This is not a meditation on death, but a meditation on immortality. She focuses on the soul and reincarnation (literal immortality) as well as on the things and circumstances the person leaves behind (their legacy or “symbolic immortality”); presenting, on top of that, an idealized version of these events (beautifully planned and satisfactory planetary exit, absence of pain, alluring visions, favorable reincarnation etc). This is all based on the (quite understandable) desire to escape from the fear and meaninglessness - the mysterious terror a true meditation on death generates. I tried it a few months ago, simply trying to imagine my own lifeless body (and a bit later that of my mother). That’s it. No reincarnation stories, no ideal legacy. Just the lifeless body. Of course, since I’m young and healthy, I had, to make it realistic in my mind, think of something like an accident that would cause my death. With my mom it was natural causes. I only did it for a few minutes, but the result was that for the next few days I had ego reactions and felt unpleasantly emotional. It confirmed the direct relationship that the ego has with it’s antithesis (death). I think this meditation can be productive, but only if one has been doing sufficient “normal” breath-focused meditation, as well as living a mindful, moral life. I intend to try the meditation again when I bring my life up to these standards.

My problem is I m born in.egomaniac family that always tried to oppress me I lived a destitute life in brahmakumaris for year then in exile but I didn't beg anything from society or people, but still some how my family & all others tried to came close turning too sadistic & playing egomaniac melodramas I can't take this , I already suffered from severe anxiety/ depression in the past .. Osho is my breath, i badly want to relieve myself from this current life trap & end all my karmic connection with this society , if I have next life I want to take birth in couple who are highly consciousness , preferably Osho 's who can give me all love for what i am & nurture my attributes I can live with such elite people without struggling with substandard frequency. Can I make my dream life possible ?!

Here is a wonderful resource on how to forgive for YOURSELF and recognize that you too may have been egomaniacal/sadistic, etc. in a previous life, neutralize the emotional response and embrace all outcomes. Dear Friend, it was called by Buddha or from Buddha. It is a natural science and you can not unfollow that. You should remember there are only 3 principals / rules that has been designed by Lord Buddha. These rules are: A death is certain The Lord of death is unstoppable Life leaks away continually There is not enough time to pratice The time of death is uncertain No telling when it will happen No telling how it will happen The body is Fragile Only Dharma can help when you die Wealth cannot help Friends and family cannot help Your body cannot help

Answer: Once I had a similar question. What I have found out so far is -- In the Theravada tradition, based on many suttas in Tipitaka, these formula of Maraṇasati first appears in the Buddhaghosa's Path of Purification (Visuddhimagga, c. 5th century), Chapter 8 as Recollection of Death. It is commonly practiced, my teacher's said, as one of 'Four Protective Meditations', for it protects you from wasting your life on unimportant things or trivial matters in this life. Also, I have seen them on the Internet as Atisha (11th century)'s Nine Points of Contemplation on death in the Tibetan Gelug tradition. (e.g. Tibetan Tradition of Mental Development, Chapter 4 Death Awareness )

I would like to suggest to listen to the video at least seven times (this is the amount that the mind needs to properly grasp the information) Then continue to listen to it and follow the visualisation. The more familiar, the stronger the effect. Doing this meditation for many times, plants the seeds inside of your mind so that you will be able to remember the information at the moment of death. You then will not be overwhelmed by all the phenomena experienced during the death process.

From a Western atheistic perspective, this Buddhist way of meditating your death feels a bit like cheating. I don't believe in rebirth so the last part doesn't make sense to me. And if you have born into Buddhist culture and you really believe in rebirth you got this easy :D I also didn't have a refuge in my mind while doing this meditation or Boddhicita (sp.?). Previously when I meditated about death I used to get almost a panic attack and figuratively felt the Grim Reaper coming to get me, like absolute terror, but not this time.

Acording to science, nothing in the universe can be destroyed or created, it just can be transformed. I study chemistry and my girlfriend studies biology, we are made of molecules that are made of atoms that did not have life or awarness, yet that molecules seems that know what they are doing in every single cell in your body, like if they were conscious. Life can not be created or destroyed it just can be transformed.

At what point will you want to think about it? Are you going to a job interview completely oblivious of what will be expected of you and with no skills or training? No. No. I studied for 4 years and researched the company and learned about the interview process and even practiced answering the questions they might ask, what the company needs and what the interviewer will be expecting. I bought new clothes and a car so I can impress my boss, coworkers and get a raise soon! But I don’t want to even think about my graduation from life. That is too scary because I don’t understand the first thing about it. Nor do I want to. So I’ll ignore it until I have no choice, then die in fear, pain and confusion. Same as my loved ones but they’ll have many more years of suffering left. I missed the chance to show them how to die peacefully.
