Sadly our kitten is reacting the same way. We had her housemate kitten only 11 days and unfortunately she passed away from FIP. Since then, our baby is very anxious when we leave the house and all night she meows/howls for her housemate. It breaks my heart to see her suffering so. They had just gotten to the point of being cordial together before Ethel passed, but somehow this affected Raven severely. They were both from a cat rescue and we do still have our elderly dog but she is just lonely for her friend. Can’t really get another friend for her right now because she acquired a harsh case of parasites and we can’t get rid of them. Sad situation.

I know some people may not be able to have more that one cat where they live, but I've always found that having multiple cats, well, at least two, helps with separation anxiety. Especially if they were raised together and like each other. I think they like the idea of having someone else there with them, even if it's another cat. (or dog, even). And I would always leave a TV on if I new I would be gone for more than a couple of hours. The cat TV channels are great for this!!😸

I had one that would beat up on my personal property whenever our family left for a few days. She was my kitty so it was only my shoes, plants, and other items she would attack. People misjudge cats by considering them solitary animals, they just like dogs better, cats just aren't as open or show like dogs do that they need you or need help or stuff like that, but they do show it in their own way, we just don't lock and or don't see it, because we're blinded by our own stupidity and judgment

My cat has separation anxiety. But since I don't go out a whole lot and I can be home with my cat all the time she's usually fine.
@tee3219 Жыл бұрын
Similar with me. However, I hv bn thinking that I need to use my time away to run errands as an enriching time to help tame her anxiety and reward her with play time, a treat, massage or a cuddle upon my return. This type of conditioning helps them learn to accept some alone time. Many experts recommend a cat play mate. I did go this route with a kitty play mate, close in age--both were older kittens at the time.

My poor kitty has separation anxiety for sure. My vet gave me calming treats for him if I'm going to be away for a long day like medical appointments and such, but I always make sure to be home every night by 9pm. He will rip up my sheets on my bed, or any clothing on the floor/couch. He also "yells" at me when I get home if he missed me while I was gone. I try to love him up and give him extra attention while I'm home, and try to play with him if he's in the mood (sometimes he just wants a good cat nap on the couch cuddled up with me). Thank you for this video, a great topic for sure. I live in an apartment complex where people leave their cats/pets for days at a time thinking they're alright. They leave the toilet lid up for water, and put the automatic feeders on for them. I hear them at night especially crying for their owners and it breaks my heart. More content like this might give a heads up to more people out there and help them understand their pets better, and in turn get a better pet response 😻💕

I have a cat sitter if I'm gone even for a weekend. He goes to the persons house and is treated just like their own pets. The husband even got really attached to the cat, because he was the one that gave him his thyroid medicine. PS His medicine was specially made so it could be rubbed on the inside of his ears. The thin skin and lots of blood vessels allows the medicine to be absorbed. It does leave behind a residue that you have to wipe off before apply the next dose, but if you have a cat terrified of pills it is so easy.

my family has a tradition of naming our cats after food, before I was born there was snickers, Mocha, and butterscotch, snickers sadly passed away before I was born, then we got Pumpkin in like 2016? I would say. sadly she got ran over by a car (she was indoor/outdoor bc she was a stray that we just took in) then mocha died, old age didn’t kill her directly but she was suffering so we put her down then my sister got Nyla, not a food but that was her name at the shelter so that was what she was used to, then butterscotch died in 2020, the last cat I have owned, he had some sort of eye cancer, and he was old. then my other sister got Alfredo, his original name was pineapple at the shelter but she named him (Sir) Alfredo

My cat used to have separation anxiety, she would take one of her favorite toys and start dragging it around the house and meow loudly. Though she hasn't done that lately, maybe because my mom stays home all day with my 3 year old nephew, or because I'm home within 4-7 hours instead of 8-10. (Got a new job that offered a bit less hours but I like it more than my last job.) She hasn't done the meowing in a while, but she's always happy to greet me when I get home. She also loves my mom, so she will be okay when I leave for a few days at the end of the month, but I'll ask mom to keep a close eye on my cat. Cynda is rather protective over us and really loves to just hang out whenever I'm home. Even sleeping in my room whenever I have the day off and am playing on my laptop all day.

My cat was stressing out in our new apartment; even meds didn’t help. I noticed he’s more comfortable at the old house (which I still own). So now he lives with my best friend, the previous non-custodial parent. When I go there, a couple of times per week, he’ll follow me, swat at me, and, when I’m getting ready to go out the door, he’ll zoom to the staircase by the door, run up a few steps (eye level with me), and give me his puppy dog eyes. So yeah, there’s probably separation anxiety involved (he’s the opposite of a Velcro cat, btw), but I don’t know what to do at this point.

