While it may seem that a "Meet fire with fire" approach may work with a Narcissistic individual, don't buy into that mindset. It's like the old adage: "It's like you are drinking the poison in hopes of harming them!" They live for that!! Stop the game at the start. Pivot to the Healthy side of life! See you there! 😉

@@JackieFerrell-f6o I’ve been married to my narc husband for 25 yrs. Didn’t realize that was the issue until I found Dr. C. My husband says he’s filling for divorce in October. This is spot on. It's hard when they are in your immediate family. It really is them and not you. They are weak, broken people. Don't let them get you down. Make your goal getting them out of your life. You deserve to have peace and happiness. Narcissists never will, don't let them take yours.

I don’t need their poison.that is such a powerful statement. My narcissist is drinking a lot. Now he has started not putting out his bottles for recycling. He thinks he’s invisible, but other neighbours have spotted the smell'of alcohol. Everyone knows what he is doing and he thinks he is invisible.well he lives in his own world. I am on to him, and I am not interested. I want to enjoy my live. Thanks again. Judy from uk

Great advice as always! For me, my greatest weakness (as I've recently discovered) is that I don't pay attention (or fully trust) my instincts. In a recent situation, I remember thinking from the jump, "This person reminds me too much of so and so" but put it down to, "I'm over thinking it" - but I wasn't overthinking - it was kind of like subtle warnings that I didn't take seriously. Fast forward one year, I'm out of that group (others left before me) and feel more myself - I'm shaking it off and feel much lighter/happier and going in a different direction. The manipulation was there as was the passive aggressive behavior.

Excellent advice. And it works. An important part of preparing to do this is planning how we will handle their response. Because they are not likely to be happy, or gracious, about it. Long ago, before all the lovely training and information of Dr. C and his peers, my wasband was very, very unhappy with my not doing his what I now know was his narcissistic bidding. I did know that I was getting fed up with it. I was driving, and he got mad, when that didn't force my acquiesce, he got purple in the face and even drew back a fist. Stupid. By then I was mad too. I determined that I would drive to the police station if he hit me. I didn't say it, but absolutely would have. Just glanced at him, all I could do at 55 mph. He backed down. And remained pissy for weeks. Too bad.

Many communities have programs to help people with addiction and homelessness. A judgment-free place to ask questions might be the public library. They could tell you about resources in your area, or a safe distance from toxic relatives. I was first responder to an addict who overdosed in the park. The EMTs treated him with kindness and he's getting help.

I recently read a book that clarifies narcissistic abuse, from the angle of being scapegoated. I wonder, could you provide us with information regarding scapegoating, what it looks and sounds like, the damage it causes via the messages we receive from family members who "care" about us? I would really appreciate that. You are such a gifted teacher of this information, it would be very helpful to hear your perspective on this. Thank you very much.

Struggle with sadness in & out of narc sibling, enabling narc parents that I don’t trust & it eats me up, became glaringly worse since having my child , after years of ‘forgiving’ & moving on from incidents, last one with my sibling too far, my parents chip at me about it, putting it on me.

@@hugmc Fortunately, my (narc) husband doesn't get too involved with her. She was already terribly hyperactive when we got her at 10 weeks. She also came with a very definite aversion to doors. She must have had a run in with one prior to 10-weeks. She has moderately severe separation anxiety, which, supposedly, can also be the result of her seizure disorder; but, then, she was a pandemic dog and got used to always having someone around. So, its hard to say. Life is a challenge. I was very happy when she got over her fear of doors, The medicine has helped a lot with her hyperactivity. She acts like a normal dog now, except for the separation anxiety.

