Except ball boxes are behind you, on mats the tees are on the wrong side so you have to flip the mat, and half the time the cubes point slightly right which is very strange for lefties

Well done Golf Monthly! The biggest issue is the lack of choice available to us lefties. This then spills over into the secondhand market where we can end up paying 40%-60% more for a club than right handlers!

My two additions as a fellow lefty are: Pulling the golf cart up and parking it for a right handed shot. I frequently have to ask the driver to move the cart. Most golf instructional books are written from a right handed perspective. I've spent years translating instructions into language for a lefty.

On the ranges here in the US, the mats are always positioned for righties. So you are constantly sliding the mats over to the left side. They are often heavy and dirty and more so after a rain or washing down. When riding in a cart, unless you are driving, your partner invariably positions the cart on the wrong side so you have to remind them to move the cart to the opposite side. And I agree wholeheartedly that they position tee markers only thinking of the impact for a righty. And let's not forget every training video and golf magazine. When they say right hand, you have to think left, When they say left you have to think right. Hand positions, feet positions, shoulder turns, etc. All frustrating annoyances. However, having golfed for 50+ years, I can state unequivocally that the choices in equipment are so much better. When I started I had one choice for clubs from one maker, at least in stock affordable sets. And only one left-handed pro to follow, Bob Charles.

I love being left handed . At our local club last Saturday we had a group of four and three of us were lefty's. I'm 62 now and have been playing since I was 15 . I did get down to 5 briefly but played of 5-9 handicap for a big percentage of time ..Shot about eight under 70 rounds with a best of 66 and many hundreds of sub 80 rounds and being a lefty was never a real problem ..I was the only left hander in our Div 3 pennant team most of the time though . I haven't played for about the last 9 years but have re started again in 2022...Still using the old clubs . King Irons including a 2 iron to standard loft wedge and sand iron , no hybrids just a Nicklaus 10.5 Driver , Nicklaus 3 metal , and a 7 metal ... That said a good friend also a lefty was telling me how hard it was for him to get a bag of new gear organised so I totally agree with you on that point especially... I'm now losing a lot of distance to lots of right handed players too...never mind , just loving playing again ...

Back in the 90s, it was a pain to get youth clubs for me...mom always had to special order...finding used clubs took all weekend of going to garage sales and flea markets. But such is life for a lefty...

I'm 39 and my childhood was filled with my mom having to take me to 6 diff stores looking for a left handed mit or left handed hockey stick.. Shit even when I was just recently looking for a golf glove.. Wal mart had a thousand lefts and no rights. Now between all the shifts at my work there like 30 of us.. No lie.. Brilliant... and about time! Wrong side of the player on the tee (tick), no equipment in pro shop (tick), lack of gloves (double tick), given a right-handed driver to try (tick). We don't have the trouble of winter mats here in Australia, but I find a similar problem with mats in the training nets... not only are the footmarks difficult to hit out of, but the rubber tees are always (ALWAYS!) on the wrong side... sigh :/ (But in a twist, it's me who compares himself to Phil's short game! :)

I'm a left-handed woman, finding left-handed women's clubs is virtually impossible! I went to a Top Golf with friends and the mats were completely worn down from all the feet. I almost asked for a new mat, I was having so much difficulty.

Great video! I've actually offered my new Epic driver to my right-handed partners, and it was a hoot watching them trying to hit it. Fortunately, I live in SoCal (close to Callaway and Taylor Made), so lefty clubs are often in stock for us. I love your bit about having your right-handed partners not knowing where to stand. It's so true and happened again to me today on the course. And, like you said, my short game and Phil's are not on the same par. Gloves is another big issue, and I'm always ending up ordering online. (Under Armour always seems to have them.) Thanks again and keep up the great content.

This fellow lefty wishes he had researched left handed golf bags. After investing in a stand bag online, I realized upon it's arrival that I have always carried my bag on my left shoulder. This becomes awkward when two shoulder straps and a back pad are set up for right handed users. I do my best to conform but old habits die hard and I find myself routinely doing laps around my bag to pick it up. No matter how ridiculous I undoubtedly look, I love my setup so a little extra time admiring my clubs is welcomed and may even appease the Golf Gods... eventually.

Excellent video. Equipment issues are the biggest problem. Unless I drive 100 miles to specialist left hand golf retailers very little choice. As for fitting my pro shop said that there are not enough lefties to stock selection. Custom fitting is relying on Titleist, Ping etc to have demo day in which case you are very much tied to the manufacturer. WE NEED MORE CHOICE!!

I would say wedge selection, I have only ever seen in stock at the stores or even online 52, 56, and 60 degree wedges, even if a company says they have more selections, I have never seen them. With modern lofts, gapping with wedges can be a huge issue.

