@@allofmewhynot I actually ended up parlaying my experience as a theatrical set designer into a role as a Show Set Designer at Walt Disney Imagineering! It was worth mentioning that even if Rapture had worked as intended, it would have had some debatably serious flaws. Andrew Ryan's vision was largely for a purely capitalist society. Which has some interesting implications. Services like the police would have been based on a subscription fee, there was no public education, and so on. It was his own ideology that started the downfall of rapture. Because it necessitated castigating the poor and less successful, which made the rise of Frank even easier. Really, he created the conditions in the first place. Maybe it would have been a utopia, but only for the rich.

Fun fact: Even if Rapture had not fallen, it still would've crumbled and fell apart eventually. Andrew Ryan had Rapture built from Aluminum, which does not handle the ocean's pressures as well as Steel. The whole structure was unsafe from the start. Without constant maintenance from Big Daddies, the entire city would be little more than dilapidated buldings and rubble by the 1980's. The water would've flooded into virtually every space, rendering the city completely uninhabitable. The submersibles would be inoperable with no power going to them. Not even the splicers would survive. That said, many artifacts from Rapture would've floated up to the surface. Still, it would make a cool game for Bioshock 4, which we will likely never get.
@TheCorrodedMan24 күн бұрын
On the Splicer issues; I find myself wondering if any of them aside from Gil Alexander would have the forethought to begin altering their bodies for underwater life, leading to a massive uptick in sea-based attacks from “unknown creatures” within the ocean near Iceland. Odds are though that they’d become entirely dependent on the sea slugs to survive, consuming the flesh for food and the Adam to support their addiction. Once those were rendered extinct… _then_ the Rapture Nightmare would finally end.
@petewilliams.1122 Жыл бұрын
Caution - there's no such thing as a nice Splicer, around every corner, behind every door one of these crazed darlings is waiting - usually with a lead pipe in hand! This radio drama will give those who've never played the computer game a feel for what awaits them. It really is a spooky, atmospheric and well made production. Bioshock truly is 'the' video FPS that everybody should 'dive' into. Your choices 'become' you, with that in mind play with a mature head on your shoulders 'would you kindly'!

This is an AMAZING audio production. I knew nothing about Bioshock before this and had no interest in learning about its world. The incredible voice work, perfect pacing, and ingenious found-footage framework of this two parter totally sucked me in. Fontaine is my favorite character, his voice actor hit it out of the PARK. Cunning and sly, slow paced and thoughtful, but still with total mobster energy. I LOVE Ryan too, he's commanding and compelling but he also doesn't have the deepest voice or most masculine tone; sounds like just little enough of a man that he'd have something to prove. Perfect for a guy who's obsessed with demonstrating the superiority of mankind through achievement and personal strength. In my head, he's literally Henry Ford with a mustache. Bill is also wonderful. His voice exudes humility and decency in every word he speaks. I listened to the whole 12 hour audiobook this is based upon, and while the original is great and adds a lot of extra context, I would NOT have gotten so into this story with the audiobook alone. You selected the very best parts and condensed it into a thrilling, captivating three hour epic. I feel like VERY little was lost from the book, and the story here is SUPER coherent and stands on its own, even apart from the games, which I still haven't played out watched on yt. I am enraptured by your Rapture. You could say I found myself thoroughly... Immersed.

Spencer Richardson Yeah I could tell, a lot of passion went into it. It is one of the great video game narratives of our time for sure and having read the John Shirley novel, I appreciated both the dialogue and some of the character back stories from the novel incorporated with the in-game content. I felt it really gelled nicely to make it this sprawling, cohesive narrative. Love the attention to detail with the accents/dialects though with Fontaine's thick Bronx accent, Bill's cockney likability and of course Suchong's trademark speech style. Looking forward to part 2 dude!

While the voices might not be perfect (Ryan, not the best, needs more bass and swaggering bravado) some are absolutely spectacular (Sullivan is a sound-alike and Bill McDonagh, one of the hardest accents to nail, is done with panache and echoes the voice John Shirley used in the audiobook for BioShock: Rapture) and the mixing of BioShock I, BioShock II, BioShock: Rapture and even little bits of data mined from missing/removed audio diaries, this is a fantastic amalgamation of the stories and feels like a "real" BioShock (Ken Levine) licensed version, minus the small flaws in voice acting. Another commendation goes to Suchong's voice, he really got a good feel for the character's voice in BS1 and BS2, and doesn't go to the silly range that the voice in BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea got to. Same for Tenenbaum, minus some small points here or there where I disagreed with the actress' interpretation of the lines. Did I mention how much I like this yet? +1 on Google+, thumbs up on KZbin, and a litany of relistenings for me.
@americawashington27009 жыл бұрын
I don't want to start an argument, but in defense of Suchong's voice actor in Burial at Sea, it was recorded years after both games had been released. The actor had gotten older and was merely trying to recapture the performance he had already given in the previous game.

spear401 Over the top means that it's exaggerated to an extent that it's detrimental. I don't know if I would use that phrase, but it is kind of goofy sounding, and (to Nuka-Cola), it is not nearly as good as the original. All Bioshock games have fantastic voice work and dialogue.
