I know that Shelby raced the 289 cobras at a 8,000 RPM red line reliably....I wonder how high this stroker engine could reliably rev to.... Thanks for sharing this awesome video- great job on this build!!!

Nice job! 289s are awesome. Many records set and firsts done with the SBF 289. Some gearheads don't have a clue how badass the 289 can be. Just read about all the accomplishments in racing and that was with the old technology back in the day. I'm a Ford man and historian on the subject so I'm know what I'm talking about. Also know several others that have and run engines like this with over 500HP. Not talking down on other manufacturers but give credit where credit is due. Shelby American completely dominated in the USA in A and B production class (Cobras and Mustang) and went on to destroy Ferraris reputation in Europe with the Cobra Daytona Coupes. All 289s. This was before the successful Ford GT40 program.

You are correct, the 8 stack looks badass on any engine. I just purchased a Corvette with a 383 stroker with a Jim Inglese 48 IDF 8 stack and they get a lot of attention at car cruises. The problem I am having is they are running really rich. I got a hold of Jim and told him what jets were in it and he said they are the correct jets and told me what timing to set it up at. The car sat for the past 4 years and I'm thinking the carbs need cleaned which I am in the process of doing. I wish someone would do a video of how to setup and the proper way to balance the 8 stack system. Would love to find someone in the Pittsburgh PA area that works on this type of system.

There's a video of a British guy tuning them. There's a special vacuum gauge you use to balance between the carbs. It isn't complicated, just time-consuming since you have to go back and forth several times adjusting the screws.

@@johnterpack3940 I believe the tool you are talking about is a SYNCHROMETER. I bought one and it was very helpful. I also did a rebuild on the carbs and they were very dirty. I also went to smaller jets which helped. It now runs a lot better.

Color me sceptical on a 336ci street engine that exceeds 500hp? That is over 1.5 hp per cube in a 91 octane smaaall block, even in a very light car. I ain't saying it is not possible, it would take dyno runs to convert me and neither the owner or you give a rats ass what I think. Rock on.

agree, he just pull's numbers out of the air, calculated hp is just guessing. also that engine IS NOT finely tuned. cylinders 2,3,4,6,7 & 8 are lean as indicated by how blue the headers are

I would have really seen this built with a sidedraft manifold...it would have been so cool, you don't see one of them often... thanks for the build in any case...and the first cylinder is running too rich