Sibling has gone silent for 14 months sitting on Mom’s property. Mom is bewildered why he’s got cob you know where. He wants to be in control about everything and he didn’t get assigned to it. Pout time! So we all will just sit it out and enjoy life. When time comes to the have to stage , we’ll go Legal. That’s what mom wants. She wrote it. Son won’t honor her. What kind of person does this? I wonder of advice along the way dealing with a person that Dr. C just described. Toxic people are so hard to be around. Don’t even want to ever have to approach him ever again. How do you divorce a sibling? Boundaries! Think I’ll send the list of boundaries as we get Moms affairs taken care of. The mocking of perpetually angry people who lack self awareness is warranted. That's why I like that old TV animated series King Of The Hill. The main character Hank Hill is perpetually angry and it's a funny mockery of people that behave that way. I bet narcissists hate TV shows that mock their behavior. My narcissist father made me stop watching The Simpsons after an episode made fun of the US Navy because he was retired from the US Navy and demanded everyone respect highly respect him. I do agree The Simpsons can encourage young kids to behave disrespectfully towards their parents, but the real reason my father made me stop watching it was because everyone laughed at that episode making fun of the US Navy and it poked a hole in his inflated ego.

TOXIC: lacking SPIRIT OF GO(O)D thoughts and OTHER CENTEREDNESS. (and there is NOTHING that can be done, but if one is able to ENDURE and 'suffer it' and 'offer up' (at altar aka church worship) ONE will gain A GRACED STRENGTH that is HIS PRESENCE. (Pick up the cross of this world as it is, pray and offer up at altar FOR such souls, and never be alone with such ... make sure there are others present when in company of such souls)

Where can you report things anonymously so narcs can't retaliate? Narcs despise truthtellers and there are people ignoring things around us that is absolutely stupid. Unsafe and illegal things. If just one person reports all the time, they think it is you with the problem. Crimestoppers could see your phone number. Do they have an address?

I have a narc neighbour who i share a driveway with her house is near the access,so she parks right at the access not allowing me to get in or out,you cant ask her to move as she scream go away holding her ears, just because she ownes it too means she can park there but she could not care less that I cant get in or out or ask her to move,so for peace sake i use a near by carpark, people say dont let her away with it or speak to her,try speaking to someone whoes entitled and wont allow you to speak,i had a narc husband and cannot go through all this again so she can have the drive im not fighting every day with someone who will not move anyway or giving my self a heartattack.

My narc, after 70 days of her ending it in a text because she “couldn’t put me thru another day with her,” reached out to me via an email to wish me a happy birthday and it set me back after 2 months of recovery. Is there a more in-depth video that might help me to process this behavior?

Your just describing demons that use human vessels. I believe this toxic behavior I'd biblical. Because they're behavior is the same as the devils in spiritual warfare

I suspect I am with a narc but I'm not sure. He tries to triangulate with people I dont even know. Sometimes I want to think he is just exentric. He always goes like"oh who's sending me messages at this time?" Its so obvious he wants to make me jealous and I wonder how did I even grew to like this idiot? This afternoon he was looking at me with a weird face while eating ice cream, when I asked him whats with the face he said it was because of the ice. Gave me the creeps. I also feel drained after talking to him.

My narcissistic bf of 7 years and I broke up 3 months ago. This pain has been unbearable at times. I understand the idea now of it being like an addiction. I was so dismissive of my own feelings from the start. I knew something was “off”. And only now do I understand I’m trauma bonded to him and that’s why the break up is so hard. BUT I also understand I will come out of this one day. He seems to have moved on already. Scary thing is is that he is a child therapist!! Looks like an amazing person bc he “heals children”. Ugggg. He has not contacted me and my guess is bc of his new person. Do they reach out to you over time?? Will he try to get back in??

Worse and much worser when you have them back! Even part-time. It depends on how much abuse you can take. He will test you from time to time to see if you’re healed or destroyed. I’m free now, I hope you learn the strategies to join us survivors. 🩷from UK

Dr. Carter, Someone thinking something you like is boring or stupid is not narcissistic. Some may think football is stupid and boring. Or local theatre or chess. That’s their entitled opinion, If it doesn’t negatively impact the other person or finances etc.
