What's that like? To finally be given the chance to live? Does it come with fear? Or are you only alive in those moments without fear? I do not envy your current state of virtue, I do however find myself curious of what life is like through your eyes. Bless you and may your days be wonderful.

hi Susan yes illness of all kinds does create a shock to the system. i also did receive a diagnosis of cancer. not the worst kind thankfully. i recovered with intervention ... it makes you look at things differently and face the shocking fact that you are mortal ... but with discovering yourself as the Self (please check out the advaita and ramana maharshi playlists ) then things are seen rather differently from a new perspective. the body is a mental projection - hard to stomach when in pain - but it gets better the more you abide as the self... the i am the body thought losing its verility the world being seen as a dream ... i dont fear death or physical pain anymore .. im in pain now from something else ... this is the nature of the body it can ge sick ... the only fear i have is not to not fully realise Self ... be as I AM fully before the body passes.. else i have to return to this wretched planet lol ... a beautiful place at ties also but ... this body can just feel like drag to haul around if you know what i mean ... i will be happy to be rid of it ,,, and i f i am born again ... whatever was realisef won't be lost im sure of that ...

My daughter passed away recently from a large Tumor in abdomen that spread to lungs and I cannot tell you how that pain and suffering changed everything. She spoke very strong words I recorded right before she transcended saying she is happy to die and to Not fear death it is just darkness, ignorance from conditioned minds and definitions we believe to be but are not. It has helped me tremendously and also being connected to these wonderful beings, Namaste beloved 😌🙏🏻👑

As I am in the grips of illness and have made it part of my practice to listen to these teachings of the greatest importance. Your presentation of these teachings to us, to inspire and remind us, as community and fellow travelers, is an oasis. I am so blessed to have the great fortune to have access to these. Even as a teenager, I wanted to remember death at all times. My wishes for all of you to be able to be one with your practices and know deep peace.

This whole playlist (ilness, death and dying etc) is so very helpful. . I continue to recommend this for even the slightest discomfort or unhappiness. You don't need to wait until you're in serious physical or mental pain to benefit from this! . Try using this playlist next time you feel unsatisfied in any way! . I speak from experience. This works for strong pain and anxiety but it works just as well for what we would label "mild irritation" or even "boredom". ..I wish you COMPLETE happiness and satisfaction.

Bhikkhus, a man would throw into the ocean a plough share with a single hole in it. Then with the eastern winds it would be carried west and with the western windscarried east. With the northern winds it would be carried south and with the southern winds carried north. Then there is a blind turtle in the depths of the ocean and it comes up to the surface after the lapse of a hundred years. Bhikkhus this turtle with one eye to see would he put his neck in the plough share and yoke it to the hole to see light?’ ‘Venerable sir, it would happen after the lapse of a very long time.’ ‘Bhikkhus, it is more likely that the blind turtle would put his neck in the plough share and yoke the eye to the hole to see light rather than the fool once fallen to hell would gain humanity -lord buddha-

This is so timely. My beloved first Dhamma teacher, Phra Khantipalo, who can be said to have brought Theravadin Buddhism to Australia, passed away just over a week ago after a long illness. Watching his Commemorative Service online yesterday, i felt a deep reconnection with the Dhamma he taught & immense gratitude for his Noble Friendship. This posting is very much in line with that, so thank you. Laurence Khantipalo was undoubtedly a Bodhisattva unrecognised by some but loved, acknowledged & revered by others. May the Buddhas accompany him on his current journey & sing his praises, & may he return to this realm again soon for the benefit of all sentient beings. Thank you dear Teacher. Your passing has rekindled the precious Dhamma in me. The incomparable forest of Wat Buddha Dhamma reigns inside, 🙏💙🌈

Yes, I was thinking about you during this time Prema and your deep and long connection with him. He is very much in our hearts and minds here at Santi Monastery and we have been chanting for him each day. I read his old article "The Reluctant Theravadin" and loved it! It totally resonated with me and though I personally never met Phra Khantipalo, I feel as if I've known him for a long time. A dear Dhamma treasure for sure. Much love 💜💙💚

@@SamaneriJayasara Ah Ayya, i can't tell you how joyous i feel that you are chanting for him there at Santi Monastery. Bless you all. He took on the sufferings of others, including mine, indifferent to the world's judgement, which was often harsh. His loyalty, steadfastness & compassion were immense. Often spoken of for his scholarliness, it was his great heart that defined him for me. I feel honoured to have come under his guidance & protection, & will love this Great Being until Full Realisation. Thank you for your kind thoughts, 💜 🌌 🌈 🙏

Thank you. Very powerful. Hearing these words can make the mind (or maybe a better term might be "attention") withdraw from external objects of interest, whether so-called negative or positive, and become still and disinterested in the importance of things pertaining to the so-called "person" or "personing". edit: Had to check to see what the correct term is... I guess "upekkhā" is the correct term in Pali.

