I am 64. After covid lockdown, friends were surprised to see me looking very elegant. There were few things that covid lockdown did to me were lose weight, change hair style, and watched videos like this. There were no hairdressers so, I cut my hair. The result is fantastic. Videos like yours helped me a lot. I kept my elegant look. Thanks to you.

You make it sound so simple 😊I’m going to keep trying. At almost 67 it’s difficult to know what to wear and not look like your trying too hard or to not look frumpy. Also love your makeup. So tired of seeing all the influencers with so much makeup and overdone eyebrows/eyelashes.

Same age and yes, finding that balance between trying too hard and frumpy is my challenge as well. I like the 80/20 rule Frédérique suggested; my own approach is similar as I like to feel like I have one piece a bit more edgy with my classics.

Try to spend most of your money on basics that actually fit your lifestyle. We all have our fantasy lives, but your clothes should fit your real life. Make a list of clothes you wear on a day to day basis. Now brainstorm to see how you would want to change that. Tiptoe in that direction by buying a couple of items. See if they work for you and fit into your lifestyle and wardrobe. Think about upcoming events. Try to get separates you can rewear often to wear for your events.

I am 61 (almost 62) and have cared for my skin since I was 18. Occasionally I take off my glasses during a conversation and get comments like "how do you make your skin glow like that? How come you don't have any wrinkles?!" That's a confidence booster. I like doing my hair, wearing some make up and always earrings every day. If I realize I forgot to put on earrings for some reason I feel naked! But the whole shoes thing is an issue. I have osteoarthritis in my feet which is disabling sometimes. I have the most support and comfort in specific sneakers. So I keep my style simple and casual so the shoes don't look out of place. Thank you for your videos. I like your genuineness and how your personality shines through.

My northern French grandmother would make my sister, cousin and I walk around her large house with 3 books on our heads, and even going through doors we could not let the books fall. If we did we would have to do it all again until it was perfect. We all ended up with perfect posture. Though working many hours on the computer all day I may need to try that again. Even if you have no wealth or education you can walk amongst kings with a good posture.
@ms.andreeasstorytime15412 жыл бұрын
My father who always impressed his friends and acquaintances with his impecable manners taught me how to control my posture by challenging me to walk with books on my head. The other thing he said: your hair has to have movement, it shouldn’t be stiff around your head like a helmet. So I totally agree with Frédérique.

My “tip” for,looking “put together “ is to remember that your outerwear should always be considered when getting dressed for the day - by this I mean that your coat (when wearing one) and scarf, hat, etc should coordinate with whatever you are wearing underneath, as often what’s underneath will be seen at the same time. Your coat should be a part of the total look.
@angeliquearchossolhi7042 Жыл бұрын
My friends always comment on all my coats! I buy a couple every year, mostly in classic styles and always in the best fabric that I can afford. It makes such a difference. If I could have only three I would choose a classic trench , a good black wool coat and a standout color ( whetever is your personal best) . It makes a huge difference in the way you carry yourself. P.S. you can find great quality coats at very decent prices on Poshmark. It doesn't have to cost a fortune. If they are a little outdated you can hem it or change the buttons.

When I was in Paris,we stayed 8days, stayed in an apt, and walked every where, or took the subway. We saw thousands of people and I was surprised on what they wore. Mostly jeans , t shirt or white top with sneakers. I was expecting more dressy outfits. I personally dress nice every day living in the states. On vacation I wore silk skirts and tops with flat comfortable dress shoes.

Good morning. Such excellent advice, Frédérique, and well taken by an 80 year old. There were 3 stand outs for me. First, cleansing your face morning and night. Such good advice, and something I have been preaching to my granddaughter since she was very young. Second, sunscreen. In my youth, there was not sunscreen available with high SPF and what was available washed off with the first water contact. As an ocean lover in my younger years, and a South Florida lady now, I am paying for this lack of protection. And third, posture. 15 years ago, I fractured my back and it was not diagnosed. Now I am bent forward at about a 25 degree angle. So no matter what I wear and how chic it is, my posture destroys any look. What they say about not appreciating something until it is gone, is so true; so to me good posture is on a par with cleanliness about my person. Thanks again, you are such a delightful person; you make your followers feel valued.

Your videos are always a pleasure to watch. You talking about keeping your hair well-groomed,I remembered a scene yesterday. I was at sephora and I smelled dirty hair from a girl next to me. I thought at the time: Please wash your hair first, before buying makeup. A woman can be super well dressed and if her hair is poorly maintained or dirty it destroys her image.

My wonderful friend Dana who was my regular hairdresser for many years told me, “Even when you dress casual you look dressed up.” One of the kindest compliments I’ve ever received. Credit should go to attention to detail. The right makeup look and appropriate accessories for the outfit and occasion, clothes in impeccable condition (even if they’re t-shirt and shorts) and the right shoes in good repair, are all important to looking polished. One thing about shoes. They do have to be comfortable. If you’re in agony in your shoes, it won’t matter that your makeup and clothes and jewelry are beautiful. The beauty won’t translate through the painful shoes. I used to sell shoes at a high-end department store and I promise there are cute shoes that are also comfortable!