We have an almost 4 year old boy who's not quite a pandemic kitten but not far from. When I started working in the office every other week it became really clear that there was a difference in his anxiety when I was at home vs when I was away for 9 hrs a day. No matter how much we played, clicker trained, cuddled, went out with a harness, he could still howl through the night if he knew I was going to leave the next morning. So it became clear to me that the issue wasn't how we spent the time we had together after work, the issue was the time he spent alone throughout the day. We got him a brother in December and he hasn't howled a single night since then.

My cat may be used to me going to work every day, but now I take evening classes. Even tho they're usually online, when I have to go write a test, I have to actually be there. And my cat gets separation anxiety while I'm at the evening classes, writing a test. I come home, and my cat immediately greets me, and wants me to come to bed immediately. And my mom tells me how he's been walking around the apartment, desperately looking for me, and meowing, despite her attempts of consoling him. He's such a good cat. I can't wait till September, when I will study during the day, so I can cuddle my cat at afternoon.

I think this is why my mom always had 2 or more cats in the house. To avoid anxiety for them, as friends help animals. Growing up with cats, I can say that cats are in some ways like dogs. They need companionship. Luckily, I never had any of my cats that had anxiety. I know most people think that cats don't understand you, but I think they do. My family and I treat our animals as family members. We've always been one to tell them where we're going and that we'll be back so and so timeframe. My cat Buffy was very independent and liked to try and hunt for us, which was a little annoying. When she learned we didn't like her trying to bring in dead things, she resorted to running inside with a live rabbit in her mouth. She was also kind of aloof. She only wanted attention or picked up when she asked for it. Pros I guess to bringing in a stray cat. Midnight was my other (youngest daughter of Buffy). She was my cat ever since she was a baby. Sometimes watched TV with me, always slept with me along with my dog Perdy (black lab), quiet as a mouse, never a troublemaker except for one time when she bit me for seemingly no reason and I had to temporarily close the door on her to teach her not to bite me (she learned her lesson after I allowed her in about 15 minutes later), and she was my little shadow. She was like a cat version of myself normally. And like my dog, she was there whenever I got home from school, waiting for me. I can detest that you shouldn't yell at your cat, because they won't know what they did wrong. It'll confuse them as to what they did to make us mad at them. What I learned growing up is just pat them on the booty and tell them no. Not to do that. Or if you're trying to teach them not to jump on counters or something, then get a bottle of water and spray a little bit whenever they do it. That'll teach them. Just don't do it in their face. But anyways, because of Midnight, someday I want another more quiet and calm cat. They're the best companions. Gotta say though that it was scary when Midnight went MIA and I found my bedroom door jammed shut on her. Had to use the tiny tool set we had for emergencies to pry it open. Never knew why it happened, but as someone that in high school started to believe in the paranormal and knowing my sister as a teenager used tarrot cards, I wouldn't be surprised if it was something paranormal that either wanted to show that it was there or wanted to cause Midnight or someone else harm. When I found her, she was rightfully scared. Next to my dog, Midnight was my baby.

Since I live weird life of whole night at grandpa's place (and since dad died also from 15 to 18 in day) and she is living at grandpas place constantly since dad died... She started to leave house and now everytime I need to go to grandpa (so at 23) she is already roaming around my home and I only need to meow or call her name twice for her to climb on my shoulder as we go to grandpa. Then she later sleeps on my lap for an hour before going outside again for few hours to do cat stuff, probably. And distance between is 2km. But in the past I used to take her from home to grandpa and back on a shoulder and she must have learned the path. She leaves about 20m before I leave home and she knows it's time to go like she somehow understands clocks. I was unemployed and took care of grandpa her whole life (so now 5y) so she had me nearby constantly till half a year ago. At first her anxiety showed in form of finding me, climbing on my shoulder and pooping from there, but after a month she got used to me not being 24/7 with her.

Unfortunately the TV puts the screen on pause after 6hrs and that's from the service provider and not me. I do have the sound low because of hearing too. When I get home I pick her up and give her a hung till she's had enough and wants to jump down. She does rub my face during that time. She's use to having me gone for more than 8hrs and is pretty calm when I get home. If I have been away for a day or more her likes a long hug. I do have a cat sitter when I do.

