I enjoy getting my refreshed lessons on your channel. I'm now in my 50's and believe it's important to not forget all that I've learned. Having said that, I wrote out the solution to the problem differently. I felt my way was easier; for me, at least. (w + 1) = 50/.08 (w + 1) = 625 w = 625 - 1 w = 624

once written as an equation the problem becomes clear... so write the equation: 8%×(W+1) = 50 (W+1)=50/8% W+1 = 50/0.08 = 625 W = 624 Verify 8%×(W+1) = 50 8%(624+1) =? 50 0.08(625) =? 50 50 =❤ 50✔️

I did the same thing - TOTAL divided by percent (decimal equivalent) = the quotient, then minus 1. It doesn't need to take 14+ minutes to explain.

Greetings. The answer is W=624. We determine the value of W by saying that 8(W+1)/100=50, and 8W+8=5,000, 8W=5,000-8, 8W=4,992, W=4,992/8=624.

I had this in about 15 seconds. 50÷0.08 equals 625. 625 - one equals 624. Easy Peezy.

The easiest way to solve this problem is to think of the equation Rate x Base =Product or RxB=P. So we have 0.08 {Rate} times (w+1) [Base] equals 50 [Product]. Using the distributive law we have 0.08w+0.08=50. Subtract the 0.08 from both sides we get 0.08w=49.92. Divide both sides by 0.08, and remember when dividing decimals using long division we have to move the decimal two places to the right in this particular case so that we have 4992 divided 8 which will give us 624.

Doing it the hard way (well, not that hard actually): 8/100 times "x" = 50 (to simplify (w + 1) I replace it by the value "x") To find "x" I divide 50 by 8/100 and I get 625 By then I know that "x" = 625 "x" being (w +1 ) in fact I think I can do the maths from there. Answer: w = 624. But I'm OK with your method also which is more "'official" I guess.

Why did you solve it that way? It is simpler to divide both sides by 0.08 at the start, that gives w + 1 = 625, then subtract 1 from both sides.

Mr sir, please don't assume that many will get it wrong. Never think negatively. I would say many will get it right. I don't know much maths but I do know that 2+2÷2 is 3 and not 2. Have a great day

super easy I would expect anyone in high school to be able to solve. edit: Wow I see people love to write 80% as .08 instead of 8/100. I find 8/100 is easier to work with than .08 especially in the step 50/80%. It is easier to say 50 * 100/8. Which gives you 5000/8 Than just divide out 50/8 is 6 with a left over of 2 bring down the second zero it is 20/8 which is a 2 with a left over of 4 bring down the last 0 you got 40/8 which is 5 with no left over. Therefore 5000/8 is 625. Super simple for me, but maybe it just shows how I learned.

Wow I found it much simpler to avoid decimals! 8% is 8/100 which reduces to 2/25 so w + 1 = 50 x (25/2) and w = 625 -1!

In 4th grade we learned to go to 100% via 1%. 1% is 50/8, then 100% is ×100. So it is 50/8×100. w=50/8×100-1.

69 y.o. Did it in my head. Mechanical engineer who took a lot of calculus and these problems seem simple to me. Partial, non-linear differential equations were another kettle of fish however.

I did not listen to the fourteen minutes explanation. The logic is simple. Since 8% = 50, 100% = 625 w + 1 = 625 w= 625 - 1 w = 624.
