*Rug I highly Recommend* . My friend has six Labrador Retrievers, her rugs take a beating. If you like something vintage inspired the Loloi II is the way to go. My friend purchased two 8x10's, for living room and bedroom. They look great and clean up like a dream (I'm her house cleaner, I know). These rugs are flat and printed but with a quality rug pad you have a great feeling underfoot. *Sheets* . I purchased sheets and a duvet cover from the JSD brand sold on Amazon. They are microfiber. I'm a hot sleeper and these sheets are cool and buttery soft. I've had zero issues with pilling, great quality. Excellent tips Kiva! I'm budget conscious and over purchasing "fast furniture" . That being said, I do have a few pieces that have stood the test of time because they are quality pieces.
@susanbaker27968 ай бұрын
Yes, Kiva.....I am ready to hear a 50-minute duvet rant video. I think it's confusing and then I just default back to the "bed-in-a-bag" at TJs/Marshalls/HomeGoods because it easier and I don't have to think. I have watched your bedroom videos and feel a little bit of knowledge on this but I think a video dedicated to "duvet" would be great. Thanks so much.
@yakiraheyman73078 ай бұрын
What is confusing? 1. Duvet is the warm piece filled with down or polyester. 2. You insert that duvet into a decorative duvet cover. That’s it. It’s like putting your pillow into a pillowcase!
@susanbaker27968 ай бұрын
@yakiraheyman7307 Wrong. Some duvets have loops. Some duvets have ties. Some have corner loops AND ties. For a full and expensive look, some influencer (including Kiva) suggest two duvets inside one cover for an overstuffed look. Other influencers suggest one duvet for summer and one for winter inside the same cover. And with a king-sized duvet and cover, Kiva has shown in past videos an easier method for putting it all together. Finally, if Kiva feels she can talk for 50 minutes on this one subject, clearly there's much more to it than merely putting a pillowcase on a pillow. I got that part of it. So....thanks.

Hi Kiva! I agree a good kitchen stool is essential. I got mine at pier one on clearance. Swivel solid wood vinyl upholstery. These stools retail new for 500 to 700 each. I only needed 2. But pier one was having financial problems and needed to sell to get cash. I got a real bargain. They are comfortable and can accommodate a human sized person. As for rugs I am a person who believes a good solid wool high pattern rug with a low pile will last for decades and always look good. If you amortize the cost for the time you hold it it’s worth the price. I’m not talking thousands of dollars. But a good solid wool rug is an asset to any room. Good practical advice as usual from you. Thank you😊 !!!🥰🥰🥰👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I agree with most of this, but I actually LOVE my $600 Costco Novaform memory foam mattress. So does my husband who sleeps the opposite way (stomach vs back), and so do multiple people who have slept on the one in our guest room and specifically praised it. We upgraded to a king size bed and rebought the same mattress because we love it that much. So I don't see the point in spending more than that, though I wouldn't buy a super cheap Ikea mattress.
@reneeburich94978 ай бұрын
We actually use our duvet and duvet cover as only a bed covering. It never touches our skin. We cover up with a sheet and blanket. That’s good, because I wouldn’t wash my duvet cover every week or two because I can never put that darn duvet back inside correctly!
@bluesky78388 ай бұрын
A few absolutely important things re down duvets: -- Before you buy a duvet, take advantage of the research available on line, even (or especially) if you're looking to save money. Know what makes a duvet of good quality, so you can choose what you need. --Make sure it's 100% down. If it's mixed with feathers, it's heavier, makes crunching noise, and can cause more allergy problems. The amazing, sleeping-in-a+cloud, super warm, super light experience of 100% down is amazing,and it can definitely be found for cheaper than it used to be. -- Make sure it's hypoallergenic, which means that the down is specially cleaned. -- You can look for certification of more humanely treated birds. -- Figure out what weight you need. They go from incredibly warm for very cold places (either because of the area, or if there's poor or no heating) to summer-weight. -- Whether or how often you can wash your duvets depends a lot on the ticking. There are more and more that are made to be machine washable. Regardless, be judicious about washing them. Don't do it a lot. And, leave several hours for drying on low. They take much longer to really dry than you'd imagine, and if you leave them even the tiniest bit damp, you smush the down, and ruin its insulation properties. A lot of the price is in the quality of the ticking and in the way it is sewn. If you live in a place with a backyard or patio, shake it out outside, and you can even leave in the sun for a bit. Anyway, again, before you buy RESEARCH! I come from the tradition of expensive, dowry -quality duvets. But, I recently bought a couple of beautifully and thoughtfully made, high quality, washable, mid/lightweight duvets on Amazon for $140 from a company called CONFIBONA. They are currently showing as unavailable, but I really hope they come back.
@jennifershevin55888 ай бұрын
I could not agree more. The duvet cover is just the window dressing. Duvet is the French term for a down quilt and eiderdown is the German term. I come from a German family and have been using down quilts since I left the crib over 60 years ago. Some additional points. Look at the fill power, ounces of fill and the actual measurements vs the bed size as the sizes are not universal. The higher the fill power and ounces, the warmer and fluffier the quilt will be. Goose down is more expensive than duck down because it is finer and warmer. I believe the US allows for 20% of different filler even if it says 100% down filled. Down fiber is not down feathers; it is a composite of stuff. Try to go a little larger to fully cover your bed. Look for ties for the corners to keep the quilt in place. Down quilts are meant to be washed and not dry cleaned. If you have a larger, heavier quilt, do not wash it at home. Look for a laundromat or laundry service. If you have a smaller quilt that can be washed at home, take 2-3 tennis balls and put each in its own sock, so that you don't have yellow fuzz everywhere, and put them in the dryer to help break up the down clumps. Down will always shift from the head to the foot of the bed. It does not matter how many channels or how the quilt is sewn. You need to shake out the quilt or rotate it. The quilt will eventually lose down. In the old days, you could have them refilled but it is very expensive and not worth it today. Do not try to do it yourself as you will end up with down everywhere but in your quilt!

I ended up getting a pair of Franklin counter-height bar stools from IKEA for $35 each, and they’re so comfortable to sit in. We have two bar stools. My husband bought them from an estate sale. He’s the one who sits on the one. The other has all his stuff in front of it. So no one sits there. They are metal and are heavy. But they have felt pads on the bottom. And haven’t hurt our floors. I do not spend a lot on bedding. Maybe if my dogs stop sleeping with us. They can mess any bed covering really quick. They have muddy paws, or scratch until it’s just right. Then everything is all threads hanging out. I just bought a nice blanket on sale. And a cheap comforter to put on top. I am buying a new bed frame and mattress soon. And I want to try a memory foam mattress. I hope we like it. Or my husband will be mad. But I wake up everyday with my hip hurting. We’ve had our mattress for too long. I can’t remember when we bought it. So that tells me it’s been too long. I’ll keep my metal headboard. Because it’s a nice brassy bronze color.

When it comes to rugs, I do plan on eventually purchasing a fairly expensive one because that’s one item that’s notorious for being made with slave labour, or close to slave labour. Ethically made rugs are almost always more expensive than their non ethically made counterparts, but it’s not necessarily an astronomical markup. For me, I think it’s worth it to splurge a bit to support artisans in countries that are often exploited by the west

Along with the CHEAP mattresses you all think are the best. If they come all smashed up in a box, throw it out ASAP. It will not last for the year. Mindset on the generation of throw away your furniture is amazing to me. I am old school, YOU call it. My furniture is well made that I will and have had for 40 years. My bed, tables,lamps,dishes, all are still in good condition. I have bath towels that look new from my wedding gift of 48 year ago. Better made than you will ever buy now.
