This is EXACTLY how the hobby and life in general should go. You passed on knowledge to those guys and in turn, you can tell made them so grateful that their creation came to life in front of them and was able to load it up in one piece and take it home. Thank you for giving them your time. Everyone is quick to jump when Cleetus or other big name youtube stars need/want something. Its another thing to help these average paying Joes and take time with them. In todays world, it seems engine shops have no time to help the average guys out, the guys paying full retail, not asking for a discount and will promote the heck out of you vs. the handout guys claiming they will until you stop giving them free stuff. Thank you for finding a balance in between.

Super cool build , was disappointed a bit , some more camshaft and more carb , like a 1000cfm and we would see 800 bhp easy from a 545. But I get it they’re happy with what they wanted to do with it ! And that’s all that matters. Super cool that Steve decided to vid this !
@bobroberts2371
@bobroberts2371 Жыл бұрын
Except with those changes , the motor would be a real disappointment to drive on the street. Look at some cam dyno comparison vids on the Richard Holdener channel. Once you get past a certain point any power you gain at high RPM is lost on the bottom. Think about it, big cam motors don't make enough power to over come engine friction at 600 RPM where as a stock motor can idle at 600 or lower.
@jaywilliams2710
@jaywilliams2710 Жыл бұрын
Their 545 in that markV will run easy mid to low 11s on drag radials easy with a 3.25 or 3.5 gear and pull like a train even at 1/2 throttle, hoping they’ve got enough trans, ds, diff and axles between that 700lbft and that 4600lbs… For the 800hp build, you just add converter and a little gear to suit the cam, and I don’t think “disappointed” would ever be in your vocabulary given that this is still a 4.5” stroke and 545ci. The real kicker is that the Kaase heads have a great chamber and would probably take 11.5:1 on 93 with 270deg+ at .050. Peak hp might be in the low 6000’s but would need a lot more carb, a LOT..
@bobroberts2371
@bobroberts2371 Жыл бұрын
@@jaywilliams2710 Will the 800 HP variant idle and smoothly pull from 600 RPM?
@jaywilliams2710
@jaywilliams2710 Жыл бұрын
@@bobroberts2371 why would a person spend 14k on a 545 with SCJ heads for a 600 RPM glass smooth idle when a stock 460 does that? I mean, cleaned up stock heads, 215-220 degree cam, and an S475 on a stock block will do 600/700 on 93 easy…. Back to your question. 800hp N/A will idle well enough with the right carb and tuning or fi, and it’ll pull from its “means business”900-1000 rpm idle till the converter stalls at 3500 well enough to rearrange your organs, even in a heavy car.

If they get a taller air filter element plus a filtered lid I think they would gain back at least half the horsepower loss. Also, I would like to say I really appreciate how Steve treats people a great example.!
@boydw1
@boydw1 Жыл бұрын
Maybe, but watching some dyno comparisons of different air filters, results aren't always as you might anticipate. Some of the tall filters even did a little worse that the best of the regular height ones. The way the airflow is shaped into the carb seems to be just as important as the filter area.
@jesusisalive3227
@jesusisalive3227 Жыл бұрын
I would get one of the filter lids. I bet they would recover most of the power.
@boydw1
@boydw1 Жыл бұрын
@@jesusisalive3227 In the dyno test I'm referring to, the filter lids actually did worse. Hard to say why - I suspect it could have something to do with turbulence & velocity of the airflow.
@jesusisalive3227
@jesusisalive3227 Жыл бұрын
@@boydw1 You should watch the engine masters episode where they test a number of filters. Any filter that directed the air down had way less power loss.
