That last race with the WS6 looked alot like my 02 WS6 6 speed. I'm about to hit 60k miles in my car. It's running 10.8s@127mph with 2.0 60ft to help keep the factory 10 bolt alive. My car was box stock in 2012 and all I've done is free mods, headers, full exhaust, tick master cylinder, T/A diff girdle and a 125 shot with some 315s but I usually run my 10.5x17 MT ET street drag radials at the track. The engine, chassis, suspension, clutch, and everything is factory. I do have to put new rear lower control arms and an adjustable panhard bar on it because the factory rubber bushings are shot and those parts are stamped junk anyway. The hooker ceramic coated long tubes connected to a TSP 3" catless y-pipe and 4" spintech exhaust helped alot. Especially on the bottle. Very cheap and easy way to run 10s with a daily driver. Craigslist helped alot when i put together the nitrous kit. I have about 300$ in the whole kit. It's got everything, WOT switch, push button on the hurst pistol grip shifter, system on and arming switches with momentary purge button, bottle heater, pressure gauge, zex large race solenoids with a full size large race solenoid as a purge that I can use as a back up nitrous solenoid, steel braided line and nozzle, all for under 300$.

My brother had an 89' notch that ran an 8.8 with him going from 2nd to 4th(accidentally) on a modified stock 5 speed, modified suspension out of a 4cyl mustang, on a built 5.0 with a blower and a 100 shot of nitrous. He was making 880 to the wheels. He built the whole thing himself and it was his daily driver.

Serious question, just before launch when the car is spooling up, it abruptly lurches forward about a foot and then stops... Why is that?
@stlchucko
@stlchucko 9 жыл бұрын
He isn't in the staging beams. He's scooting up to "break" the second beam (there's 2: Prestage and stage). Watch at 2:10.... on top of the tree, there are some white lights. The one at the top is the "prestage" (first beam). He bumps forward, breaks the second beam, and the next white light turns on. This means he is staged on the starting line and the tree will start the race.

@stlchucko
@stlchucko 9 жыл бұрын
Typical stock HP numbers for a 5.3L are 300-315 HP. The most common applications for the 5.3L are GM SUVs and 1/2 ton pickups.

stlchucko Thanks for the info. Ive got a 98 and a 2005 Sierra 4.3 and 4.8, hate the 4.3 LOVE the 4.8
@stlchucko
@stlchucko 9 жыл бұрын
Richard William Guilmette The 4.8L and 5.3L have the same bore diameter, and use the same block castings, so it's possible to bump the 4.8L to a 5.3L by swapping the crank and rods. The 4.8L also uses flat top pistons instead of dished, so putting 4.8L pistons into a 5.3L bumps up the compression a little; yielding a small power gain for cheap.

Why do all turbo prepped cars jump forward an inch or two during their boost build up/launch?
@johnbewley5220
@johnbewley5220 9 жыл бұрын
The car has a transbrake in the transmission for getting up on the converter. That "jump" you see is something called a bump box. He activates the transbrake in the prestage beam.... gets the turbo spooled and ready to go... then presses the button for the bump box 1 time and it cycles the transbrake letting the car move forward 8-10 inches to fully stage the car.
@Doggepp
@Doggepp 9 жыл бұрын
Aah. Not used to see this in Sweden, is this used on N/A V8 cars also? Where I live there are mostly like EVO's, Subarus, a few GTR's and random vehicles racing, and most of them are manual (not the gtr tho), so I dont see this very often! Thanks

Going to just go ahead and ask a really stupid question that I'm sure has been answered before but... Why the 5.3L LSX engine swap? I understand that the displacement is slightly larger and, after looking at the motor's site, its default horsepower blows anything stock for a late 80s/early 90s car out of the window. However, what's the real benefit of that over boring out the stock 5.0L and running with it? I'm not trying to hate on the Chevy engine in the Mustang, but as a Ford guy with a Tbird, it's something that's been bugging me. My 4.6 isn't the largest or the fastest but it's been solid since I got it (daily driver for a college student who occasionally gets on the pedal too hard). The transmission in that car is a different story entirely though...

