On day 48 I said now he is truly night hiking and getting an early start. In that heat I think night hiking is the way to go. I love night hiking. I was wondering what your start date and what was your date you got back on trial? It seems if you start early the desert is not as bad, but the mountain snow could be an issue. I was thinking if I could get an early start date, I could finish the desert and then head home for a month to keep my wife happy and let the snow melt a bit. Watching your video planted that idea in my head. I like the new tent, it's the same one I own. Almost all my gear is Zpacks. I have been watching Jupiter Hikes and he has gotten me to thinking of taking the UL thing to super UL and to try using a tarp and even a lighter pack. I will give it a try this summer and see how it goes. I do love my Duplex and I have my base weight down to eight pounds. Take care

Be sure and test it out. There’s a fine line between ultra lightweight and crazy lightweight.

@@TheHikingRev That is for sure. I would test the tarp in my yard first during a big rainstorm and then try it on the Long Trail. There are lots of shelters on the LT I could sleep in if things went bad. How are you liking your Nero? I too have the Arc Blast but was thinking of trying the Nero. Take care

My back started bothering me so I had to lighten my set up. The Zpacks tent weighed half of what the Big Agnes tent did. Big Agnes Fly Creek HV UL2 had a body, rain fly, footprint and poles. The Zpacks tent was a single wall tent that used my trekking poles for tent poles.

My wife used to get me to take my pack and T-shirt off even when we were doing two nighters. She'd soak that shirt and she said she could see the stress evaporate off my face. Bless her. My pack probably weighed 40lbs. I'd be heaving at temps above '95ºF. That's 35ºC for us Cannucks.

Hey Rev,do you happen to recall if there is a trail head access point between Tehachapi Pass and Walker Pass?I wanted to divide it up and split it into day hikes.Any thoughts?

Hey Sarah. Yes, I remember there being an access point/trail head that was accessible by a road. There was a water cache there that someone provided so there had to be accessibility but I can’t remember the name. Sorry. ☹️

Bob PCT 2020 I got a ZPacks Duplex tent. I love it. Very easy to set up and plenty of room inside...and very ultralight.

I have a question for you. You're closer to my age than are the twentysomethings that seem to make up most of the hiking crowd. What was the social scene like for you, wise old man that you are?

I don’t know about “wise” but I sure fit the other description...”old.” 😂 Most of the “youngster,” I felt, looked to me as a dad or grandpa figure. When I had my big bushy beard I had some think I was Santa Claus. Seriously...They were very respectful and inclusive. I never felt like I was treated like an invalid or had escaped from a nursing home. A lot of them were inquisitive and asked me a lot of questions about camping/backpacking and life in general. All-in-all, the twenty somethings treated me like one of them (even though I have 42 year old and 40 year old sons and a 30 year old daughter and 7 grandkids).
