Just took ownership of a OO Skye a couple of months ago. It's without question, the best guitar I've ever played! 😍

I'd recommend Will McNicol's music to anyone. A great fingerstyle guitarist, a brilliant tutor, and a lovely guy to boot!

I had never heard of Sana Cruz guitars, but I love the sound. My Teton dreadnaught has a good sound, but not anywhere close to these guitars. Thanks for another great show. I always look forward to the Acoustic Tuesday Show. It energizes me to play more often.

Hey, I own a Firefly, cedar top and love it-I am a very small woman, and it fits me better than any other guitar I own. I live in Santa Cruz so am lucky to have had them set it up and maintain it and they are great!!

I'm right over the hill from you in Los Gatos. I own a Vintage Southerner now. You probably got to meet Richard too and take the tour of the shop. I used to do some printing for SCG so I was in there a lot. What a vibe. Glad you love your Firefly! Peace!

Good video! Thank you. I just acquired a 1992 Santa Cruz VA with “The Tree” back and sides (#10/10).

That SC Vintage Southerner is a beautiful guitar. I love that sunburst finish. I was reading up on it on the Santa Cruz website. Two guitars that partly inspired it was the Gibson J45 and Epiphone Texan (both super guitars in their own right). How can you go wrong with this guitar? It's awesome.

I've been playing Santa Cruz guitars for about twenty years, starting with a rosewood D/PW that I bought new, then a 1995 mahogany 12-fret dreadnought, followed by a 2010 mahogany D/PW and most recently a rosewood OM that was made in 1997. I'd have a hard time picking a favorite from among them, and I've never seen another brand of guitar that I like nearly as much. Richard Hoover just makes really great, great guitars.

Hi Tony, I have played and owned an amazing amount of great guitars by great brands and luthiers but I was caught by a 00 12 frets spruce and Indian rosewood 24,75 scale. I play fingerstyle ( Renbourn, Jansch,,) and it is highly addictive. The sound is awesome and the comfort is second to none.

Tony, would you ever consider featuring Takamine guitars? I know some artists use them (only Garth Brooks comes to mind at the moment), but my whole life I have been unfamiliar with them. Martin's, Taylor's, Guilds, Gibsons and a myriad of boutique builders have always dominated the landscape, while it seems Takamine has always stood in the shadows. Are they worth considering? I would love to find out more about them. Thanks.

I saw a demo of an OMPW back in 2007 or 2008 and it exactly fit my idea of what a guitar should sound like. Months later in the midst of the recession one came up on eBay. That was it, it felt like a foolish buy at the time, I was just learning and owned just one guitar, but I’ve never regretted it. For me, it is still the ideal sound.

Tony, my 1934 OM, she's a phenomenal guitar, with a piano like tone coming off the old growth red spruce top. The only Santa Cruz I've played that was arguably better (for me) was a fiddleback mahogany OM - a different experience for sure.

I've been the happy "custodian" of several Santa Cruz guitars (incl. two Vintage Southerners, DBB Pro Bob Brozman signature baritone, an Eric Skye 00, and an all-maple F Model cutaway.) And yes, I agree, the VS is stellar! But, she comes in at 2nd place behind the DBB, whose sweet koa and adi harmonics will make you cry! Nonetheless, the VS comes in at a a very close second place; hence, two of 'em (grin).

Tony, I hear ya about the firefly but you need to try an Emerald X7. I don't believe it's possible that any other guitar comes within a country mile of it for comfort. Also being 'travel' sized it delivers a rich big tone somehow. Wonderful stuff

I really (really, really) wish I had purchased a Santa Cruz guitar 6 years ago. I was just getting back into guitar (after 20+ year hiatus) and frequently checking Reverb. At that time, a lot of Santa Cruz guitars were very reasonably priced - but I just didn't know anything about them!!! I always love videos from Tom Sands - and he is very easy to communicate with (but that seems to be the norm rather than the exception in the guitar geek community).

Great list. I was surprised that the 1929 of some size wasn’t on there. I guess I’m biased because I’m a lefty and don’t have many chances to try Santa Cruz guitars, but I own a 1929-OOO and it’s a beast! Also, I’m curious if you have played an Eastman 10SS/v? I have one and I’m blown away at how old and woody it sounds. I would be curious to how it stacks up to the sound of the VS. Cheers!

I am biased, but the Norman Blake D-12 (slotted and wider neck) needed to be in the list, to get a bigger fingerstyle monster in the list. ALSO: How do I reach you to let you know what a founding member of the Byrds thought of your Byrds lesson video?

Tony There was a video on using a Santa Cruse guitar w flat wound strings by blues artist Otis Taylor here kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJ3dfolpgMxgb6M I have not seen you do anything about different capos that cover different number of strings. I ran into them an purchased but not sure yet how to use them but sure it may take place of some alternate tuning.
