I am learning new things as well and saw a need to update these skill sets.
Please subscribe to our KZbin Channel: / orderofman
There are a lot of definitions and descriptions of what it means to be a man. With so many descriptions, it's hard to know what it really means and what it really takes to be a man in today's society.
I've narrowed it down to 8 skill sets every man must master:
Relationships-Building powerful relationships with friends, family, and co-workers is necessary if you want to achieve any level of success.
Intellect-We, as men, cannot use ignorance as an excuse to live a mediocre life. We must continually gain knowledge to get ahead.
Leadership-At some point, you will be called upon as a leader in your business, family, or community. Your ability to influence and lead others will spell the difference between success and failure.
Manly Skills-A manly-man is a man that knows his way around the tools. But developing manly skills is so much more important than that. You need to become resourceful in all areas of life.
Money & Finance-Do you know how to handle your money? If not, becoming a man means that you are a good steward over the resources that you have. Learning to master your money, will ensure that you have more of it.
Physical Fitness-Losing weight, becoming stronger, eating healthy: these are all things that a real man is developing. Not only will you look better, but you'll perform better too in all areas of your life.
Self-Mastery-The man who can best control his mind, wins! Are you aware of the information that is going into your mind? Discipline, courage, commitment, and other virtues all start in the mind and it's your job to control it.
Style & Fashion-As a contractor would use a hammer to build a house, you can use style and fashion as a tool to help you accomplish what you want. Always strive to look your best. If you look good, you play good.

Gabriel Cabello it's funny how much negativity you can get on KZbin. No man on the Earth is perfect or infallible. Everybody struggles with their own humanity from time to time. Ernest Hemingway struggled with alcoholism and depression, basically his own imperfections. Everybody can be hypocritical at times. To think that you're not hypocritical is arrogant. This is in reply to the other comments.

I would add being a teacher. One of the most important jobs a man has is teaching the next generation of men how to act. Teach with words and by example.
@yourmom1302
@yourmom1302 3 жыл бұрын
Example is certainly necessary and consistently effective. Not enough people lead by example anymore and that's why younger men have more and more problems lately. I'm a younger man myself and frankly i'm disgusted and disappointed by most of the people in my own generation. But I'm trying to help the people I care about to become bigger than they currently are. I just need to remember my humility.

I believe number two is the most important. My paternal Grandfather went to work on a ranch as a wrangler in his early teens to help support his family and never finished high school. He made up for it two ways. First he made up for his lack of formal education by reading and writing every day as well as learning math from one of his sisters. Secondly, he learned all he could about horses and cows and became a successful rancher who started from scratch. He was well respected in the community because he was level headed and took time to think through a problem before acting. I believe we should all improve ourselves no matter where we start.

We live in an era where women are becoming more masculine and men more feminine. Polarity is a wonderful thing. I love being in a presence of a feminine woman. Brian: I'd say that we as men need to understand violence, and your post comes close to it. "....men admit when they are wrong and apologise if they do" - This implies we know Right and Wrong as concrete, objective ideas. I personally get those from Scripture as a Christian. When it comes to the use of force and therefore violence, this must be our guide. Let me know what you think.

Richard P I agree violence might be required to protect one's family in certain occasions but only as a last resort. Men need not be afraid of violence though and this effeminate generation seems to teach men to fear the wild untamed side of masculinity. But i do think that side must be guided by moral values and virtues. But i do this this side of masculinity is caged now more than ever before in history.

1. Relationship with the Universe, Creation, The Supreme Being (which ever term you prefer) is the only one that counts, unless one was foolish enough to bring children into this world 2. Intellect. Learn as much as you can about as many things as you can. 3. Leadership if you are lucky enough to have intelligent people around you. 4. Manly Skills. Gardening, carpentry, plumbing, house wiring, home repairs, auto maintenance, problem-solving. Do as much as you can without needing to hire contractors and handy-men. 5. Money. Income should be greater than expenditures. If you can't pay cash for something, you can't afford it. Pay off debts as soon as possible. Learn to do without. No debit cards. Use credit cards sparingly, and only for major purchases of what you NEED, not what you want, avoid the quick cash loan sharks. 6. Physical Fitness. I neglected this for the past 60 years. I've now decided to build as much muscle as possible, though difficult as it is. I lost 30 lbs in the past year. Physical strength increases brain power 7. Self-Mastery. You become the product of your thoughts. You create your own reality. 8. Style & Fashion. I'm retired. So, I set my own fashion standards.

