One thing I've found out about writing (at least about myself) is that my "writer's block" comes from wanting my characters to do one thing when they really should be doing something different. If the plot you had thought out just isn't working, LISTEN TO WHAT THE CHARACTERS WANT YOU TO DO. Sometimes you're ultimately going to get a better story when you listen to what the characters are telling you to do. Hope this might help someone :))

"No one is ever going to care about your book as much as you are, no one is going to care about your goals or dreams as you are, as much as your family might be supportive or whatever, no one is ever going to care as much as you do. So if you can't even bring yourself to do whatever it takes to get it done..." After all the same old advice I've heard time and time again this is the kind of push that I needed. I've been told that no one cares about excuses, etc. but for someone to put it into perspective that because we (the writer) are the only ones who will ever truly care about our stories this deeply, that should be the motivation we need to get it done. I don't know if that makes sense- but it's just being told this in this way that's both tough and caring is honestly exactly what I needed.

Tip 8 is a lovely reality check, not even just for writing. I’ve been thinking about motivation lately, and how to keep myself motivated and wanting to do something good for the world. Sometimes the only motivation is your idea, or whatever made you want to start in the first place. That’s enough - you’ll do it if you really want to.

I'm not trying to write a novel at the moment but I still loved these tips and I feel more motivated to use my time better for writing blog posts (for my blog that I need to launch first :- D)

This is fantastic Katie! I think accountability is key. I have about four stories that have been HEAVY on my mind and I’m just making all kinds of excuses to NOT write them💁🏽‍♀️ no time, doing school, so busy. But I could totally start with 30 minutes a day

I write a bit like you, I'm a mix of a little bit of writing an outline here and there but I usually just pour everything out. I have an idea of some things but once I'm in the zone I just take off. Sometimes I'm just trying so hard to type as fast as the movie playing out in my head but then there are other times when I'm struggling for how I want to say something with just the right word and trying to get my sentence structure right. I know I can edit later but sometimes it nags you and you have to fix it before you move on. I've been writing stories since I could hold a pen and its so much fun. I'm always happiest when I'm writing or reading a book. Happy writing and reading!!🤓📚📑✒💻

These videos are so useful. Thanks for making them. I'm currently working on a short stories collection, which I've never done before and I need all the help. It's hilarious how I can, as a journalist, write about everything...but when it comes to fiction, I have issues I never have. It's like a mental block or something. And using little tips kind of distracts my brain and helps so much. It sounds very weird, I know xD

I ALWAYS carry a notebook with me! It is the best thing ever! I am not a writer really, well not a novel writer, but I am a blogger and work in content creation and advertising so keeping a notebook on me helps me write down ideas when they hit me.

I'm nearly done with my first draft and I'm having lots of struggle with the climax. I know exactly what the resolution's gonna be and I know the things I want to achieve, but for some reason the climax/final battle section is turning out to be more difficult than I anticipated and I'm having a hard time getting it down. Thank you for the reminder that first drafts aren't supposed to be good. Always important to keep that in mind.