Course set up’s are normally for right handed people. But I had a local course with 2 hard dog leg lefts. Loved those holes. Could tee it up and smash it. Even with a slice it’s heading the right way.

The narrow equipment choice is a definite frustration, I was custom fitted for my Orkas but not much choice. The advantage my right hand partners tell me is that golf courses are designed to be difficult for right hand not lefty's. Not sure about that one.🤔

As a lefty myself, I experience a number of the issues that you have brought up. Since the pandemic started, I have found that golf shops have less selection of putters. Even more so than prior to the pandemic.

I agree… Went to Dicks sporting goods today. To check out some irons. They had 1 set… Callaway epics. That’s it. They used to have 4-5 sets.🤷‍♂️👍

This unfortunately has always been a problem for lefty’s. I was told that the putter that I ordered during boxing week would be in on February 22nd. Still waiting. I’m now looking at getting the Odyssey 11. I have seen a few right handed putters come in but sadly no left handed putters. Odyssey may lose my business very soon.

Great video. But to be clear Phil Mickelson is not left handed. Just uses left handed golf clubs. Being a right handed player with left handed club is advantageous in some ways. Jordan spieth is the opposite, he’s left handed and uses right handed gear. Both have great short game. And control on full swing with the main lever of the the swing in their more dexterous dominant arm.

I think others have mentioned it in previous comments, but on the range, it's hard to get a good spot for a lefty. In Japan they often have slots with mats on both sides, but only a few. I'm actually right-handed in everything using a racket. But in hockey, I shot on my left side, so it felt more natural to hit a golf ball from my left. The first club I tried was of course a right-handed club since I'm right-handed. But I held it with my right hand on the top and the left under. It looked ridiculous, but felt 'right'.😁

Yes. I don’t often slice, but one of my local course has all of the danger on the left side of the fairway. OOB, water, etc. Whereas the right handers’ slice will invariably find another fairway.

The fact that manufacturers often don't produce certain clubs like the 2-iron, 3-iron, or equivalent hybrids for left-handed golfers in most sets is quite frankly absurd. What's more frustrating is the likelihood of losing a club. If I accidentally leave a club near the green, there's a 50/50 chance I'll see it again if the group behind me is trailing by more than 15 minutes. It seems right-handed players often view left-handed clubs as fair game, thinking they might come in handy during a round. You'd be surprised how many times I've had to chase down players to their cars because they "accidentally" failed to return a club at the clubhouse after completing their 18 holes. It's always the same excuse: "Sorry, mate. I didn't realize I had it." (Between us, that's usually not true.) I've had friends play with some of these golfers who've openly expressed delight at finding an old left-handed club.

Of all of these, finding decent gloves is the worst. My local golf superstore has two full aisles of gloves for the left hand, and 1/8 of an aisle for gloves for the right hand; and most of them are cheap quality.

I get my gloves from Vice; they make a very high quality glove (equal to the very nice Titleist players glove) for a *lot* less. So basically you're saying that the biggest problem faced by lefties is ... being a lefty. Every single one of these was a variation of the theme of not being able to get or try kit, or that your (gasp) right-handed playing partners are forgetful or unsympathetic douchebags. The _only_ ones that were valid here are the general difficulty getting and trying equipment (though that is only one problem, not the three or four that you made it out to be) and the one about finding a clean lie on a winter mat - to be fair I hadn't thought of that. All the other things you mentioned are equally faced by all golfers.

I think the tree and the tee box points are irrelevant. I have had the ball up against a tree before where a left handed person would have had a perfect shot. Just all depends where the ball ends up. The other points though sound spot on I would imagine 😂

Are you also left eye dominant and is your left arm the stronger and your right arm more dexterous? If so I wouldn't advise using right handed clubs. Your grip will be wrong too...

What a load of rubbish. I make the following points in the name of sanity. I play with a leftie and he has good access to clubs, especially 2nd hand ones via ebay. You must play with some strange people if they stand in the wrong place when you are teeing off, it's common sense to stand out of someones eyeline regardless of what handed they are. Believe it or not, right handers suffer just as much from overhanging trees when teeing off as lefties do, at least that is what I have found on every course I have played. Right handers offering shiny new clubs to try - this moan seems that it is in there just to make the numbers up. Left handers often benefit from playing off mats because they stand on the grooved surface caused by right handed strikes and have a perfectly flat surface to play from. I am still trying to understand your reference to playing the short game, it baffles me. A shot over a bunker is exactly the same for a left or right handed player. I notice most of the comments below are from lefties, it's about time a righty put you right.
