Outside of Final Fantasy X's amazing story, battle system and Lvling system, was a neat little concept, and no, I'm not talking bout the always fun Blitzball. I'm talkin bout the Monster Arena, where the owner tasks you with capturing certain number and type of monster, so that he can make newer, stronger versions.

What made the stealth fight with Mr. Freeze so good is that was built up. For one, even though Victor is one of Batman's nicer villains, he's still a sort of villain who feels like he needs to do evil for his loved ones, so a fight with him was inevitable somehow. And of course it's cause Nora was kidnapped for ransom. Two, Arkham City got you used to stealth beforehand, and the mechanics are solid. Fighting Victor tests your ability to adapt by making him adapt as well.
@WillieManga2 ай бұрын
You also got a good tutorial mission with Portal 2 in my opinion. Tutorial missions are meant to get you accustomed to the mechanics of the game, but can be easily drawn out if they go too long with nothing interesting happening. That's something some people did not like about Kingdom Hearts 2. RPGs can be pretty complex, but I think we spent more time in Twilight Town than we wanted to; about an hour before even the title card showed. Portal 2 more simple, so the tutorial is more simple. Like, look up and down, then walk to a painting simple. Its approach to tutorials works because it is hilarious! The exercise being simple, Wheatley's bumbling antics and the announcer's deadpan bad advice suit Aperture Science's absurdist humor quite well. Even redoing the first few levels of Portal 1 is made compelling because it's not just nostalgic setpieces, it's seeing how it changed in the supposed years since you went through them. So basically, in addition to it being engaging, the tutorial to Portal 2 works because it properly sets the tone, and that tone is funny.

I think the problem with most forced stealth sections is that, in the metaphorical sense, they make as if to cast you as the leopard on the hunt... but with mechanics that force you to act more like a gopher watching for hawks. And, at least in a game that's all about the action, it would be a lot more fun if you were allowed to act like that leopard. Stealth shouldn't have to automatically mean that you're the hunted. In nature it's more often an aspect of the hunter. So it should be adjusted to fit into the tone the game is trying to set in the rest of its gameplay, instead of relying on AI and mechanics that were ultimately designed to suit something entirely different.
@Neck41 Жыл бұрын
I have to say that True Crimes: Streets of LA had the worst tailing missions. There was this one where you follow a guy and he went around the same block 3 times before moving on....before he returns back to that same block and repeats. I literally followed the guy for ten minutes before the mission finished. Those missions were poorly done.

You absolutely don't get every force power Starkiller gets later on while playing with Vader since Vader doesn't use Force Lightning, or Lightning Shield but you do get most of them and I think they're upgraded all the way. Vader actually plays a lot different from Starkiller though, since he moves slower and has completely different attack animations but that also just really hammers home how much effort they put into that opening sequence and aside from my nitpick above I 100% agree with Jules here.

Speaking of good escort missions, Bioshock Infinite. If there is one thing the game that never was but at the same time kinda exists with a different gameplay style did right, it's Elizabeth Comstock. Or as I like to call her Anna... You'll find out why later... The game tells you to "bring us the girl and wipe away the debt." Because apparently finding a girl in a flying city is enough to pay off your debts. Why? Well, either way, once you find Anna, she starts following you around so she too can escape, and people who play Resident Evil 4 may get nervous about that idea, but Infinite subverts those fears, because there are 2 things Anna cannot do, which makes the game so much better than most escort missions. The first thing she can't do is get lost. You never have to wait for her; she'll just teleport to your position if you get far enough from her or get in an elevator with you. And you'll want her around because she provides you with health, ammo, money, and reality warping powers. Awesome! The second thing she can't do is die in game. She does not have a health bar you need to manage, no matter how chaotic the battlefield gets. Probably because Old Zacky wants her alive. Don't ask me why, it's pretty unsettling. You did it! You cracked the code on how to make escort games not frustrating!
