My gf and I sold her swanky condo in the city, sold 90% of our stuff in an estate sale, bought an older $14k trailer and moved into it. We lived a high-end urban lifestyle and had crazy fun with that, but we love RV life MUCH better! We're currently living in Baja and are loving life!

@Thunderbolt **When I want a bed and shower I stay in cheap hotel** I want a bed and shower EVERY DAY and I want air conditioning or heat. The best thing about RV travel is you are towing a bathroom and a kitchen, so you don't need anything but a place to pull off the road. By working all my life I have earned the right to never sleep on the ground again.

We have been RVing for over 30 years and everything you said is true. People have no idea of what it’s really like to to spent more than a week in an RV. The lifestyle looks great but the reality is totally different. Full timing becomes a job. If you aren’t a handyman/woman don’t even think about it. You will get dirty doing unpleasant jobs so be prepared. Everything in your RV is going to break or fail. Be prepared to fix it or have a good piggy bank. Everything you do needs to be planned out. Where are you going to buy groceries, get water, dump or dispose of waste? The biggest thing we have to decide is where to spend the night when moving around. The days of pulling into a private campground or state park and getting a space are long gone. All campgrounds now require a reservation, sometimes months in advance. I can’t tell you where we are going to be tomorrow let alone 30 days from now. We rarely use a campground but even finding free spots such as BLM or national forests can be challenging. My advice is to rent an RV for at least two weeks and do not go to a luxury RV Park. Go to little or no facility places and try it before you invest thousands of dollars into something you may learn to hate. I predict that one year from now there is going to be a lot of slightly used RV’s for sale. Home is where we park it.

That is very true Vic. I think it's definitely a case by case basis. As you know we wouldn't have been able to afford to do both, but now that we have experience under our belt we would tell people that if they can figure out a way to keep the sticks and bricks and travel a ton then that would be best. Also...there really isn't a benefit to being full-time unless you are trying to save money or go on a long road trip. I feel like 6 months on 6 months off is nice or even 8 months on a 4 months off. Everyone is different though. ~Stacy~

Vic, excellent point. A coworker and her family followed their dream 3 years ago. Sold everything, bought a top of the line Class A diesel pusher financed for 12 years. They had over 300K in equity in their house and used half as the down payment. Communicated off and on with her and followed her on social media. Appeared everything was "magical" and they were all loving life. Spoke with her at length a month ago and she is devastated with the overall experience. Lots of issues with relationship, kids, extended family, poor medical care, but financial issues brought their experiment to a screeching halt. They thought that they planned for 5 years on the road financially and would be able to cash out and start over once the kids were on their own.. Hopefully buying a house in an area more affordable if they didn't continue the RV life.. maxed out bank account, credit cards, and borrowed heavily on 401ks, everything in less than 3 years. Now have an rv that's worth half of what they owe on it. She told me there were a lot of good times but she knew in the first 6 months that their financial plan wasn't solid and was much more costly than anticipated. Now they have a real dilemma. Fortunately, jobs are not that much of an issue. Both can be rehired by previous employer. Cost of home ownership has jumped 35% in same area, interest rates have climbed almost 40%. Real Estate agent told them that even with a solid down payment most lenders won't touch them with the minimal employment (you tube/social media) the previous 3 years.

I bought a 12 year old house and here is the list of all the stuff I have had to replace in a 2 year period: A/C components (cost $600), both bathrooms in-wall valve system , carpet, tile, $300 in backyard sprinklers (kept breaking so I tore it all out), light fixtures, outlets, duct in the attic, parts for sliding glass door, and other crap and maintenance. In total it would have cost $1,000's if I hired a contractor. I think I am almost ready for the RV life!

Hi David and Roe; I'm a retired truck driver, I just turned 70 and got the RV bug, so I put a $500 deposit on a 2021 Forest River toy hauler. I still ride a full dress Harley, and thought it would be so cool to take it all over the country and see what I couldn't see in a big truck. I thought it might be a good idea to research RVing on KZbin, what I hear over and over is "break down"! It seems like these RVS are so cheaply made, so I cancelled the order. The RV life has too much maintenance in my opinion, and for most people that get in their cars, turn the key and go without ever towing anything before, tells me that there are a lot of unsafe RV's out there as well. I love watching your videos, you're such a cute couple keep honest reviews coming.

I researched travel trailers for almost a year before I actually purchased one and was fully aware of what I was getting myself in to. That being said, the lack of quality products, the incredibly poor workmanship and the manner in which these are thrown together is mind boggling. I guess I am fortunate enough to have a background that allows me to complete repairs without returning to the dealership. If you are not in a position to maintain one if these units, the experience would be horrific. I approaching the 3 year anniversary of the unit I purchased new & my schedule allows me to use the unit for a week out of the month. I'm not sure if I could list all the issues I dealt with from new. I'm fully aware there are different price points for similar sized units, I purchased what I considered to "middle of the road", no quality & zero dealer support.

