I find the Ocarina hidden room baffling. The one heart reward is so trivial that relatively few players would ever need it for the fight. Yet it’s so hidden that those relatively few players would ever find it. I certainly didn’t find it: jumping through lava seems like the way to lose health. It makes me wonder if the space originally had a bigger intention, like a piece of heart, and got swapped for a regular heart because no one found it and/or Nintendo decided to only have the whole heart containers in dungeons. Or… maybe just bad judgment.
@OtakuUnitedStudio3 ай бұрын
My guess is that it was meant to be a different item but they changed it at the last minute. Either a large valued rupee or some bombs. Given that it's behind the lava. I wonder if the Eye of Truth reveals it, meaning it would have been a reward for late game backtracking.
@CayenneGaramonde3 ай бұрын
It's probably just cut content and the heart is a placeholder for something else that was planned to be there.
@micheal79323 ай бұрын
In the Zelda series, hearts are sometimes used as physical symbols of gratitude. The room itself could have been added last minute by a developer and they left a heart for any players who found it.
@JacobDragyn3 ай бұрын
@@micheal7932 Are there other examples of this gratitude symbolism?
@SuperCilis3 ай бұрын
It has to be changed content or just a little thanks from dev. It IS on the map, but doesn't look like a room and who, besides me, would just yolo through lava for it. My guess is a dev cookie
@Tor-Erik3 ай бұрын
I discovered the hidden room behind the lava fall already as a kid after I - get this - got knocked back by Lizalfos's attack into the room. Thank you for showing and sharing many of the childhood secrets!
@LooygiBros3 ай бұрын
That's actually a pretty stylish way to discover it! 😄 Thank you ^^
@Tor-Erik3 ай бұрын
Of course. :) Sadly I didn't have a VHS footage of that moment as a kid. After all, VHS recorder was very expansive to purchase back in the 1990s. We always had to rent one, and my parents were always using it. Now as an adult, I have tried to recreate this stylish way many times on an N64 emulator. It couldn't be done.
@kairi46403 ай бұрын
I kinda wonder if that was the original intention, lol. I mean if you got knock-backed you would lose health. Course I forget if getting hit into the lava was one of those black screen fadeouts where you automatically respawn. 🤔 My memory is bad, lol.
@Tor-Erik3 ай бұрын
@@kairi4640 Actually no, you don't automatically respawn after get knocked back into the lava, all though you do take damage from standing on the lava after the after-hit invincibility wears off.

Here’s an interesting one. For years, I’ve had this false misconception that Ganon’s Castle from “Ocarina of Time” only contained one entrance, with that being the one you see before crossing the rainbow bridge made by the sages in order to reach the castle at the game’s climax. Lately, however, I’ve realized there’s actually a secret second entrance on the far right side of Ganon’s Castle. Once you first enter inside, you go down a flight of stairs leading you to two beamos guarding the door leading to the barrier chamber. Once you’ve entered that chamber, you’ll notice a bridge to your right leading to another passageway directly above the Water Barrier Section. The only time you can access that bridge is when you’re leading Princess Zelda out of the castle during its collapse. Upon crossing that bridge, you’re taken to another flight of stairs similar to the one you went down from the castle’s entrance. This second set of stairs doesn’t have two beamos guarding it at the bottom and leads you directly to the castle’s second exit. Upon narrowly escaping the castle, this exit contains a protruded cliffside for Link and Zelda to safely stand on before the castle collapses entirely. This cliffside wasn’t present at the first entrance after crossing the rainbow bridge. I can’t believe it took me all these years to figure out that tiny detail.
@MrV9023 ай бұрын
Yeah, that bridge always bugged the crap out of me.

One day I noticed that in Ocarina of Time, hearts placed on the map are completely different than hearts that spawn when you defeat an enemy or lift a rock. One is a rotating 3D model, and the other is a sprite, and the sprite has a different graphic.
@KairuHakubi3 ай бұрын
isnt that weird? just like the separate 3d model for an item that you pick up.. i guess they had to be different entities.

The secret rooms in the first Metroid on the NES drove me nuts as a kid. You can see them partially by doing the "door trick" where you clip through the walls and scroll the camera vertically.

you _know_ there was a gold skultulla where that heart is. there's no visual indication, but you'd be able to _hear_ it and there's another "off the map" gold skulltula in the deku tree already

I knew five of them, which isn't bad; I feel like I should have known about the "DYDDY" code, and while I knew Kirby's Adventure had a HAL room I didn't know which level it was in. (Also nice triple jump off the Whomp. When people ask why I love Super Mario 64, it's things like that.)
@Stinkyremy3 ай бұрын
I love that game too. I don't really even play 2d mario games but because of that game I often play 3d mario games trying to relive the hype that game had as it was so good. Still no 3d mario game has competed. I thought odyssey would, while it is a good game, it's nowhere near as good as M64.

There's another hidden room in Vegetable Valley, in stage 1: under a waterfall, you'll see 4 floating blocks with one not having the visual effect of the water under it like the other 3. Going there and pressing Up will take you to a room with a 1up and a UFO enemy, letting you use the extremely rare and useful power early on. Unfortunately, UFO can't be taken out of the levels that it's found in under normal circumstances - completing or exiting the course will have Kirby lose it.

I was so obsessed with Kirby's Adventure as a kid, and I remember finding that room for the first time and just being in awe! I still love to show it off to this day, because I feel it's such a lesser known secret in the game. There's also a hidden door at the end of 1-2 near the end of the stage that leads to a room with a Bronto Burt and a 1-up. To this day it amazes me how many fun secrets they packed into this title.
