My great grandfather told enjoy life and family and everything else you can do. Don't worry about the small stuff it will take care of it self and resolve the big stuff so it goes away before the end. Then write a book of your life so everyone can learn about what to do? Thank you for all you do to help and make everyone laugh

Nanny I am all too familiar with death. I have lost just about all my family with the exception of one brother, I lost my parents 3 years apart & my grandmother three years after my dad. I have lost all of my very close friends, & that has affected me, I am 68 years old & am basically alone. But I have a personal faith in God , & that sustains me.

My mother was almost 91 when she passed. She would say to me in the last 6 months before she passed that she wished she would pass. She said she always wanted to die in her sleep. I took care of her since 2013 when she got colon cancer. She flew thru surgery and continued on. Her saying to me how she wanted to die and how soon always bothered me. There were times I would check on her and she would be asleep and I feared she had passed away because I couldn’t see her breathing. Of course she would finally wake up and I would be re leaved . The day she passed away, I went over to the addiction and she wasn’t in her chair and I called for her thinking she was in the bathroom and as I was heading back to bathroom and I didn’t see her. I looked in her room and she was in bed. As usual I thought she was sleeping. I thought she was sleeping because she didn’t feel well. I placed my hands on hers and she was cold. She would feel cold when she was alive. I then tried to puller her arm away from her body and it wouldn’t move. It was at that point I realized what was happening. It frightened me terribly. She would always warn me the day was coming but I refused to hear it. I was grateful she passed the way she wanted to. It made me feel better she got her wish.

Yes, major adjustments made here at home. Christmas decor to a minimum, grocery shopping twice a week instead of once (no more ALL at once) I enjoy getting out of the house. I don't buy things I don't need (no place to store them), clothes are lasting longer (wearing aprons now) and cooking 2- day meals. I'm enjoying less stress and labor! Thanks for the pep talk! (I'm changing the things I can 😄)

That is a prayer you were trying to remember Nanny. Its called The Serenity Prayer and it reads: "God Grant me the Serenity to Accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to Change the things I can and the Wisdom to know the Difference". Very powerful prayer! Good video. Love your positive attitude 😊🌹💕

Thank you for the last two videos addressing some of the more serious issues we face as we age. I have noticed that since I turned 70, sadness and depression have emerged thinking of how little time I might have left. I am starting to realize that wasting that time worrying about the future is just that... a waste of time, precious time. Keep these types of videos coming. They are helpful, encouraging, and uplifting. Love to you and Moosie ❤

The Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr!! I just turned 73 and my Irish-Greek mother loved that prayer. The Irish side were consummate worriers-finding fear and doom at every turn. My Greek grandfather, however, was a living embodiment of Our Lord. Such a peaceful, quiet, loving, hardworking man. I simply was and am at my best recalling my 18 years with him and try to emulate him every day!💙🇬🇷🍀

I know that as we enter into our final years it’s only natural to have anxiety and concerns about our future, and I try not to let these feelings take over so that I can enjoy my life to the fullest. Having said this, because I am now on my own I’ve tried to plan for the inevitable by preparing files with every detail for my family regarding house expenses, bank accounts, and all personal information that they might need when something happens to me. I’m also in the process of eliminating items from my home of 39 years that I know my family wouldn’t necessarily want or need, so that they won’t be burdened with this chore, and I know from friends and other family members that have passed on what a difficult task this becomes for the family. As depressing as all this sounds, it actually has made me feel less anxious, as I know that everything will be in order, and I can now get on with enjoying my remaining years. Your topic really hit home Nanny, and although we all know we can’t avoid the inevitable, at least we can still look forward to each wonderful new day. 😘🤗

One little tip is try not to worry about things during the evening hours, things always look worse then; it's dark, cold, we are tired, and our energy is low, so it's a bad time to begin thinking about worrisome matters. My late husband gave me that advice years ago and it has served me well. Instead, schedule a specific time for the next day to think about the issue/s, and to come up with some steps moving toward solving them, e.g. 11:00-11:15 am. When you have accomplished that 15 minutes, get up, go out and treat yourself to a little something!

The hardest thing to overcome is the trauma you experience as a child for it colors how you will view all aspects of life as you grow older. Some are more successful at healing while others cannot. Accepting that you do not have control over certain things in life is not easy for the many who are the "fixers" in their families. However, it can be done. I wish you all the strength to carry on with more positivity in your life. 🙏

We nicknamed our firstborn daughter Fearless Freep! She was not afraid of anything. The whole time she was in college, she ran with the Fredericksburg, Va Fire Department as well as their Rescue Squad and also with the Lake of the Woods Wilderness Search and Rescue Team. What wonderful life skills she learned from those groups that she was able to incorporate in her career in law enforcement. For instance, she was often used to teach first aid and CPR in the academy classes. Her days in the search and rescue team taught her to read maps as easily as she read classic literature which came in handy at times. She is the most prepared woman on the face of the Earth! I was raised by the The Worry Warts of the Mid South Club but am trying to think outside of that box. I do enjoy your posts so much.

