My advice to anyone wanting to move to Australia, (I migrated to Australia in the mid 60s) is; Be prepared for a couple of years of hard work in establishing a home of some sort. Make the effort when you get here to learn all you can about local culture and norms. Read as much as you can once you are here about the local, regional and national histories of Australia. That impresses the hell out of Aussies when you know about this wide brown land. To them it shows you are interested. And finally, volunteer for something in your local community. This last point is really important, because it will connect you to your community, and help develop friendships that could last you for life.

I came in the sixties too. My advice is also just keep quiet till you work out how to understand the supple differences. In other words test the water before putting your feet in.

I’m not sure what establishments you eat at but there are many restaurants (up market cafes) who do table service. I eat out breakfast, lunch or dinner often and the majority of times there is table service. Aussies don’t actually hate you for commenting on things Australian as long as you are not whinging…

I’ll back you up on this… I’m in Sydney and have had the same experience re table service. I was also surprised that CV isn’t used in SE Qld, only resume.

Excellent, and comprehensive video Ross! There are a lot of well established towns and cities between the capitals and the outback, many like Bathurst NSW have all the history, tradition and modern facilities but in a more open country setting, unlike coastal towns! Tasmania has many opportunities for self employment, create your own dream space, in a fantastic environment! There are so many places to see and be your best! 👍

I started watching your vids a year ago because we were going to move to QLD (from New Zealand). Not going to move now but still watch your videos. You can give Australians shit about their country btw, just not many Brits can handle the return serve lol.

I was sitting here wondering what the hell he was waffling on about with regards to not being able to say anything negative about Australia. Say whatever you feel.......but be aware that if youre mocking something we are proud of or hold dear, like our convict heritage.....be prepared for the fact that we will respond, our humour can be very rough, we're born experts at sarcasm and that the acronym P.O.M. stands for prisoner of mother England. If you have a genuine complaint voice it, if it is valid we will address it, most of us kindly and with concern.....if youre just whinging because here isnt England/the USA etc, you WILL be told to f*ck off home.

If you go into any bar in Perth the din of the crowd has a UK accent. Over one million UK immigrants in Australia so far....and I think most of them must be in Perth.

Well, I live in Canberra. So the winter has minus degrees in winter when I walk down to the Light Rail to go to work. However, most days have nice weather. Only occasionally, we had a hot 40 degrees.. for 4 days when my mum from Ireland visited 4 years ago. Didnt happen before, and hasn't happened again. And 2 weeks of smoke from the fires in the South Coast a few years ago. Weather right now is awesome. Sunny even though it's winter....

Fun fact Australia is the best place to view the Milky way galaxy. It's located up in the middle of the night sky whereas the northern hemisphere is located low in the sky. Also there is little to no light pollution. It a win win down under. 😎

What's all that got to do with milky ways? They're just normal chocolate with lighter fluffier chocolate inside. You never see that regardless of the light or whatever hemisphere you eat it in because it's gone in one bite.

Yes, you can see the ‘eye’ of the Milky Way here, it’s stunning. But if you’re me and not wearing your glasses, you will see precisely nothing.

It's funny how many people in other countries complain about the heat, yet head down to the heat for holidays. Yep, we are lucky here to have 300++ sunny days per year. Once you become friends with people you can take the p*ss out of everything and everyone. The trick is to not do it on the first meeting unless they started it and now it has become a back and forth. Oh, and do it once or twice, just don't do it continuously for 10 minutes. Pubs, bistros, and coffee shops you get up to order, but in most restaurants and licenced cafes someone will come to your table to take the orders.

Something you should never do is underestimate travel time between cities and states. Takes me 10 hours straight driving to visit my sister in Melbourne, from near Adelaide, and nearly 3 days straight driving to visit my cousin in Darwin (we do take a week to drive home though).

Idk if you have a place where you receive your most asked questions, but does he ever talk about how much he had to save to move to Australia? I would love to move there but have no idea how much money I would have to save before even thinking about it.

My partner is from the UK and he has lived in the one place in Queensland for the last 13 years. What ticks me off is when he says “in Australia it’s like ABC or XYZ“ but he really has no idea what the entire of Australia is like so his view is limited. He definitely makes a lot of broad sweeping statements about Australia and it annoys the hell out of me. Of course I tell him that it annoys the hell out of me. I have also heard him say “ Why do they do X in Australia?” As if it happens everywhere. ANNOYING! You are right though, I have even told him to “ bugger off back to England” and “ Stop being a whinging Pom”.