For me this was the most important video you've produced. During this vid, the light illuminated big time. This was the decision I was hoping would pop into my head at some point. And it just did. I now know that the full time RV "lifestyle" isn't going to work for us. I love RV's but it's the "get away" part I want. And the journey of the get away. My better half and I both know after two or three weeks of up each others...business 24/7, one of us might be floatin! We're keeping the lake house and the Arizona house and just taking those journeys to the places we want to visit. We might extend the stay or cut it short simply because we can.

The most important thing to know when buying an rv specifically travel trailers is which manufacturers to avoid completely. Unfortunately you bought from one of them, I’ve grown up with RV’s and have been full timing myself for fives years. I travel for work so it’s a great alternative to hotels and such, and have done a great deal of research so I feel confident when advising people who to buy from. Stay away from keystone and forest river, I have a friends that work at both and they say that they just slap them together to meet production needs. So if y’all are having too many problems then I suggest you trade if you can for either a grand design or a jayco, those are really the only two travel trailers well built enough for full time usage. There are many more good options in a fifth wheel set up if y’all ever go that route.

Showering in a truck stop was not pleasant due to the fact it's expensive and your not a trucker. Bathroom was unpleasant, had to use garbage bags. If you not ready for this level, don't rv because at any time you can do this for a few. Second. Motorhome means your home can break down period. Gotta have stash of cash period for emergencies. I'm getting ready for this again but this time I'll pull trailer with 50 gallons water, 60 gallons propane, spares for everything, second backup solar set up, backup fridge and spare bed. I do agree with most of this. But a lot of rv/camper owners will replace the hot water tank for an instant/tankless one. That helps a lot. And another thing to remind people is the maintenance of the camper itself. If you travel, it rocks & sways, and things arent always tight. I removed all 4 corner molds on mine, and put TV corner tape on them, and then replaced the mouldings. It really waterproofs the corners & keeps the connections tight.

@@SailingCorina Fagstaff is one of my favorite cities. It is expensive. But Flagstaff gets very cold in winter and Tucson is very hot in summer. I usually couldn’t choose when I was in a particular city as my travel was work related. Bottom line is that there are so many openings in a motorhome that heating and cooling are very inefficient. I still enjoyed it though.

I just found this and it's a year late but you're absolutely right about wintering in an RV.. I have friends who live in fifth wheelers. They live in tagalongs but the end of October beginning of November they head down to the warmer States. They have slips that they paid for the yea.r Let's say $4,000 a year is the rent on the slip. They stay there through the cold winter and then around March or April (usually April) they head back up north. The slips have sheds. When they go down to Florida they have their Christmas tree and everything all there. Holiday decorations in the shed there and they spend the winter down in Florida. Then they spend the summer up in Maine where it's more tolerable for them (it's not as hot). They have a shed there with all their summer lawn chairs etc.. figure $10,000 a year and they go back to the same exact slips. It's not like they have to move a whole house. They're just hooking their fifth wheeler up and going south and then they go north. They're happy and it eliminates the problem with the mold and all the other problems. You are 100% right that if you are not a handyman or you're not able to fix things you're going to spend money for somebody to fix it or you're going to have to drop the camper whatever it is off especially if it's under warranty. Just like any vehicle and accredited licensed person has to fix whatever's wrong or your warranty goes out the window. RVs have a shelf life. Ours was 25 years old there was no sense in putting more money into it it was time to let it go to the bone yard. I've known people who put thousands and thousands of dollars into their campers RVs whatever... And when they went to sell them they asked $65,000 for a 25-year-old camper. Anybody who went to look at it asked how old is the camper they said 25 years old and they say are you out of your mind I'm not paying $65,000 for a 25-year-old camper I can buy a brand new one. I congratulate you both on being realists.

There's a big difference between stationary full time and traveling full time. You put any house on wheels and pull down the road 3 or 4 times a month and you'll have a lot more repairs to do. The normal house never meets a pothole. We bought a new 2019, 2 1/2 years ago. It's only been moved 80 miles from the dealer to where we live. Yes we've had a couple issues, but I bet the stove will never fall off the wall, so it really depends on what your plans are. The most difficult part is lack of space, however where we live, we can have an out building or large gazebo, so we don't have to spend every minute inside. We live in FL so we don't contend with winter. There are definitely good or bad points to RV life, but it really depends on what you are trying to get out of it. We bought a new Forest River, which is a pretty good brand, however I was an over the road truck driver for many years and know what the roads can do to a vehicle. I determined withing the first 3 to 6 months of owning the RV, that there is no way I would drive it around the country regularly, travel trailers are not built well enough for that.