My husband & I own & operate a funeral home (although we'd like to retire, just haven't found a buyer yet) and I can tell you this first hand. The families with no faith approach & react to death & dying completely differently than those WITH faith. It's the difference between night and day. I pray that those who have a great fear of dying will find the faith & hope in our Lord and realize we are truly spiritual beings having a human experience. I encourage people not to be afraid to talk about death, as we will all experience it in the end. Love, hugs, and blessings to you & Moosie from West Texas --

Nanny, what a solid topic for this community. I kind of think that “fears” are more like concerns, but as you said, so much is not in our control. I worry more that life in our beautiful country is changing so rapidly, that for our children and grandchildren, their lives will not be as blessed as ours has been. But even with that, it is not really in our control and I have to believe that there is a bigger plan. So I choose to find gratitude in my daily life, take good care of myself (and my husband), and God willing enjoy many more healthy, fulfilling years. Cheers to knowing what we can and can’t control…..and being grateful for the life we have.❤🙏

Oh how I've made alterations to my lifestyle! First, I've found Amazon Prime replaces all the trips shopping, and my orders are dropped at my front door! Just like having a personal shopper. Next, I use Walmart grocery delivery! Again, they bring the goods right to my front door! I think I'm saving a lot of money by having to shop from my La-Z-Boy. Very little impulse buying. I feel you're a sister from another mother. Our values, hopes and fears are so similar at this "mature" age. My worst fear is that of falling, mainly because I have to call the Paramedics to get me up and then the children's schedules are sometimes interrupted due to my negligence. I'm learning to use my Rolater as my sidekick. The seat is so handy to transfer items from one place to another. ART is my therapy. Thank you for all you bring to us through this medium. Love y'all. Good morning Nanny and Moose. Lisbon wakes up shining and hot after many days of rain and cold. It’s a wonderful day and it will remain like this until the end of the week. About worries and fears, I think that this comes with age. Twelve years ago I only worried with my Mother’s illness and I absolutely didn’t think of me and didn’t think what could happen to me. After the pandemic, when I had Covid and I felt so bad and alone I started to worry and think about being older and alone. That period was so bad that I contracted a kind of agoraphobia. It’s difficult for me to go out, get in the car, be in closed places with lots of people, in short, a disaster. Sometimes I manage to overcome the fear and palpitations but it’s very difficult. Fighting this has been very difficult but I have managed to feel good with this, the only thing I lack is a beautiful garden like yours, I love your beautiful garden Nanny. Love you and God bless you all.

Love listening to you ,even if the subject isn’t applicable to where I might be at this time. Almost feels as if you are here for coffee. Not having others around or neighbors interested in incorporating any time to others, it helps. Thank you.

Oh Nanny thank you so much. I really enjoyed this video. It really was something to really think about which I think about all of the time but we must believe and leave it to God and just be happy because most of the time people are so sad I know I have been there and sometimes I do go through thatand that’s how I am. I worry about my kids my grandson but sometimes we have to just trust that they will be OK.❤ and we have to be grateful and blessed that we are here and we’re able to walk even if you can’t walk at least you’re alive and just being alive is a Beautifullest thing in the world to have that and know your alive . Love you and moose sending love and blessings ❤

Hi Nanny and Moose, I’m just getting through a rough patch with my illness , and most of the things you have been saying are all the things I have made my self miserable worrying about , I am so glad I looked up Nanny and Moose this evening you have made me realise it’s normal to have all these fears that are magnified when alone , with just Boris my cat for company but when not well I don’t feel like company . I just want to say you have lifted my mood realising I’m not the only one alone and not well and in my eighties and feeling sorry for my self . and the end bit with you trying to remember the words to it’s like a prayer but you two had me laughing so much as that’s just how I am trying to remember things how you have lightened my mood Thank you and God bless us all 💕💕🥰

Nanny, I’m 78 and been making adjustments too. Every Christmas I put up my Nativity Scene on my fireplace mantel. then I put a white feather boa all around it so it looks like snow….so pretty. Well, my husband and I ran to the store for a few minutes. When we came home, our one year old kitty (Casper), had the feather boa torn apart and all over the house. I almost fell over! lol. Needless to say, my Nativity Scene was untouched! Thank God!❤😂🙏. But seriously, I am putting up less and less decorations. I’ve developed some health issues now, and it’s getting to be too much. Take care Nanny and I’m glad you’re feeling better now! Marilyn and Ray 😍

