Dentist tips: wait 30 minutes after brushing to drink/eat anything (teeth are in fragile state and more susceptible); better to brush teeth before coffee to get rid of biofilm on teeth to help decrease staining; Brush your tongue; don't use mouthwash that has alcohol in in (we hate listerine); you can put toothpaste on floss to get that fluoride in between teeth where a lot of cavities form; after eating/drinking, swish with water. it will help neutralize the pH (help prevent cavities) and can help from staining; don't open things with your teeth :)

Kindergarten teacher tip: The best way to prepare your children for school is to make them do one thing each day that they don't want to do (clean dishes, take trash out, or other jobs that aren't fun). You would be amazed how many kids each year can't adjust/cope with school because they are expected to work on things they prefer not to do. Also, work on increasing their attention span. They should be able to sit and listen/focus on a story without seeing it on a screen.

I am an elementary Teacher Librarian. Probably everyone would say that kids should read at home because it will help them succeed in school (and life, in my opinion). But not so obvious: kids do what their caretakers do, so if you're bugging your kid to read while you're looking at your phone...that's what they'll want to do, too. Read books in front of and with your kids!
@UnpurrfectRobyn8 күн бұрын
As a parent I agree! We have read to and with our kids from day 1 and I am an avid reader myself. My kids know that mom reads EVERY SINGLE DAY. We also have a rule that they have to read to balance out screen time! We've made reading so normal in our house that there is rarely push back from either kid! (They're 7 and 10 now!)

Dr Sam!! Omg. Your point about retinol has absolutely helped me SO SO much!!! I only use tretinoin for anti-aging. And I can only tolerate .025% if I go any higher my skin reacts and turns red and all the things. So I’ve been “stuck” here for years. And I’ve always thought… man. I’m missing out on doubling or quadrupling the anti-aging benefits of the stronger formulas. It hasn’t given me anxiety but it’s made me a little disappointed for sure. Knowing that I don’t ever need to go up in strength to realize the full benefits for Tret for anti-aging makes me feel so incredibly better. Thank you so much for sharing this information, I can sit on .025% forever now and do so knowing I’m getting all the benefits I need. Ugh this just made my day ❤❤❤

You said “years” - how many and have you seen any positive results of using it for anti-aging purposes? Reason I ask is because I used it at a low dosage for about a year and my face never acclimated never calm down …it continuously peeled and stayed red/irritated, so I stopped.

Hi! It is so refreshing to hear a dermatologist dispel the myth that you can train your scalp to produce less oil! I wash my hair every 2-3 nights, and even by then, it is an oily mess. People constantly tell me to try this. I tell them I have, and that persisting with it did was make me incredibly itchy and uncomfortable all the time, get dandruff and look oily. Trying to persist had me super aware of how terrible it felt all the time. They tell me it's because I didn't do it right or that I didn't do it for long enough. 😂 It's good to know my scalp is just genetically oily, just like my face.

YES! I lost access to water in my house for a year, and could only wash my hair once a week when we could visit family, and my scalp was in HORRIBLE shape when we finally got water and could wash my hair regularly. I wash my hair every other day in the winter and every day in the summer, but my scalp is so much healthier.

Since you asked… as a therapist who works with high achieving people, that inner critical voice does not actually help you do better. There is no human performance research to support that driving people (or ourselves) in a harsh or negative way improves outcome or performance. The question is not is this voice helping me succeed, but how much more successful could I be without it.
@abbie_lpc12 күн бұрын
PS- if you are thinking that you only can get yourself to perform when you are under pressure, you might want to get evaluated for ADHD. Goes undiagnosed in a lot of smart high achieving women. Happy Friday!

I was told by a psychologist that being hard on yourself can actually make you accomplish less because it "satisfies" one's guilt: if you feel bad for not doing well, and then beat yourself up over it, your mind feels like the bad behavior has been appropriately punished, and can relax, thus cutting off that "live end" of ambition you had. It rings true for me, at least!

Dr Ellis a year ago I had one finger where the nail had stopped growing and it was getting a jagged edge,Dermatologist tested for fungus which was negative. Then I was told it was nail dystrophy, and just cover it up with nail polish. I thought that didn’t sound right went back to dermatologist he then took a biopsy and it was a melanoma under my nail. Needles to say my finger tip had to be amputated. This was not caused by sun damage,and they really don’t know except to say it was probably environmental. I guess I’m say all this to let people know to be persistent when you know something is not right.

I'm a dental hygienist, I see others have posted obvious to dental professionals, but here's a few more. -Wait 30 min after drinking coffee/eating to brush your teeth. PH raises in your mouth after eating /drinking. If you brush right after meals/coffee your brushing acid into your teeth. -Flosser picks are just as good as sting floss, water picks are great alternatives to flossing as well. -Baking soda and water solution can be a good alternative to mouthwash. Neutralizes the pH in your mouth. Really great for dry mouth.

Treat the job posting and your resume as a question and answer. Some people think it’s unnatural to write or say “I have exp in maintaining client relationships” when the posting literally says “we’re looking for some who has maintained client relationships” but that’s how you get hired! I’m an esthetician and I know this is kind of your zone more than mine (which is why I adore your content) and a couple things people always seem to struggle with is picking acne or ingrown hairs. This leads to scarring or even more post inflammatory pigmentation. Also thinking they only need to wear spf when they’re going to be outside for prolonged periods or at the beach. Also you don’t have to pay a crazy expensive amount of money for skincare, hence why I use dermatologist prescriptions and prequel and a variety of other inexpensive products. Ps chemical peels are the most effective tools we have as estheticians and people shouldn’t be so scared of them bc of the greenwashing people have made people afraid of chemicals and since we don’t do medical peels often people don’t even peel, but still get results!

Dr. Sam - I have always been exceptionally sensitive to sunscreen. For decades I just wore hats and long sleeves to protect my skin. Thankfully, modern sunscreens are less irritating, however I still have some reaction. What I do is apply a thin layer of Vaseline to my face after my skin care routine, then give it at least half an hour before applying sunscreen. That has really helped reduce irritation to almost 0. Is that OK? Or, am I reducing the sunscreens effectiveness?