Great video and so true. Your observations are just as valid for part-time as much as full time. Here in the UK, Covid has meant all Motorhomes and caravans (UK name of travel trailers) have sold out. But it isn’t right for a lot of people and you can see them not having much fun. On the flip, it is great some people who never considered RVs before have taken the plunge and found a new passion. We always wanted to get into it. I’d love to do it full time but we cannot so go out a minimum once every month. We have a German travel trailer - Eriba Troll 530. Too small for you, but perfectly formed for us and had everything we could possibly need. Look it up. We have done quite a few road trips across many states in America and loved every single one. If I could live in America, I would RV full time without a doubt. Keep up the great videos.

Anyone correct me if I’m wrong but I feel like most of you guys problems are only with certain pullables. What about the newer luxury RVs. I believe you don’t have to dump the waste and just connect it with a flush tube, some handle a lot of power at once, larger water tank, hybrid power, larger bathroom with a full size shower, the bedroom closed off with a solid door as well as a extra room with a solid door, larger kitchens with tons of storage and counter space, large living space all for under 100,000 you can get for 600 a month. I see still see how you could hear each other clearly but there’s big ones out here that can give you way more space.

Not that I would ever own one mind you (they're junk in case you hadn't heard...). Pity the fool who takes the early depreciation on one of these....except for the bold, the brave, the handy or the extremely needy. They're all out there in the wild, clinging to life with the tenacity of the lawn chairs, bicycles, generators, propane tanks, and barbecue grills bungee'd or tied on. Added 31MHD Deep Cycle batteries and a gel battery for backup. (I had a diesel truck) I installed a couple of quick connects from the trucks fuel tank to the Webasto heater I installed, and then could crank the heat all night in the coldest temps and never run out of fuel. I added a 30 gallon propane tank in my pass through and a propane generator if I have to run the A/C at night. Nice talks about RV life on your side, mostly the pros and cons compared to a permanent houselife. I think RV living out there somewhere of nowhere is not permanent all through out one's lifespan, it would one day may retire back to a permanent home where he lives since. RV living is a part-time leisure in the vast land of nature in a long period of time but some may take a rest for a time back home for rig repair, upgrade or a family visit on vacation, etc. RV living is typically ideal for those who can afford the stress, frustrations and expenses and above all the budget of buying RV despite the pleasure they get from it. One of best good ideas i took from you is i learn a lot from KZbinrs/Vlogers like you especially this pandemic time. I see the world live through you! Good luck and explore more!

My parents spent 20 years RV-ing, and what started out as freedom became a prison. If they had kept their homebase property when they aged, it may have worked, but being nomad and always searching for a place to land takes a toll. Over twenty years they cycled through 4 Motor homes( the last one 10 years because they lived hand to mouth), and multiple towed vehicles and bought into several RV-ing timeshare schemes. Before my father died at 78 he had to constantly breakdown and move even in parks he was supposedly a resident of. Remember 24/7 365 x number of years in the same room! I do have a 25 year old used travel trailer set up on my property that we lived in for 9 months while building our house. I keep it as a guest house/ off grid space when we lose electricity in our house. It still requires maintenance even with occasional use!

Not a full timer but have camped many, many years in our 5th wheel. As far as power usage & water (hot), I use my propane (fridge & water heater) just about all the time. Never run out of hot water and don't have to worry about power overload from to many applications in use. One thing I like about my rig is it is setup for dry camping (toy hauler) big tanks (fresh, grey & black) so when we dry camp we are ready for at least 4-5 days without concern. One day the DW & I will be going full time, so we take in as much info & RVer's experiences to carry with us while on the road. We have done several multi day (7-14) trips, so we know we can tolerate each other, at least we got that part down LOL. Safe travels!!

I recently bought a school bus, and after I took the seats out plug the holes in the floor, I threw in a 6 foot Walmart folding table, a small desk that was handmade by somebody that’s got three drawers on one side, my camping cart, and all my camping gear. A few weeks later I’m out On the road on my maiden voyage. I am absolutely loving it I travel for a living as a CNA and this is absolutely in the life my only heat source, is a 15,000 BTU tank top heater so, I don’t run that while I’m sleeping so when it’s cold out like in the 40s I just get under my sleeping bag while I’m and sweatpants and a Hoodie, sometimes I pull the sleeping bag up over my head and leave just enough opening so I can breathe clean air and I sleep like a baby. Absolutely loved your video good job

@@phillipwallace2214 you poor thing, it wasn't meant literally, among Rvers it's a joke when something breaks down or one of the 750 fuses you need to track down. Btw, you can apply that to a boat or carmaker. Relax dude I'm ok! 🤣👍✍✅

Hi there 😊 I'm a veteran snow bird I don't have a channel because I love my privacy. I used to have this exact problem because having propane appliances such as stove, heater and the fact that breathing alone creates moisture from exhaling. I eliminated all propane from my rig. I replaced propane stove with induction style, the heaters with a desiel heater which produces only dry heat,. The only observation that is unavoidable is breathing for 4 such as your situation only cracking a roof vent fixes that with dry heat from desiel heater. Great channel by the way.. happy travels and good luck 👍
