I've been playing for 30 years. Never had a lesson. In a sense, I can play -- but in a large sense, I have no idea what the "map of the neck" is like. Kind of embarrassing, really. This video is concise and easy to understand! Oof...much-needed.

How is 5 7 5 a whole step @6:13? Isn't it two whole steps? 5 to 7 is one step and 7 back to 5 is one step? Or is it such that if you go forth and back it counts as one step?

For sure known his guitar backward and forwards. Just starting out I’m just getting to know my guitar and getting a feel for all the different styles and tones I find myself searching for that Stevie Ray sound not intentionally just naturally is it good for me to feel around the guitar before really worrying about scales and cords?

I started learning scales almost a yr back .. Now i am good with scales. Now started practising "choosing intervals" . Maybe i'll get better at it in an yr. Whoever is playing and struggling , keep practising, you will get there.

Is pattern 1 of the Major scales tke one most commonly used, and should I concentrate on this pattern more than the other 4 patterns, or should I be memorizing all 5 patterns equally? Was pattern 1 just used as an example for this video or do all the other patterns have equal significance?
@molly17486 жыл бұрын
For tip number 3 is it saying that you play the chord tones for that tune you are in?
@MusoraOfficial6 жыл бұрын
I was talking more about playing the chord tones of the chord that is currently being played. For example, if a G major chord is being played your target notes would be G B D. If the song then switches to a C major chord your target notes would change to C E G.

I've been playing for about 30 years. I have never taken the first lesson. I play metal, rhythm guitar, power cords and lots of chugging and crunch. I have wanted to learn more. For the first time ever, I kinda understand a scale and how to use it. I may be looking at your website and start just like a beginner like I should have done years ago

You lost me around the 3.30 mark. Why does that chord shape fit over the scale as opposed to something else? And how did you pick out those 5 or 6 notes out of all that scale?
@tushB80174 жыл бұрын
That is the bar chord to the Amojor chord, learn the chord its very easy the one exactly at 3.30, then you will know that is the first shape for the note and the other notes that he finds are the ones youre holding for that chord. If im right he said A Csharp E

how come the A major scale i learned starts on the low E string 5th fret skips to the 7th fret then the 9th fret all on the low E string then moves to the 5th string....it starts and uses different notes moving up to the high E string? your A major scale is different.
@spamz26 жыл бұрын
9th fret on the low E is the same tone as the 4th fret on the A string, just the shape of the scale you learned is different, but the notes are the same, only the way you are fingering them is different. :)

Great lesson, really very well taught. Thank you. One suggestion: While the driven tone sounds great over the backing track, I think I (and maybe others) might find the overdrive a distracting element during the lesson. A clear ringing string is so much easier to associate with music tonality, especially when learning the fundamentals.

Thanks for the suggestion. :)
