My Ghost Whisperer, Matador Freerain 22 and Packtowls. I've had Several of the Bean Stowaway, but I don't find them compact or super easy to pack away. I used it for EDC for a couple of years. Great lightweight pack! I really need a Rain Jacket, will check out the RAB!

My Uniqlo packable hooded down jacket. Turns into a great lumbar pillow on the plane and works great as a warm layer off the plane.

I really like the SeatToSummit Shopping bag. I have a slightly older version that has a zipper on top and closes*. I also like their Poncho (instead of a rain jacket) as it also covers the backpack and can be worn over pretty much everything. *Edit: it also has one wide strap.

My Bernardo packable jacket because it also has backpack straps so you can carry it hands free if you get too warm

I always add a few plastic grocery bags to my luggage when I go on a trip. They're cheap, relatively strong, and somewhat waterproof too. I use them for extra items, dirty clothing and shoes, trash, etc. A bag from a local shop is also nice to have for more inconspicuous carry if you have don't want to be as "touristy" looking. They're great to keep in a diaper bag too. You never know when the rugrat's gonna have an accident.

This is a niche category I love very much lol. My travel and packable items are: Osprey UL dry stuff sack (it’s a backpack), the north face first dawn rain jacket (6oz), the north face flyweight duffel for souvenirs or overflow, and I like to use the Patagonia nano puff over down just in case it rains or if I need to wash it without having to be as delicate with it.

Eddie Bauer also has some great packable gear. I just picked up a packable rain coat and down jacket. They have some packable bags too but I didn’t check those out.

Highly recommend the Outdoor Vitals Vario jacket as a packable jacket. water resistant, super warm and comfy, and just over $200 make it a good value compared to some other products. The material isn't super glossy either, and there's not a bunch of stitch lines so IMO it looks a lot better too. Super happy with it

I like the Mystery Ranch 19L In and Out (they also have a 22L version for even more carrying goodness) because it is a solid mix of durability, carrying capacity, and packability. I used it to run around Chicago in the wintertime and while I would have liked a tad more padding for my 15" Macbook Pro laptop, that's easily solved with a padded sleeve.

It's that expensive, because of the small size it packs down to. You always pay more for ultralight / smaller sizes. There are a lot of more affordable options - but I'd try out one that fits you and your uses. I have a Vaude one that's good for biking also, with a big hood.

I like my North Face Packable Flyweight backpack(17l) . It has a quite big mesh at the front, where you can put a jacket or other outerwear without consuming space inside of a backpack, and it packs smaller than shown LLBean backpack

Osprey Ultralight stuff pack is WAY smaller than the LLBean (or Eddie Bauer) version. Also, the Outdoor Research Radar Cap is more packable than the one you tested.

I would have included the Aer Go bag 2. I just got one and while it doesn’t compress into a pocket, it is packable as a flat bag on top of your other gear in your travel bag. It is an impressive bag with lots of features. Highly recommend. Also, how much warmer generally speaking do you consider the ghost whisper jacket compared to a Patagonia nano puff? Big difference? Negligible?

Love packable gear - the Wandrd Veer backpack and the Detour sling with the matching inflatable camera cube get a lot of use from me. The former if i am travelling without another daypack as the inflatable frame really helps I find and the latter as a small easy option for exploring.

I do not recommend a soft shell like that. Soft shell give you minor protection against raining. Better get a windproof jacket, like Arc'teryx Squamish, and then take with you a hard shell in gorotex. Also the packable bag is unusable. I had one and it's killing your shoulder.

@@PackHacker it’s great till around 3 degrees with a T-shirt. If I layer it with a shell it is warm till around -2. Obviously not the warmest, but it’s so easily packable that with a layered system provides amazing value.

7:51 packtowl must change the hanging loop to the middle, it's so stupid to have it in the corner that I can't find a good reason why the designer did that. Ugh all I see is people raving about the Mountain Hardwear. I am usually a die hard for them & was too impatient for my local shop to have them in so I bought the Patagonia Down Sweater. I hate it. My own fault. But wow the quality is seriously terrible on the Patagonia. I’ve got a 22 year old Mountain Hardwear synthetic fill jacket & it’s finally seeing it’s end of time. Patagonia has lost its touch. Idk if the Patagonia will even last 2 years.
