For transportation, beside Uber / bolt / etc, you have public transportation with a monthly pass. There's 2 options, Lisbon only for 30€ or for Lisbon + all surrounding for 40€ , and that includes train , bus, subway, trolleys and unlimited travels. As for museum's, public ones, usually are free on Sunday and holiday. It's something you need to check.

Great updates! Thanks! It appears that we have similar interests. I like to play tennis (haven't played for about 6 years now, but would love to get back to it). I also sing and my wife and I are interested in taking some lessons when we get there - I'm a baritone and largely sing in choral groups, besides being a cantor at my church. We are planning a scouting trip in December (not withstanding COVID and any other surprises). We picked December as we wanted to see what Portugal is like when the weather is considered to be at its worst! A note to sunscreen, turn the package and check if it contains Titanium Dioxide (E171) , it is a point of concern in relation to causing cancer, the very thing you’d like to avoid getting! It has been banned in France since 2019. Just thought I mention it here.

Winters in Portugal can be uncomfortable for most people not used to unheated houses. Dampness is mostly a problem because houses are not heated, just to give you an idea 100% relative humidity at 10°C(50F) would represent around 50% relative humidity at 20°C(68F). One solution is to buy a dehumidifier, and circulate air regularly by opening the windows. Some AC units can also work as dehumidifiers, and can heat the rooms quickly using less electricity than most space heaters.

​@@HoneymoonAlways that is nice, makes it easier to manage the climate inside the house. To cope with colder houses most people in Portugal also usually wear warmer clothes inside the house and other buildings during winter. As a side note, closing external window shutters is very useful during summer to reduce the amount of heat entering the house, obviously because of the amount of light that comes in, but also because window frames usually are not properly thermally insulated, and since most are made of aluminum they can heat a bit.

Another thing that we found to be very cheap was the cost of a Veterinarian. I'm Canadian I can only speak for prices in Canada I have no idea how much it costs in the US. We where on vacation with our dog and he got an infection on his paw and it was very swollen. We took him to a vet, he examined him, shaved his paw gave him a shoot of penicillin and 7 day supply of antibiotics all for 46 Euros. Here in Canada where I live in costs 100 dollars just to have a vet look at him, little alone any other services or medications.

Our plan does not cover other countries, it would cost about 30€ a month for that. When returning to the US we will need travel insurance to cover emergency medical and we won’t be using the us medical system for other medical care

We do have marshmallows (even vegan one's) of different stypes in various shops here, we do have gummy vitamins, we have various price range in whats comes to supplements from different labs in europe and beyond. Also we have fairly cheap SPF in the supermarkets. Also we have a good few Portuguese clothing brands with a focus on sustainability (of course it will be more expensive - same as the US or anywhere really, you pay more for better materials etc) We also have lot's of options for organic and clean beauty products plus higher quality(online and intore) Otherwise great video.

Electricity in Portugal for 2021 is $.22 per kilowatt includes all taxes in the United States is $.13 Cents but when you include all the taxes ends up being $.23

LMAO. What alternative US did you live in to get that tax rate? Do you know that utilities for residential use are generally tax exempt? I say generally because the policy is state dependent. Many states, including my home state of Georgia, even exempt utilities taxes for industrial usage, if they meet certain criteria. Even when businesses are charged a utility tax, it is the equivalent of a sales tax, which currently tops out at 10.3%. Using your (ridiculous) numbers, the tax rate in the US would have to be around 78%. Get a grip!

A bit of historical background that helps explain some things in the constitution. It’s from 1976 and was written in the aftermath of the 1974 revolution that toppled a fascist dictatorship and when a lot social issues boiled over. That moment still shapes how Portugal approaches many issues.

Yep, my cousin had the kids in public hospital, c section and was in a two person room with river view (totally renewed maternity btw), and spent 17€!! Ehehhe now that you mentioned it, it's true. Treatments like nails, to hair (even men and child) are specialized. Example, for hair we can go to chiado hair salons to have a bright cut fashion look, for maintenance we use the hair saloon of the neighbourhood. For nails, we have Russian manicure, brasilian manicure and of course, more shopping thing like nails R us etc. So, I recommend you to go there and do all the questions: prices, availabilities, if we do want to schedule when it would really be, etc etc. And you will feel the vibe. Some will be nice and polite, others will be deflecting... So you will find by experience the right for you. That's why it's so specialised 😛😅😁

When we first arrived, we just purchased the first prepaid plan we could find for the first month. Then when we were looking for a long-term option, Vodafone had a good promotion going and they are recognized for having good customer service. After doing some research we were only steered away from NOS but I think MEO or Vodafone are both good options.

US (so called) health care is abominable - your Government should be ashamed. Coming from Canada, I don't pay anything out of pocket for regular medical services. I like Vodafone. Try flying around Canada... the cost is horrendous. It's a lot less expensive traveling EWR to LAX vs YYZ (Toronto) to YVR (Vancouver). Invite lots of friends... and they must bring supplies!! Great video, it's enjoyable to watch the two of you... you are both so likeable.

No one in the western world needs vitamin supplements, it is an unregulated industry worth billions of dollars based on nothing but clever marketing and fear and misconception. Unless you are a sailor on some godforsaken clipper drifting around the oceans without any good fresh fruit, then yes, you can get a vitamin c deficiency and develop scurvy. A red capsicum is packed with vitamin c, eat one of those and save yourself a ton of money 😂. Any water soluble vitamin consumed in excess just gets peed out ( yep, no kidding). Pour some good olive oil over your salad to make fat soluble vitamins (E,D,K,A) digestible. Overdosing on fat soluble vitamins can lead to serious health issues!! To wrap this story up: Eat seasonal fruit & vegetables, lots of fatty fish, complex carbs, leave out fast food and highly processed crap, expose your skin 15 min per day without sunscreen to produce enough Vitamin D, ( face, arms or arms and legs will suffice), eat a balanced diet, don’t follow any silly fads and you’re all good as gold 😉. And yes, I am a medical professional, life can be simpler than you think... Bon appetite and happy savings 💰 bliss n bless 💖
