I started taking a caffeine pill in the morning while I was sick with covid because the coffee was upsetting my stomach but I get a migraine without it. The effect is so much cleaner and calmer feeling than coffee, now I don't even like coffee very much anymore
@Count9903 ай бұрын
I did something similar for a while because I got the same effect as you. It felt simpler, awake but without the digestive issues that coffee can cause. Overall it felt easier on my body. However after about a year of that consistently (between 100 mg on slow days to 300 on days I needed the extra help, not always at once) I started to feel this really deep sense of innate fatigue. It felt like I was awake but that my body had nothing left. Like I had burnt through a candle and was running on fumes. It is very difficult to describe in words but a metaphor I find myself using again and again is ‘it felt like my nerves were fried’ because it’s the closest I can approximate to the feeling. It was not a restful fatigue. After going no caffeine for a while I ended up switching back to coffee and this feeling has not returned no matter how much I drink. I think something about consuming it over a longer period of time (~15 minutes bs 10 seconds) and starting the digestive system makes the caffeine itself be gentler to my body. I also think that some other compounds in coffee may also be beneficial for this phenomenon. I much prefer coffee now even though it is less convenient.

Of course drinking that much coffee will have negative effects. Any good thing in excess has terrible health consequences. That goes for all healthy foods and drinks. 1-2 coffees per day shouldn't create any problem for most. Miserable quality coffee (Starbucks and others) are truly bad, not because of coffee itself. Black coffee is good, not all those addons. And because coffee is dehydrating, is very important to drink more water. But overdoing it, without enough water - of course will be bad, just like any good thing in excess.

Cutting it out of my life has balanced and improved my health and existence in so many ways, more than any other lifestyle intervention I've ever tried over decades of life. And I know I'm not alone based on the anecdotes of tons of other people. Cutting caffeine has: Healed my gut Healed mood issues Healed fatigue Healed my sleep (now THIS heals the brain, nightly) Vastly improved cognition Vastly improved energy We see studies that examine the effects of caffeine on very isolated dimensions of our biology, but I've yet to see a study that could assert that caffeine is good for the whole person and their being. I would encourage anyone who is currently dependent on caffeine to try cutting it for 6 months and see how it feels. @@danielscarbrough4363 Spot on. I'm an avid espresso drinker and coffee to me is more than just a morning pick me up. So I constantly research a lot about it. You should definitely limit consumption of instant coffee, particularly if it's decaf. I buy both caffinated and decaf beans from my local roaster. If you like decaf, always look for swiss water process decaf beans. Swiss water processing is the most natural when it comes to decaf. If you don't want to buy an espresso machine, go for a moka pot, french press, or just a pourover. The barrier to entry is very low.

How you brew your coffee also makes a huge difference. Drip coffee vs. French press vs. Espresso based coffee. Let your tastebuds decide for you. For me it's Espresso (Americano, Latte) all the way. French press is the worst.

Most of the studies were coffee, but the ones that tried a lot of caffeine in one session usually used a supplement, for example “dose of 3 mg/kg anhydrous caffeine in powder form” I didn’t check if any of them used tea, cola, etc. The tea studies I saw were typically talking more about the other stuff in the tea, since most teas have less than half the caffeine of even a dark roast coffee.

Please mind that the study is in Spain , and 5pm is soon for our daily activity , as our time aligns with central EU instead of been the same as in the UK. I enjoy your videos Thomas. I've always been a health nut. There are some interesting studies about how extroverted and introverted people react differently to caffeine. I read one of these studies way back in the 80's, which said that caffeine definitely helps extroverts with improvement in mental tasks, but hinders introverts. I read another study recently that says caffeine doesn't hinder introverts, but introverts are more sensitive to caffeine. This seems true to me. I've always considered myself an introvert (although I'm a musician) and just a little bit of caffeine wakes me up. One cup of green tea or black tea is enough caffeine for me. You are right about the supposed addictive nature of caffeine. I would drink too much caffeine sometimes to help me stay awake for my job. I didn't get addicted to caffeine when I consumed more, but the headaches and dizziness would be worse when I stopped caffeine consumption after these heavy consumption periods.

I think a lot of these studies like the one about more fat burning in afternoon and lowering heart disease are connected to the fact that coffee leads to people doing more exercise whether that’s walking more or doing more intense workouts versus when they workout without caffeine, etc. Overall I think coffee can be a great asset to give a person that energy boost but it’s still best to drink it before noon and reduce weekly consumption if you have acid reflux.

I thought high cortisol will use glucose for energy. High cortisol actually increases weight. Cortisol stimulates your fat and carbohydrate metabolism, creating a surge of energy in your body. While this process is essential for survival situations, it also increases your appetite. Additionally, elevated cortisol levels can cause cravings for sweet, fatty and salty foods.
@waynesanders14064 ай бұрын
Withdrawal symptoms are relative to how much you take in consistently. Someone getting 50mg daily vs 400, the 400 is going to have a bad series of days when they quit cold turkey. That used to be me, and I still remember the first time I quit caffeine at age 14 25 years ago. I had no idea what was going on, I had a severe migraine. I grew up drinking Dr Pepper like it was water starting around age 10. I had 3-4 a day sometimes more. Now I get about 150 a day, but I'm very sensitive to it now. I've quite caffeine for months before and I can tell you I never bounced back to "normal". If you drink too much for too long your adrenal-endocrin response will suffer, just like if you take copious amounts of test for too long you will shut it down to a lower level for good.
