I really wanna be a deep sea marine biotechnologist specifying on finding medicine; I’m so nervous because I’m a senior who’s about to go to college and I love the subject but I’m so worried that I’m not smart enough or that I’m not good enough. Also I appreciate your videos, thanks!

In the Philippines, I think it's a bit different. While there aren't necessarily "more" positions, there are only so few PhDs. In fact, state universities have programs to encourage their faculty to pursue further studies.

Thank you for the insight, I think that’s fascinating to know how this issue changes in different countries. I’m glad to hear further study is being incentivized in some way in the Philippines.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us, so helpful 🐚 I'm a visual communication designer at 21 years old and being marine biolog was my dream that I want to make it real before I die. And before a while, i thought about start collage again but i had doubts what if it's too late? what if I will spend my 20's and even after that still can't have a real job at my early 30's. So, your video gave me so much opinion, thank you...

not sure if this will help, but i'm 28 and about to get my associates, no degree declared, but i'm looking at marine biology for my degree choice after giving up my dream of going into film. it's definitely possible, never too late!

love this. I am thinking of going into marine biology but I didn’t know what the jobs would consist of before this video.

Right now, all the fields are competitive. It's insane. IMO, the reasoning for this is that there are currently 4 generations in the workforce. I am Gen X and I used to get new jobs pretty easily. Now, it's impossible. Or at least seemingly so. I've been out of work for over a year. Btw, I went to FSU too! (but not a Marine Biology major - Fashion Merchandising!)

So informative video! Thank u for truth! I have some questions here. Is it possible for marine biologist to study and work at the same time(Bsc, Msc, PhD)? Besides that, do u manage to save your salary for capital? How well-paid is this job? Have there been cases of biologists going into business?

Question for you: Is there anything unethical about no disclosing your PhD and only your masters if you know the position will take a masters over a PhD? Is this something that will anger your employers if they later find out you also have a PhD?

Was this just for being a marine biologist or for all jobs in the field? Like if I wanted to be a marine lab technician would a PhD be the only way?
@oceanscholar2 жыл бұрын
You definitely don't need a PhD to pursue jobs in marine biology. There are lots of marine biology jobs out there that don't require you to have one. Tech jobs are definitely a great entry-level position to get started with, although they are often short-term. If you're looking to become an academic marine biologist, however, in my experience it becomes a lot more difficult to find stable jobs without a PhD or at least a master's!