I keep Kling-On's litter box out on the balcony which overlooks a Lake, so she gets to watch all of the birds, ducks and squirls. I'm usually home with my cat ALL day long. She usually sleeps in my Closet during the day, but then in the evenings she alternates from spends many hours on my lap or playing. I typically only run errands 1 day a week so I'll only be go me for 2-3 hours. I don't think that she gets any "Separation Anxiety" then, because I'll find her sleeping in my chair and she'll just look up at me and then go right back to sleep again without welcome me home. BUT 1 day a month, I'll be gone for 6-7 hours. If I'm gone during the early part of the day, I don't find evidence of any problems, but if I leave during the 2nd half of the day, there have been 3 times in the last year that I have come home and my apartment will have a very pungent smell that isn't like urine at all. Is that her Spraying??? The only room with carpet is my bedroom, and we are only in there when I sleep. The other rooms all have laminate flooring. I don't know where she's spraying, so I will keep the sliding glass door wide open for 2 days/nights and then the order is gone.
@tee3219 Жыл бұрын
My thoughts... - please be sure the balcony is safe and the cat can't fall through the grates. - purchase a black light and run it across the perimeter of each room to scout for urine. Clean with an enzyme cleaner made to dissolve urine odor. - adopt a play mate--research shows it helps make cats well rounded. Introduce them properly. See You Tube videos by professional, "Jackson Galaxy".

I had a cat that got severe separation anxiety. I had to leave her at the vet for some surgery. They had me leave her an extra day because she wasn’t recovering well and had pulled out her stitches. When I went to get her she had peed and pooped all over herself. They had used horse tape over the stitch site without shaving her…that was a mess to get off. Fine tipped embroidery scissors and lots of pets got it off. They went back to get her and when they were bringing her up she practically leapt out of the tech’s arms and into mine and just started purring and rubbing on me. The vet said he’d never seen a cat that attached to its caretaker. I went to visit my brother and left her with my sister, who she knew. She pooped and peed all over the room she was in and, again, leapt into my lap when I got there to pick her up and stayed on top of me for the next few days…crying when I was out of her sleep at 19 years old.

I adopted a cat from my internship 2 years ago. The company was a home for cats that weren't peaceable in housholds, during to aggressiveness or sicknesses etc. My cat was labelled as aggressive, because he slapped the baby of their previous owners due to the crying driving him crazy. After he was brought to a shelter he did get aggressive, because he didn't know how to express his feelings. He hated other cats and just wanted attention for himself. When I med him at my internship he was always laying on a couch all curled up and whenever we where there to feed the cats he would try to escape and he slapped me in the face one day, cuz I meowed back at him lol, but I could see he felt bad after seeing my reaction. The next day he had to go to the vet to remove some teeth and he was the sweetest little boy. So than it clicked. He was depressed, because he needed a family. So i took him home. He's now the happiest boy and turning 12 in May! But he does have seperation anxiety. I live with my dad only, so I try to make sure I'm home whenever my dad is staying at his girlfriends or on vacation etc. He even misses me when I go to the toilet for 5 minutes and shouts all around the house looking for me, so I take him with me most of the time. I'm so sorry for him that it took him this long to be in a loving family like he deserved. He's such a cuddly baby and I hope his anxiety will go away over time so he can live his golden years in peace.

I have reason to believe my cat (named Frankie) has separation anxiety. When he was a kitten, we were always around him. My mom's (now ex) boyfriend, that we'll call V, would let him attack his hand, which now I think results in him thinking that he can be more violent towards us. V would always get really mad at Frankie and even threatened to kill him one time. Frankie got super scared, and even though he's not a lap cat, he wanted me to hold and cuddle him. One V moved out, Frankie started to scream and yowl all the time, especially when we went upstairs and left him downstairs. When he finally comes up the stairs, he stops yowling and goes under my bed. My mom has reported that it gets worse when we are at our dad's house (our parents are divorced), and she can't get him to stop. I have started to leave my door open at night, so he has a place to sleep near me, and whenever I leave, I always make sure my bed is a comfortable, inviting area for him. He still screams a lot, which is why we are trying this vest that is supposed to help with anxiety in cats. I'm hoping that this works because otherwise we might have to give him up. I think if it comes to that, I'll ask that we visit the vet for help first.

I teach my cats to sit on my shoulder when they wish to come with me. There they can stay as long as they want. Rarely it is used though. Only small cats use it for a couple of days. And pregnant cats for moments.