I’m 62 and don’t have any wrinkles or visible aging yet, most people don’t believe I’m not in my late 40s. I’ve never used any skincare products, except for moisturizing, high SPF sunscreen every single day since my early 20s and before that, I never purposefully tanned. After my first field season as a young geologist, I realized that my skin wasn’t going to last unprotected, and I was only doing my face, so I had a darker, reddish V on my upper chest and neck from the openings of my shirts. Since then, I’ve always applied sunscreen, every day year-round, to my neck and upper chest, as well as my face, and any other parts of my body that might catch any sun, like feet, arms or shoulders. Most women my age have leathery, spotted, wrinkled décolletages, it’s such a mark of aging. The skin there is super-thin and delicate, so it needs extra protection. My only regret is that I didn’t start using sunscreen as a child and teen, but it really wasn’t around until the late 1970s, maybe (I turned 20 in 1980). Also, I got one vicious sunburn accidentally when I fell asleep for hours in the sun, it was that time of month and I just dozed off. Most of the sun damage I do have is from that. Dermatologists always say it’s the cumulative daily exposure that’s most important, as well as not deliberate tanning, and that every sunburn dramatically increases the chance of skin cancer. My Dad’s always having to have his squamous cell skin cancers removed, I’m trying to prevent that, too, they have had to make some very deep, disfiguring surgeries. I’m always trying convince teens and young women to start using SPF daily, with some success. Some complain about it’s “greasiness” causing acne, so I recommend non-comedogenic ones, like Oil of Olay daily (something like that), which I’ve used for years. In winter I use a minimal SPF, unless going out for my walks, etc. A little sun on the body is good to keep Vitamin D levels up, so I let my legs tan a little. But, light from the sun is radiation and it does break down skin tissue.

Frederique you made me remember my parents,, truly good advice. WWE all need this advice you gave. My mother said clean clothes and shoes, nothing torn, no threads out, stained, nor wrinkled no matter if you are rich or poor. My father said clean and polish shoes every week. I change the pillowcase everything I wash my hair. By the way you look like your glowing, so nice.

Aaaaa the dirty ponytail for days felt too personal for me 😂 I keep telling myself that I’m “training” my hair so I can wash it less frequently but… one of these days I’m going to admit to myself two and a half years of washing my hair less frequently didn’t do anything. My hair gets oily just as quickly as it used to before Covid and the luxury of working from home. Years ago I made a rule for myself: when in doubt - wash it. That’s about hair again. Too many times I looked at myself in the mirror in the morning assessing if my hair is good enough for another day. And after deciding it was, too many times I regretted it later in the day.

I really love your channel. You encourage women to stick to some basic style rules but also to remember that we are unique and have our own tastes, likes and dislikes. Some French stylist I’ve looked at have said things like you should only wear classic stud earrings in classic shapes, but I noticed in one of your videos that your earrings were like little safety pins. Still understated and classy but showing your fun nature. Also one stylist said only shoes in neutral colours, but I loved one of your videos where you added a pop of colour to an outfit by wearing turquoise shoes. Great. I didn’t want to end up looking boring by adopting French chic dressing hints, that was my worry, but now I can see that you don’t have to be dull and boring to be classy and chic. Thank you so much xx

Always love your videos Frederique! I look forward to watching every one of them. I think I should’ve been raised in Europe as I’ve loved the style and fashion sense of most European women since I was a teen- lol I’m 57 now 😂 I love going to Europe and watching women and men alike going about their day, for the most part they are put together and usually have some tension in their overall look. And the shopping is divine ❤ The North American culture of fashion is mostly relaxed and casual, with many women, young and old alike, not paying attention to even the smallest details that you’ve highlighted in this video. You are so right, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to look chic, smart, or expensive, you just have to pay attention to the small details that add up to a great overall look and feel 😌 👗 👜 👠 🧥 👄 💇♀️

Early in my career, I met two young career ladies, like me but French, while having lunch at a restaurant. I had enough college French in those days to have a brief conversation with them. I still remember how fabulous they looked with their chic styling, and fresh, natural-looking makeup and hair. They were wearing simple, high-quality (probably wool gabardine) solid color, tailored dresses, with great, minimal accessories, one had a silk scarf on. They weren’t wearing black, but color, one dress was a beautiful, natural grass green color, no 80s neon in sight. I can’t remember their shoes, but I don’t think they were the pointy-toe stilettos some women were torturing themselves with in the 80s because I always noticed those and wondered how they could walk in them. I wouldn’t call either of these beautiful, but they looked like they were, so everyone there, male or female, obviously admired them, not just me. It’s been 40 years and I still have that French chic impression from them. I think they were just great at looking their best, but without too much effort, and everything they wore was very high-quality, simple and restrained, the three essentials of elegance, to me at least.

