Displacement by vertex normal is totally different from Pixel depth offset inside the framebuffer, Its very helpfull because it does not change the perspective and shape of the object unlike displacement. PDO needs to be remade from the ground up, it would be nice if it could support negtive offset too, if we get it back someday....

The point is that no matter what hardware you have, unless developer does an exceptional job mitigating it, and adding work around, UE5 games will have traversal stutter or shader stutter Meaning dropping to 0 fps when loading in a new asset for the first time in a game , or when traversing to new areas. And the engine will be bottlenecked to crap out of your cpu much more than it should be, even on the highest end cause and gpus. So it has all these awesome features but the most important thing: a stutter free experience is almost never the case in ue5 and ue4 games. Hardware only helps your fps not the engine stutters

No. It is threatening to make real life seem fake. We are going to hit a point where it will require AI to discern between real video and generated video. Don't get me wrong, I love AI and have been following it closely in absolute awe of how fast it is improving and expanding. But there is a genuine fear underlying that, because there are a lot of crappy people out there that would misuse and abuse the technology.

The problem with all these new simulations, if they are to be in real-time gaming, is needing a 10 fold more powerful GPU. While UE5 and all of the new additions I think are great, the GPU industry is not yet ready, especially for gaming is not ready.

Creating somewhat optimal game relatively simple. 1. Use direct rendering instead of deferred rendering 2. Make sure that every triangle in every mesh is at least 10px size 3. Make sure that there is up to three LOD levels per mesh during gameplay. More LOD levels can be add by combining meshes, or use different close up mesh when it something is picked to hand or shown in cutscenes. All modern engines are fast, or can easily adjusted when developing like this.
