting outcome. In the Terminator universe we know that Kyle Reece was born around the year 2000. Then as an adult he travelled back in time to the year 1984, where he fathered John Conor. John Conor would be born in late 1984 or early 1985, making him about 15 or 16 years older than his father. It is not at all unusual for a boy of 15 or 16 to be sexually active, so it's possible that John Connor could be the father of Kyle Reece, making John his own grandfather.

I still can’t fathom the reason George McFly would EVER allow Biff to be anywhere near Lorraine, considering the fact that he literally tried to r*pe her in high school. Not only does he let him come around, he also has a somewhat jokey relationship with him. The way Biff just walks into their house (after picking up their mail without being asked) shows that it’s not an abnormal occurrence for him to be in there. George might be more assertive after punching Biff, but that doesn’t mean he’s scared of Lorraine and would never try it again. George can’t be around her 24/7.

I don't think Biff would be the same after the event. Sure it would have been somewhat traumatizing for Lorraine, but imagine how different Biff's life would have been afterwards. He went from the tough guy that nobody could touch and everyone was scared of, to being the guy that got knocked out by one of the meekest, nerdiest guys in the school. His reputation would have been destroyed. No more gang following him, no more being a bully, he would have went from feared overlord to shunned outcast overnight. It likely destroyed any confidence he had, the kind of confidence one would need to, say, try to convince a woman she really wanted you even after saying no and then trying to force the issue? Honestly, I've seen this kind of thing happen in real life. A bully gets his ass beat by someone nobody expected it from and they go from King Badass to Little Bitch overnight. I just wish it could have been me and the first string quarterback my Sophomore year of high school... that would've been nice. Point being though, Biff was probably rendered harmless, all of his bravado blown away like fog in a hurricane.

How the hell would it be a nighmare for Marty if the memories going away are bad ones since things changed for the best. Even if they are slowly changed they will be changed for better ones. Marty's photo existed but they aren't of his siblings. the past was changed while in transit further (by Doc presumably-he probably helped the kid edit his scifi work, provided a starting fund and other things to repay his debt). BUT the one thing that did not cahange? Marty being friends with the scientist up the block. Presumably due to doc's involement with his parents now instead of being a random side job. but. Doc immediately plucks marty out and changes things again by going to the future. Altering the present again, in a way that sets up his marty. As opposed to the current timeline marty. Doc plucks his marty out of the time very quickly so they don't acciedntly run into each other. Presumably having sent that marty back in time hoping that is a functional paradox loop and marty becmes his marty just fine.

Any Roland Emmerich movie where the world is destroyed. (Independence Day, 2012, The Day After Tomorrow, Moonfall.) Sure the heroes survive and save the day, but what about the aftermath and the possibly horrifying Post Apocalyptic world that awaits them? The world can't be rebuilt as easily or quickly as that turd Independence Day Resurgence suggests. If you think really hard about any of these films, a lot of the endings range from Bittersweet to potentially horrifying.

The thing that I always thought was cool about Source Code, is that now, there is a reality where Colter is in Sean Fentris' body but he is also back at the Source Code facility. It would be awesome if there was a sequel and Colter can't do it alone so Goodwin let's him know that he is already in this timeline and they reach out to Sean/Colter for help. If they save the day, it creates a new branch timeline where now there are 2 Colter's in 2 different bodies with a Colter back at the Source Code lab.... it just goes on and on...

Kingsman ending bothered me because they had that one scene where Harry has all those front page newspapers hanging on his wall. They’re all inconsequential stories and Harry points out all the things he stopped and that’s why the newspaper has a stupid story on the front page. Nothing happened. I thought that was what the ending should have been. Eggsy hanging up a newspaper with a mundane story because he stopped Valentine before anything happened.

One of the more famous ones is The Wizard of Oz, where all the horrible real-world problems are still present when Dorothy wakes, including a woman hell-bent on killing Toto. The "it was all a dying dream" theory has also been applied to Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, with the premise being he's dying slowly inside the refrigerator. The release of a next movie shoots down the theory in some people's eyes, but the whole movie was so bonkers that it seemed plausible for a while.

