Every word is rock solid advice guys! Take your time and get to know the land in all its seasons and weathers is my number one recommendation too. 16 years into the off-grid life now. I started off here as a single mother with 3 children. Now I'm a pensioner with grandkids. No idea how the f*ck that happened. Still fit as a fiddle and loving every minute. And still building the house ... 😆 About the only things I'd add are ... whatever you figure your budget and timescales will be to complete any major project, double (at least) the budget and triple the timescales. Also (because it works really well for me ... though you may be different) I developed visualisation as my superpower and the best tool in my toolbox. I work every step of major projects out in my head beforehand and then live with it in my head a while, tinkering with it as it comes to me. (I sometimes use Sketchup or some other 3D modelling software to help the visualisation process along or to communicate ideas to others who might be helping.) I pay particular attention to refinements that pop into my head first thing on waking. Or in the shower. Quite often that's when the best inspiration arrives. If the vision loses its 'juice' then I'll wipe it and start again. It saves SO much time and expense going through that trial and error process in my head rather than with actual materials and construction. Once I've visualised it in all its details and ironed out most of the wrinkles, the actual construction tends to go flawlessly.

Yes, we agree that health is number one, even if you are young, you can have an accident and not be able to work on your land ( this is very common) also if you are a young couple, make sure you buy a piece of land not too big that might be too much for only 2 people, no matter how young you are, also children need company and schooling…..and also need to be safe and inevitable will get sick and need regular check ups….nature is lovely but also not as safe as you think. Live well have a lovely life, be free but also be smart.

I think you pitched this one just right. Honest, not too self evident, and you highlighted some of the biggest pitfalls - specially biting off more than you can chew at once, and being realistic about what you can or can't do.

Thank you for this very useful and honest advice. One can not enter off grid living with only discontent and vague dreams as a foundation, and this video and all your others clearly show the need for vision, forward planning patience, courage, strength and mental resilience in order to make a success of this often difficult but highly rewarding lifestyle. May your future bring you all the happiness you deserve!❤❤❤

Excellent!! Well done and well said. I can relate so much to everything you said. I don't live off grid but I live "like" I do. If I suddenly lost everything but the barest necessities I could go right on and be just as happy. I love the challenge of living below my meager means. It makes me feel like I've won the battle. The world can have all it's "stuff", I prefer freedom "from" stuff. And Molly is indeed a youtube star 🌟!! Take care and have a lovely week!! 🍂🌾🥰🌾🍂

I very much enjoyed this! The beginning was awesome....I just really laughed out loud! Behind Luke sitting on the hammock was the old washing machine! I will not forget the first b time i saw him washing clothes while riding that bike! 🤣🤣🤣 AWESOME MEMORY! I'm glad you didn't show the goats, they were so cute and playful, i know why they cal. The young ones kids! I did imagine them on there homemade seesaw! Do you know how they are doing? I miss Maggie too! If you see another wild Boar, its Boar boiling time and a BBQ!!! Though the chipmunk babies were quit cute. Im scared everytime your in there sitting down! I've seen a normal pig, (one of my Grandfather's many, run up behind him one day and hit his legs. When he was down, the pig tried to get on top of him. I was a little girl and could do nothing but scream. My Grandmother came out of the house with her broom and had to beat the pig off of him with the wooden handle! Me and my sister were screaming and crying.) Well, after that we begged him not to go back in there. I wish i had a picture of the pig pen and all the muck he was in. Well, my sister didn't know it, but we all ate that pig!! Ok. Now you know why i write, be careful in there !! Seems like things in your childhood freak you out more than things in your adult life. Ok...blah, blah, blah...AT LEAST YOU KNOW I'M ENGAGED! LOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣 ✝️🙏❤🇺🇸🇵🇹👣☘🌻🌻🌻🌻🍍🤗😎

On animals : 1. Have a solid barn/housing + run before you bring animals onto your land. Makes it way easier to make friends with them, keeping them safe and in a routine that means they are handled daily. The chicken thing is that everything loves chicken, so have a good protected run (including solid or netting roof) and roosting area for them. The predators will know they are there quickly and some birdsof prey will just sit in a tree above them and drop right on top of them. Yes that raises the cost somewhat, but predators will try harder if/when they have been succesfull on your property. Build solid from day one makes for better sleep and a more reliable foodsource. 2. Milking : Ignore the standard way of weaning off the kids/lambs/calf and just add yourself as another one instead. Milking animals are herd animals and need an adult companion, their babies don't plug that gap untill after weaning, so you have at least 2 if not 3 + babies (castrated male might work, but might also be a bully). From what others say milk use averages at about 1litre / 4 cups per person per day (yoghurt, cheese, cream, butter, ... ). Sharing with kid/lamb will make that easy, you won't have to empty that udder 2x a day every day. The babies will keep production up for you and a freezer will store it for a week (or 2) happily untill you have enough for making cheese/cream/butter and so on. Also on that note don't get a cow unless you have a large family and need a lot of milk + the terrain can support one. In addition, not everybody handles cowsmilk well, sheep and goat (in that order) are easier to digest for humans and way more costly to buy. 1litre of sheepsmilk is 5 euros over here, cow 1 euro (raw milk tap). And the sheep are cheaper to buy and keep.
