@@coryflintoff9872 look at the song writing credits on their albums-before Delonge left on self titled (one of their defining efforts), and on Nine-for instance… one side is all Blink, and the other is less so. Can you guess which that is? I’d say that there’s some differentiation to be made between finding mainstream success in scratching and clawing to create your own niche/sound in the 90’s-00’s, and being long past the point of securing legendary status, but choosing to not work so hard creating your own songs and sound. Disney-Wave Blink has a lot of help on their songs, and a sound that is not very much Blink.

@@jeremyrafuse5330 I legitimately like Matt in blink. The thing I don't like is John Feldmann's producing style. (I'm glad he got them to bring the joke songs back on California, even if they were really short, but that's about the extent of my praise for him) He was great in Goldfinger, because the band was built around his production, but trying to implant that production on an already established band like blink-182 just doesn't work. The only issue I have with Matt is that he has trouble replicating Tom's guitar style on the old songs, but he is a great guitarist in his own right, just listen to Alkaline Trio, he's just very different from Tom. If Tom and Matt both played in blink, I think it evolve their sound in a big way, just my opinion.

Trick #2 is actually a great idea for any kind of rock mix, in my opinion. I'm a beginner musician who mixes his own music and ever since I heard about that technique, the low end in my mixes started sounding MUCH better. I usually take the DI and low pass it, I mean really low pass it, like everything above 300 Hz I just throw away. And then I take the same DI, run it through an amp sim with a decent amount of distortion, and high pass it at about 200 to separate all the upper harmonics and the fuzziness, and then blend it together. Definitely recommend it to all the beginners like me.

I think the most important thing is to use single coils on any riff / leads parts. They cut through the mix so much more than humbuckers. No idea. That's not really something anyone could answer unless they know / have worked with him personally, haha. Speaking for myself, I know very basic theory (like where the notes are on a fretboard, a bit about keys, etc) but I've never sat down and wrote a song just by using theory. I think that would be a bit of a sterile way of writing tbh. It's always what sounds good to me in the moment, which I think is how a lot of people write, that don't come from a theory-based background.