"Man of God" usually doesn't mean much these days. One thinks of sexual degenerates on the one hand and the New Testament's commands to "turn the other cheek" and to be "gentle" (such commands have the capacity to turn a man into an effeminate little lamb). But just this phrase - "Man of God" - Wow. That really SHOULD mean something. I think of a kind of stoic resolve (perhaps the stoic resolve of a Stoic?) to become courageous, virtuous, to strive to love truth and to fight for the Good above all else, and a dozen other things could be named.

If your faith works for you then that's great, but don't belittle others for not believing in the same things you do. There are many gods, many religions, many life philosophies that don't require a "god" for guidance. At the end of the day they all say the same thing. Don't be a dick. It's a simple thing, to just be respectful in life. Doesn't take some supernatural entity or religious coda. Just, as each decision point occurs, think about it and choose the option that's neither destructive or harmful to yourself or others. Be respectful of others and of your own self. Everything flows outward from that. It's not effeminate, it's not being a "lamb". It's simply not being a dick.

Sir I watched this video with great interest and found it very informative. I would add one other skill set to your group. That is that every man should know and understand and practice military tactics. This could be added in to the physical fitness regimen for a dual accomplishment. I spent 7 years in the military as a field soldier... A grunt. And the tactical and strategic thinking lessons I learned have stayed with me all my life and I use them every day. Specifically I am speaking of skills that include reading the geography for potential threats; watching how an opponent moves, as this tells me how they are thinking in conflict situations; leadership that begins with the concept of leading from the front and taking care of your people first; another thing I learned in combat is how to Marshall and conserve your strength over time. Long battles take lots of energy and you don't want to run out before the battle is over. This has a lot of direct application to relationships, especially those that might be difficult and long lasting; and then there is the development of a "step back look" which is being able to be aware of what is going on immediately in front of you and to also to be able to sense the greater picture so as not to be surprised by a flanking movement so to speak. Also I would add that every man should work on developing flexibility in our responses. This entails getting out of the habit of responding to situations in pre-determined ways. We need to be flexible in thoughts, words and actions. We need to divest ourselves of that ego state that demands that we win at all costs and develop one that is less self-centric and is more nurturing and open. Being a man is easy. Being a good man is hard and dangerous and it is entirely worth the effort. I feel that masculinity is under attack and our boys, adolescents and young men are being crippled by a system designed to reduce us as people, as human beings and that a great campaign (a semi successful one) to make us more feminine in our thoughts, words and actions is being waged against us. And while there is nothing wrong with the feminine, indeed, as good men we should always respect and honor the feminine, we must also know it for what it is and how it works. And we must stay out of the trap of feminine logic that argues that we should strive to be safe and comfortable. As men we are the sheep dogs who protect our families, communities and states from the wolves out there. We cannot give up the protector role for the couch and a video game. We have to stay fit, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually and as we age, we need to take an active role in passing these traits and qualities on to the men who are coming up behind us. Thus it has been for humans from the dawn if time and, I believe, thus it should proceed into the misty future. Men are the line between the success and failure of our societies. Thank you.

I agree with this video except for the first rule that you deem makes you a man. It truly makes me look at you skeptically! Great Job Ryan. I met someone the other day who said that they had no ambition in life. I thought he was kidding, but he wasn't. I think all of the traits listed are well articulated and important. I miss the days when "being a man" was associated with mental fortitude, high pain tolerance, doing hard things without appreciation, taking care of their family, keeping their word, and respecting women along with everything else you have mentioned. There is nothing wrong with a little pride in one's gender, frankly I would like to see a lot more of it. Carry on, I think I am going to go watch a John Wayne movie tonight just thinking about all this manliness.