Frederique, I enjoy your videos SO much! I have some questions for you. 1. How do you get your teeth so white? Do you use a blue light or whitening strips or something else? 2. A coworker told me about her "pore sucker" to condition her face. These are pore vacuums. Do you have any experience with these? And facial steamers? 3. I LOVE The Ina Silver necklace you are wearing. However, they only make it in a 16" and some of us need an 18". 4. Re: Sheets. I LOVE my Indian long staple cotton sheets that I got from California Design Den. I am sure there are other brands that are good, but after getting these, I would never get polyester sheets again. They are 600 threads per inch. 5. I went to water aerobics for two hours at the YMCA. It is SO much fun! Do you have a recommendation for swimsuits that are really flattering and supportive of your bust. Thanks, and Happy New Year!!!

Dear Frederique, I so wish that I could meet you! You’re my style icon. I love your videos. Sometimes I lack self-confidence and I’m never sure what my style is!! I’d love it if you could see my wardrobe, make-up etc. to help me clear the wheat from the chaff so that I could streamline it all. I’m not very good at throwing things away but I like to think I do buy stylish pieces most of the time. I know I should have more confidence in myself but I bother too much about what others think of me! I know I need to stop doing that as, most of the time, it’s just because people are jealous! I need to walk with my head up high and not be bothered by other people’s thoughts/comments but putting that into permanent practice is difficult for me. Absolutely love your channel - you’re such a beautiful person inside and out xxxx❤

Geometric-print, like stripes, dots, etc., scarves can look much more current than florals, Toteme has some great ones when you’re ready to invest in one. I do wear all kinds of silk scarves, but they’ve always been part of my personal style for 40 years, since my early 20s, and now I don’t much care if I look “Old Lady”, because I nearly am one at age 62. I suggest trying an inexpensive scarf with a simple stripe for an outfit or two, once the compliments start rolling in, they might feel more “you”, but if not, don’t force it. Every single time I wear a scarf, I get multiple compliments from strangers on my outfit. I needed a bit of courage to wear them at first, but I immediately began to feel wonderful in them, so I was very glad I did try them! Marie-Anne LeCouer, another fabulous French YT stylist, just put out a vid on ways to wear them, as did Shopping on Champagne (American, but also great). I think the secret is not to over over-stress or fuss with them, just throw one on and tie it!🙂

In February I’m going to Belize for a week but I will be coming from a very snowy, cold place! I know you have done a few 7 day suitcase videos, but can you do one specifically for a tropical trip with some tips for what to wear on the plane? Or if you already have it a link? Adore you!

I use La Roche Posay foundation because it has sun factor 50 and I do a lot of gardening.

My best tip for looking polished is to dress appropriately for the occasion and the circumstances. I consult my calendar each day to see what I have planned. If I know I will be walking a lot, I will need to choose comfortable flat shoes or boots. If I need to carry a lot, I will need to choose a larger handbag or tote bag. Next, I think about where I'm going, who I will be seeing, what I will be doing, the, weather forecast, and my mood. Only then do I begin to build my outfit. Preparing for the occasion and circumstances is what gives me my savoir faire and what makes me feel comfortable, confident, appropriate and yes, polished.

I always check my clothes for loose threads, pilling etc. But to "flog a dead horse"...any outfit will be spoilt by the wrong underwear.

I have chronic illness and washing my hair is difficult, showering especially in a flare of symptoms. I'm sure your channel has a high quantity of people who have chronic illness but still try their best to keep their style.....but it's hard. Xxx

I have the same issue, my goal for today is to wash my hair! It’s been a week, but I couldn’t raise my arm, the usual problem. I used to always wash it daily, even though it was waist-length, now twice a week is a big accomplishment. I used to say “squeaky-clean, shiny hair is the best accessory”. I even think about setting up a regular, weekly or twice-weekly shampoo and blow-dry appointment, but my ears, neck, etc., don’t feel as clean that way as in showering and budget is a problem. Using the sink doesn’t work for me, too many problems. I do wash my body every day in the shower or tub, of course.🙂

French women don’t eat sugar? France is world renowned for its pastries, chocolate, and breads. This whole cliché of the perfect French woman usually refers to the more affluent women of Paris. The more affluent women of Manhattan, New York are also slimmer and considered more fashionable. However, in the French region of Nord-Pas-de-Calais, 20.5% of the population is obese. Some of these cliches and stereotypes only serve to make less affluent French women and those of other cultures feel inferior. An entire population of women cannot be fashionable and skinny. Impossible standards of beauty. Still love ❤the channel. Wonderful fashion ideas.

On point, diet is important in keeping a gorgeous skin. I fast and only eat healthy, less starchy food. I avoid sugar easy coz am used to it.