I would recommend to keep at least two cats. The costs are not very much higher and they will have company during the day when you have to leave the house to go to work. They will just be more relaxed in general because in nature they also stick together in loose packs. A cat all alone will feel lonley no matter how much love you give her. She needs the company of her own kin. I also recommend to always leave enough dry food in her bowl and access to enough fresh water. This will also give her a feeling of safety. Also in case if something really happens to you, the cat/s will not starve to death meanwhile. I do this since years: my two cats have constant access to dry food, day and night. They are both NOT obese and are very relaxed, very happy and friendly.

I agree but hv learned "free feeding" is not usually recommended by experts...but do leave kibble and water when leaving for a few hours. A time feeder is even better👍🏻

Our vet says dry food is not good for them at all. She exclusively treats cats & knows her stuff! Also, fish is not good for them either. Do they like it? Of course, but would you feed your child unhealthy foods every day? Once in a while, as a treat is as much as we do now. We're still trying to get our cat completely off dry food, but she's getting less than half of what she used to, so it's getting better!

@@jjrat5pack Go buy better dry food duh, here let google help you a little "Dry food is fine as long as it is complete and balanced". My cat gets a bit of dry food when I wake up, she gets a big scoop of canned wet food for lunch and a little more dry kibble for dinner. Not that hard.
@tee3219 Жыл бұрын
@@jjrat5pack I do feed dry food for their night meal and when I'm leaving home for a few hours--so that they can graze. Additionally, my household has observed that our two girls won't eat a full meal/their wet food when we are away (nor use the litterbox if they can wait). I hv a question... If your vet does not recommend seafood and many cats are allergic to chicken/poultry (in the broader sense to include turkey) as are mine...what protein does she recommend? I hv bn told beef is not good for cats either. Most pet foods are chicken flavor which makes it even harder to find food for them. I think salmon is a good choice, it has healthy omegas and does good for their skin and fur. I would like to hear your thoughts and more on what you've learned on feline diet from your veterinarian...thank you.

My cat gets regular meals at (mostly) fixed times. If I have to be in the office all day I combine her breakfast and lunch, with a _little_ extra, and leave it in a puzzle feeder. I'm not sure if she eats the whole batch at once or if she spaces it out a little, but she always seems pretty happy when I get home. Sometimes when I come home during the evening after activities, I find her looking out of the window. I think she has developed a feeling for when I get home, because it's usually around the same time. I still sometimes worry about her. And I do find increasing amounts of scratch marks on specific parts of the furniture. But she also might just be doing that at night. She's normally quiet at night, when I'm behind a closed door. I often do find her waiting for me in the morning, but she's also frequently in one of her napping spots, so... While I think being alone isn't her favorite of times I think she's fine?

I get separation anxiety when I'm away from my cat 😢 I think about her while I'm at work and I wonder how she's doing. I have only one cat. I placed 2 cat trees at the living room window, and when I arrive home from work she is perched on one of them. She puts her face to the glass, meows happily, and scratches the top post as I walk by the window. When I open the door, she'll strut to the kitchen and do her dance under the kitchen table chair 😊 Then, I'll stick out my finger and call her to sniff it. She'll come and sniff my finger so I can pick her up. After I pick her up, she sniffs me again 😅 When she's done sniffing me I fix her breakfast. This is our regular routine ❤😊 And, when I'm settled in the bed, she'll run and jump on the bed and sleep on my chest❤

Our adopted kitty has had anxiety since a kitten (we're her 5th family in 3 years), she was medicated daily, and now has medication only on every third night. Otherwise she'll exhibit many of the symptoms your video describes, she's a sweet Tabby with a troubled past. For 6 months she'd happily claw at her scratching post, now for reasons we don't know only claws our carpet and no longer claws her scratching post? Any advise on how to remedy this? Thank You 😺💞

Ever since my gramma died our cat started plucking out her fur and yelling at the door every time i go out. Kitty has bold spots now. The vet perscribed us some meds, but they don't seem to help. I don't know if there is even something i can do besides giving her all the love i can. People suggested i let kitty hear her voice, but once showed her a video of gramma, upon hearing gramma's voice kitty became very anxious, started running around and looking for gramma, going back and forth to the front door, meawing and over all acting feeverish. That was a bad suggestion i have to say. Feel horrible that i can not help my kitty. Just so you know, whilst gramma was dying, the cat would fight to get to her bed, to hug her hand or lay next to her. We could only let kitty be around gramma under strict supervision because gramma was very frail and kitty has a habbit of walking on you or jumping onto you. Kitty's anxiety probably already started there, but i was preocupied to notice, gramma needed constant and vigilant care. Gramma's death was so traumatic even our cat has mental problems because of it. I wish things were different.