This is BEAUTIFUL! Appreciated, as always. "WHAT IS ANGUISH? "A teenager asked me this difficult question. "Much depends on the person suffering from anguish. Some people use this word freely, as if anguish somehow improved their status: that in itself is yet another form of anguish. Anguish can also be having no hope in hope. Or conforming without resignation. Or refusing to confess even to oneself. Or never being oneself, should one ever know oneself. Anguish can be the misery of being alive. It can also be not having the courage to suffer anguish - and escape is yet another form of anguish. But anguish is part of life: all that lives, simply by being alive tends to recoil. "This same teenager asked me: Don’t you find there is a frightening emptiness in everything? "Yes, there is. Meanwhile one waits for the heart to understand."-- from Selected Cronicas by Clarice Lispector

Anguish is fear... Fear is an error of thought. Theres only one trouble and that is the one of mistaken identity. Seek refuge in the heart, where all anguish melts in the certainty of loving kindness, the true frequency of our soul.

" seeing emptiness. Have compassion!". The timeless space itself, see it light up in grey/blue/black/silver ... And recognize the bliss of the wisdom of great perfection... Notice how the space feels adequate to carry ALL the pain, sadness, fear, anger or lonliness... To just let it be, give it space... To remain or subside... It doesnt matter.... Just breathe through it all... True joy can not arise without there being peace first, total acceptance of how one is ... And knowing we will emerge as a new being the next moment...

I remember thinking about death often when i was about 5 or 6 Years old....jeeez, did it scare me first. But then questions came.....what will really die...what about me myself what about the personality what about that thing called soul etc...then - coz of my wild lifestyle as a biker, I met death...directly.....quite a few near death experiences.....and every single time it felt like....going home...not scary at all. I was even disappointed not to die...since then, death lost his scariness to me...if it is time, I will totally embrace it....going home....

Someone please point me in the direction of an answer to this question, any tradition will do, as I do not understand. On one hand, all things are impermanent, the psycho-physical self and life are impermanent. On the other hand, there is only the absolute, dharmakaya, God, the One, "Awareness", that is all. There is no individual identity left within the absolute. The absolute of the absolute is "empty" (though it emanates everything). Therefore, what is the spiritual goal? What entity is left outside the body to realise anything at all? How can one presume, that at death identity remains, because all hardcore teachings say there is no fundamental identity at all. So what is the goal? Ultimate death so that only the absolute is left with no identity to realise it? Isn't that annihilation, what's the point? If not, if the spiritual truth is something else, then something remains after death and into eternity, what is that? Something that exists? Isn't that a contradiction with impermanence and fundamental emptiness? Buddha seems to be denying both the existence of the psycho-physical self (I don't disagree) and the fundamental annihilation of a person's "being" (yet that being is really just the absolute manifesting). This is the mysterium of the middle way. There can't be any point to all of these teachings fundamentally (beyond living a "good" life) other than an acceptance of some form of awareness after death. Yet if you dig into it enough, you'll find that reincarnation is not a teaching of the Buddha and many mystical faiths state that in the end, there is only God and its energies.
@SamaneriJayasara3 жыл бұрын
That's right - there is only That. But no words can resolve it for us or take us there - it can only be through direct realisation - which is more an intuitive awakening than an intellectual grasp. After that, all questions will cease. Trying to figure this out through logic and reason will only lead to frustration, insanity, or delusion. It does take a leap of faith and trust in being willing to do what all the Master's are encouraging us to do and that is to let go and die to all that is 'known', and all that we think we know. We need to be willing to surrender and be silent and abide in full awareness and right mindfulness - trusting that the wisdom (and understanding to all your questions) will arise only when the fruit is ripe - you cannot make it happen - because there is no 'you' to make any of this realisation happen or resolve your understanding about the questions of life and death. However, I do love Ajahn Chah's pointing in relation to all this. He said: "Those who talk about birth and death are speaking the language of ignorant children." The only goal is to realise for ourselves the profundity of what he is pointing to here. Then we are totally free! Hope some of this helps to ease the confusion.

@@SamaneriJayasara Thanks Samaneri. I have that faith. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
@MoMagha3 жыл бұрын
Yes Ramana said the same thing. Who is it that who suffers and who is it that dies? When we look for this seemingly substantial entity, there is no one there and there never was anyone and there never will be an independent entity who can lay claim to this independence in an absolute sense. In relative sense yes one can say I am separate but this separation is time bound and hence subject to impermanence in which case it is not real anyway. So from that perspective of what is real even reincarnation is insubstantial as there is no independent entity that reincarnates although reincarnation can be seen as dependent conditions once again giving rise to an illusory self that wants to establish some semblance of continuity as in bringing back some stored memory which is again insubstantial. So rest in what is, no need for effort to get somewhere😊

The goal is yoga “union” just do the practices and ask questions later, a rational logical mind will never ever know truth and will only cause you confusion and frustration. Practice right away , tic tok
