Intelligent enough to travel across the star systems and yet... no knowledge of dihydrogen monoxide? Did they discover forms of propulsion without ever studying chemistry? Did they not have any water containing planets nor celestial bodies in their home system? Never come across water in any form whilst traveling the universe? I mean... they called it blue rock. They seem to have had no knowledge whatsoever of water. Seemingly no knowledge of liquids either! 21:34 The aliens want to explore our wide expanses of blue rock... It indeed was sad but those aliens must've been mighty stupid!

@@spongebob358 heart breakingly stupid indeed, considering that water in various forms is abundant in the universe because its components, hydrogen, and oxygen, are among the most abundant elements in the universe, from basic dihydrogen monoxide, deuterium oxide to superionic water.

I'm not sure but I was like, so scared omg," and you're hating it? Why not just youtube search "sci if stories?" And here I am. Water as a surprise weakness is ridiculous. Perhaps there is some intelligent civilization somewhere that is unaware of water. Perhaps water would be dangerous to them as well. They would certainly learn about water and the danger it represents to them long before they reach our planet.

1:09:30 by Bob Shaw was written 1966 for Analog Science Fiction and Fact. This tale and others using "slow glass" are more than a "patch" Same publishers did Asimov's Foundation series. And Isaac had a long career, 1950s - 1980s. So, same era. Maybe you were looking for something all action-adventure with nothing philosophical. Mire Star Wars than Star Trek. That's ok.

Most of the stories are engaging and fun to listen to. The first one is the best, though evolution without water...is unlikely, to put it mildly. Some of the stories made me laugh. Some made me smile. Only the main character of the slow glass story is absolutely despicable, wanting to murder his pregnant wife and calling her a !%&$@. I was hoping he'd get what he deserved, instead of that absurd, warped Hallmark ending. The other slimeballs in previous stories did get what was coming to them eventually, so that story was a creepy disappointment. The poor fool of a wife should've at least gotten away from the creep. Still, most of the other stories have been fun, so I'm hoping it gets better again. If not, it'll have to be a thumbs down from me. That kind of evil is nothing to make light of or overlook. As Jesus said so well, every crime starts in the heart, and it's the heart that He'll judge.

Thank you for your excellent guide to this literature. It has really helped me decide which ones to listen to. Even some of the comments, and the comments on the comments, ad absurdum, are stupid. I bet. Stupid writers, stupid publishers, stupid readers. All the best stuff was never written, because they were unwilling to take a chance to go public with their imaginations. Because guess why?