Hello again dear Nanny~ Once again what an insightful video on acceptance, letting go of things we cannot control, changing the things we can and the wisdom to know the difference.....a real take on the Serenity Prayer. Yes, I had to cut back on all the usual holiday decorations this year as they are stored in the basement in large tubs and the energy levels have lessened. I'm still a bit of a fuss budget about the house and orderliness....dusting, vacuuming, cleaning and fussing about! And then....I recall a dear aunt who had a passel of kiddos and to bring in extra cash she baked pies and cakes in her kitchen. I will admit that her house was a bit of a calamity.....and yes even a little 'messy' ..... flour on the floor, laundry in piles, sticky counter tops, dishes in the sink.......BUT and this is a big one....She loved her kids and they felt her love and when things got a bit overwhelming she'd roll her big beautiful blue eyes, look to heaven and sigh and always say " things will just work out" "I won't worry about the floor until I stick to it!" Yes, I do believe that worry is a part of life....not knowing the future and what that may entail.... such as you stated the usual concerns....But worry without any action is wasted time and loss of the precious moments that we can choose to enjoy. Fear clouds the sun on a beautiful day. We can choose to feel the warmth and beauty of it or waste the day with clouds of concern. Oh my gosh I just went back to the out-takes and had to laugh out loud! a slight addition to the poem: "God grant me the ability to remember the words to the Serenity Prayer, the grace to try again and the ability to laugh at myself and share my little frustrations!" You are so loved for just being YOU....

@@lonniec1073 Lonnie yes Nanny's videos are a blessing! I found her at a very dark time in my life. Her positivity brightened my days. Timing is everything in life. She just appeared one day on my KZbin feed. I almost past her by but I thought there are no coincidences in life. Everything happens for a purpose. I took a look at the video and I was hooked! I always say when the student is ready the teacher appears lol 😂! I was ready and Nanny was a real teacher in her life! Have a great day!

Oh my, such wonderful words of wisdom! A little over a year ago I started buying things I may need one day. I have all the items you mentioned plus a wheelchair. I want to make things as easy as I can for myself and my loved ones when the time comes. I may not need everything I’ve stockpiled away but I’m sure they can bee passed on to someone that will. My goal is to make my transition as easy as possible for my loved ones. I have been blessed with a very loving family!

Oh Nanny, I'm still smiling over the serenity prayer, that's an oldie. I'm pretty much at peace with all of what you spoke but will be much better when it gets a little warmer in Massachusetts!! Loosing my husband, almost two years now, was my biggest fear but am adjusting. I do not decorate much anymore because I hate having to take it all down and putting it away. I don't have any canes or walking aides but I beat you all, I have a lift! I have an addition over a garage which is 18 steps up and no way can I get groceries or pkgs. up without the lift. I ride it as well which is great when the arthritic knees don't want to cooperate. Enjoy your visit with your brothers and family. God bless.

Where do I start…. It’s my belief not to worry too much as it is energy draining and know that our life has already been planned out by Him before our arrival. It’s humanistic to have all those thoughts and emotions you described, but we just do the best we can. I try to live with the knowledge that if we’ve lived our best life by His guidance I will be ready to enter into His kingdom. My belief is death is not the end but the beginning. Really too much to go in to here. Thanks Nanny for your videos as they certainly are thought provoking. Blessings to you and Moosie. Xo

Infants have an innate fear of falling. But I grew up thinking ,before I do anything or say anything. I'm still that way now. I fear falling, and having to be laid up for years recovering. I have gone through hell with chronic pain. So now we have found the right meds, and I can walk and feel better. So I fear going back in to that.

What a wonderful video. Fist, enjoy all of the time you have with your brothers. I have only one sister left who is very dear to me and I would love to spend time with her. Now, let us consider fears. I sometimes think there must be something wrong with me as I don't seem to have any fears for myself. I have to stop myself from fearing about what could happen to my children. When I do I just tell myself to stop. My children are fine. They are living their lives and they don't need me to "smother" them. When I catch myself on the pity pot I stop and remind myself of how fortunate I am. I have a home to be in out of the weather, plenty of food to eat, fresh water to drink and I live next door to one of my sons. I sincerely pray for those who do not. Sometime I feel like there is something wrong with me that I don't seem to worry too much. Maybe, after all these years, I finally have come to know that it is not up to me. My higher power can handle all my fears. You are such a gentle and caring lady. I am glad I have come to know you.

Thank you for sharing your wise words of acceptance and gratitude. I also try to practice those traits. One of my favorite sayings that I try to remember and share with my children and grandchildren. "This too shall pass. When things are bad, remember: It won't always be this way. Take one day at a time. When things are good, remember: It won't always be this way. Enjoy every great moment. This too shall pass."