Take a look at this article it from hot rod magizine it may give you some insite on your question. In my opinion cost is a huge factor . I also own a 4.6 supercharged mustang it for the money spent if i would have went with an ls swap and turbos it would make 400 horse more for the same amount of money. www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/hrdp-1109-stock-gm-ls-engine-big-bang-theory/

Interesting read there. So it's primarily a cost factor, rather than the actual top-out on the engine. Good to know if I ever get into hotrodding!

The alloy ls blocks are lite as and the iron block aren't really that heavy either considering the power and torque they make stock. Then when you throw boost at them they make amazingly stupid power relatively cheaply. There is no ford engine that can match them, in any category.
@TheCamaro5
@TheCamaro5 9 жыл бұрын
First of all there is no such thing as a 5.3 LSX. The motor above is a GM half ton LQ engine, the LS engines are in the cars and the LSX are GM 2500 hp iron block specifically for racing. After seeing Hot Rod mag do a test on a 4.8 boosting it to 26 psi and they made 60 pulls on it making 1000 each time. The iron blocks on those LQ engines are stout and will take a lot of punishment. As for the 4.6 is big and heavy and would not take that much power with out blowing up.
@johnbewley5220
@johnbewley5220 9 жыл бұрын
TheCamaro5 All chevy engines since 97 are considered LS engines... just because certain ones carry an LQ designation doesn't make them any different than the LS1/6 arcitecturally.... The engine in this car is actually an L33... so its not even an LQ motor.

Can someone explain why there are so many Chevy swapped or should I say LSX swapped fox bodies? Is it for the availability of parts and price? Or are Ford motors just shit (because the Coyote is pretty tough)?

Taken from another Users comment "Take a look at this article it from hot rod magizine it may give you some insite on your question. In my opinion cost is a huge factor . I also own a 4.6 supercharged mustang it for the money spent if i would have went with an ls swap and turbos it would make 400 horse more for the same amount of money. www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/hrdp-1109-stock-gm-ls-engine-big-bang-theory/ " These engines are BEASTS!

B/C ls blocks are stupid cheap and can hold 1k hp pretty dam good and coyote motors alone cost like 8 grand.

well they are cheap to get. with this in mind a 351w stock will handle and has been to 1000hp aswell as the 5.3 ls motor so i personally would just do that and keep it around 700

Coyote is new. Pretty penny for them. The old 5.0 wasn't forged. There ls truck bashed motors are forged stock. They take well to a lot of nitrous and boost. And you can pick up a 5.3 at the local wrecking yard for around 450-700 bucks run stock internals with a turbo and get decent power. Fox body owners love the ls styled motors cause the part availability and cost. Plus foxes are light weight.

Weight. put the Mustang up against MOST GM iron and you get it. Since the LS engines were put in so many vehicles it keeps the cost down. Junk yards don't hold on to them like they're gold like the coyote motors or the Mopar stuff. I'm a well rounded car/truck/bike guy. I've got a 70 Camaro SS right now despite having 10 or so foxes before. Not to mention 4 Subaru's. An LS swap will be going into the 70 simply because the entire swap costs less than heads and intake on a 350 to get the same power. Sad isn't it?

It's obvious why they put big wide slicks on the back, but why the skinnies on the front? Can't you just run a street tire?

Smaller tires puts less friction to the ground, allowing you to move fast. They also weight a whole lot less than a street tire.

315FOX Losing weight on the rotating mass comes out to something like for every 1lb you lose off rotating mass is like saving 3-4 lbs off static weight. Helps a lot. Not only rotating weight is saved as well as less friction but when people get really into it the aerodynamics are even better.

Ford powered cars just don't run like the ls stuff, I really think ford engines will be obselet in the racing world soon.
