@@BMWDoctor happy belated holidays. I'm in the states. I hope you are able to open up your membership or do a last one live stream if the membership coming online is offset a little. I am trying to upgrade my beautiful e34 and trying to find out what to check with an engine and transmission out of the car in totality. I don't mind paying for your time or waiting, but I will be planning to look at the engine this week. I will attempt a compression test with a starter bypass, boroscope look in cylinders and throttle plate, check the leaks (it's been sitting and I expect it to need several replacements, I just want to see if I need to replace the head or just some minor things or any of the above. Idk what to expect, but I know some basics and will check some gaskets and maybe test resistors on the common sensors. He wants 600 for the engine and manual transmission, he pulled it because it had no power at higher rpm and maybe clutch disc or slipping. It is a 2009 328i

I’ve got a 2009 E64 with a N53B30 engine and it’s started to lose oil for first time and engine is making some funny sounds. It’s only got 40k on clock and had full BMW service up till now. Want to try and diagnose what could be causing leak and noise issues myself rather than risk BMW taking me round houses and charging me a fortune on diagnosis. So looking for your help here. To right mate that’s what I mean yet a garage will say 2k for a engine change and why you even changing the engine what the hell as a owner did you do to need a new engine clearly whoever blows there engine shouldn’t deserve to even own a bmw if they managed to blow it up lack of maintenance is the only cause for this !!!! Mate to be honest the blue performance use the ad blue system which is cleaner that’s why as it kills the nitrogen oxide and is one of the cleanest diesels ever produced BUT it doesn’t come without its problem and more expensive issues then you could ever think of diesels have becomes very very complicated as they have fitted more and more sensors to keep up with emissions standards and to keep diesel in the go by the government and also to make as cheap as possible road tax to compare to competition out there I would avoid it if you can make and try and opt for a petrol model these days petrol BMWs are getting as good MPG as diesel

No mate you cannot repair the module once they been crashed they store crash data inside any of the modules they have fired and I can remove the crash data but it’s not cheap

Great advice. The n52 seems to have had a bad reputation. You make it sound to be a much better engine. In Canada the n54 is considered a very bad engine. Great horse power but very expensive to maintain.

mate to be fair ALL are reliable engines mate I think its to do with the climate change how these engines are affected in some countries different to others like here we dont get half the problems the usa get with N52 and I believe thats the same with N54 here people LOVE that engine and its ultra reliable as I said before mate in the usa the Chinese part market does not help keep these cars reliable

The amount of power you can get out of an N54 for the cost is hard to find elsewhere.