So I just want to put this out there. Because I'm actually currently in the middle of rewatching all 4 of those original Batman movies. And I have always felt like this. But now as an adult rewatching them all back-to-back. I can say with certainty that all of the people who give the third and fourth movies s*** and say that they are terrible because they're corny. Have obviously actually never watched the first 2 movies. Because they are just as corny, Campy and ridiculous as the other 2. I mean, Christopher Walken is literally dressed like f****** beetlejuice for the second movie. You're gonna tell me that's not ridiculous. Or the fact that in the first movie, the joker just randomly turns his entire squad of goons into a dancing parade, just so they can play a Prince song. But somehow the Joel shumaker ones are so much worse to people. And I just think it's because they have not watched those first 2 in a while. Or they have a nostalgia bias towards those 2.

There was a story arc in Doctor Who where the Doctor's companion (Amelia (Amy Pond) had a childhood best friend who was named "Melody" Amy gets married to her childhood sweetheart and they spend their honeymoon on the TARDIS. They actually connived a child on the TARDIS and this affected the child with the ability to regenerate when she dies. After the child is born the baby is taken away by a group of people who intend to use the child to kill the Doctor. The child is taken back in time to when Amy was about the same age as her daughter. Marty McFly's fate isn't that bad. I mean, nobody can perfectly recall every detail of their whole life all at once in an instant, right? So while there is some initial shock, it should come to him gradually that what he forgot, then remembered, is lining up with the new timeline. Plus, he's still definitely going to remember time traveling. So it's kind of like how in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind where they still had traces of what they erased, only instead of haunting him, they'll remind him that, actually, no, he's not crazy. Whatever he's remembering either was once, or was now.
@raginggamer7207

In the context and world of BTTF, no one who time travels has memories of the new timelines they inhabit. They just go into those timelines with their old memories and just wing it. They don't gradually get those new timeline memories. Its not even sort of like ESotSM. In the entire trilogy NO ONE makes any reference to having new timeline memories ontop of or replacing their original timeline memories.

In the movie "Scooged," it seemingly has a happy ending, but since Bill Murray's character had Goldwaith's character holding hostages at the end of a shotgun while he gave his transformative speech, wouldn't both of those characters be arrested right after the movie ends, both having to face some pretty serious charges?

There are so many endings like this too. Think West Side Story, likely most of the Jets will go to jail for sexual assault on Anita or all being complicit in the deaths of Riff, Bernardo and Tony. Not to mention that the area they all lived in was torn down and gentrified shortly after the film which would've forced them all into even worse slums. Not to mention that Maria was obviously traumatized by the whole incident and in that era, psychiatric help wasn't readily available and she would've suffered irreparable PTSD from the events of the film.

Source code, that human being he took over was someone who actually died though. So there's no real effect. In every other parallel timeline created, he's dead. In the one that worked, he still died but his body is inhabited by the main guy. But the guy still would be dead in that timeline and it's an "easy" explanation to his family. In order to save everyone else there he had to be sacrificed, but since in every other timeline the guy and everyone else died, it is easier to accept his loss when they are given the reason for it and knowing that if the guy didn't overtake his body that he'd have died anyway. Granted I haven't seen the movie in years.

I think like Source Code...Marty taking over the body of himself in an alt timeline is pretty bleak for the Alt timeline Marty. Alt timeline Marty had a life and now that consciousness has been replaced by a the original Marty. Same as Xmen Days of Futures Past. Wolverine takes over the body of his younger self, changes the past then takes over the body of his future self. Destroying the consciousness that inhabited it originally.

I have always thought George Clooney was a good Batman. His Bruce Wayne is where he failed. He looked uncomfortable in a suit. Enough about that. The movie Lady Hawk had a darker ending than most people realize. Right at the end Mathew Brodrick's character told the monk he would see him in heaven even if he had to pick the lock of the pearly gates. Which shows they knew they were going to die. In those days what would be the penalty for murdering a Bishop. Accusing a Bishop of being a servant of Satan would be enough to have you burned at the stake. Being able to change into a bird and being able to tame a wild wolf. Would mean she is a witch. The four heroes of the movie would be executed in very painful ways. From the church.
