I remember my senior high school year (1975) talking to ROTC candidates how the F-15 could accelerate in a vertical climb. That was 48 years ago. Years later after university with a masters I got the job of a lifetime of which included supporting data and voice systems onsite for our customers. McDonald-Douglas St. Louis was one of those customers. I walked the assembly floor while these mighty jets were being assembled (1980's). I had chills most of the time standing next to one of these planes. They may be 4th gen but with new F15EX program they will live on in a new role. The speed is unequaled (Mach 2.6) agains't the F-35 and the F-22. Only the SR-71 flew faster as recon. Believe me...the F-15 will go down in history as one of America's greatest fighters.

thats badass, my pops used to load the missles onto the f16's and f32's and test the artillery and he always tells me about the F15 and how its the only jet that can verticle climb straight up.

F-15EX speed is second to that of Mig-25 Foxbat, Mach 3.25. But the fighter of Ex USSR has been a legend already.

Peter, thank you for posting this! I worked at the factory here in St. Louis, on the flight ramp as a mechanic, from '84 to '95. We were building Eagles, Hornets, and Harriers. I was a Harrier engine operator. Nothing in the world commands my attention more than the sound, sight, and sensation of a full burner takeoff into a Viking departure to 10,000 feet. 99% of all test flights of the 15s and 18s, were Viking departures, to get them out of the Class B airspace as quickly as possible, since MAC is on Lambert Field. It was especially nice when the Missouri Air National Guard transitioned into F-15Cs, and we got to see them fly almost every single day, usually in 4-ship formations, often with 2-ship takeoffs. Rarely did they get to do Vikings, like our test pilots, but they'd come back from their sorties in a right rear echelon over the runway, do a tactical break that was pure perfection, and land in single file. Sadly, that squadron transitioned to B-2s at Whiteman. Those are the "good ol' days" for me. The best part of my career, for sure. The Hornets were awesome too, and the Harriers had their amazing moments, but the F-15 Eagle is truly the best of the best. To date, it's the only American jet fighter designed with one purpose in mind: Air superiority, with no compromises. Yes, the Strike Eagles are fantastic interdiction aircraft, but they have to be... They are Eagles first. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

I was stationed in Japan many years ago. One day the ground started shaking and it was ungodly loud. We all ran out of our work vans and looked down the runway to see every aircraft on station (3 or 4 squadrons) lined up will full stores, none were blue. 18's were rolling off in 4's. It sent chills down my spine. less than an hour later they all returned with no ordinance spent. Don't know what went down but Kim Jong-il got lucky that day as I'd bet another base or two and possibly a carrier was doing the same.

Can you explain full afterburner ? How can you have half afterburner ?
@williamsimmons8899
@williamsimmons8899 5 жыл бұрын
@@jeffrobdine Yes, the E model flies the PW-229 engine that has 5 "afterburner" or fuel rings after the combuster that inject fuel directly into the augmentor. There are detents on the throttle that allow you to engage or disengage each ring individually 1-2-3-4-5 or you can just slam it forward all the way and instantly get all five for a max profile take off or for bfm. When an engine is swapped for maintenance, an engine run is required, if both engines are swapped it requires a double afterburner engine run on the ground. The jet is chained to the pad via the tail hook. I've stood less than 10 feet away from the nozzle actuators with both engines on full AB, it is quite an experience. The sound interferes with the beating of your heart it is so loud, lol. The PW -229 is much more powerful than the 220 that goes in the 16 and 15c/d, a stripped down E-model is capable of sustained verticle flight like a rocket from EOR take-off through most of its flight profile. I've had the pleasure of doing it several times.

I remember when i was 11 yrs old, I lived right next to mueller Airport in Austin tx. The gulf war ended and the military was landimg a lot of planes and helicopters there. Bergstrom airforce base was another 6 miles away so they were stopping to refuel. At least thats what i was told later. Man! For several days i was able to watch f16s, f15s, and a couple f14s take off and it was sooooo cool and much louder than passenger airliners. They all did the same thing. They all took off and pulled straight up hard into the clouds. Except one f16. He took off and turned hard left back over my neighborhood and then threw it into full afterburner about halfway into the turn flying right over my head it was incredible! And soooo loud. That was the last time i had an f16 at full honk about 50 ft over my head. My mom came outside screaming "what the hell was that!!!!"

This video highlights the major flaw of the F15 Strike Eagle. It is so bad ass that we want to watch thousands of them take off but there are not enough. And the pilots are so rude, taking off faster than you can film them. Who do they think they are. I will end on a positive note. The music of the engines not being over played by actual music earns the poster of this video 500,000 points. Well played.

I was around when they had F-4’s, that was the first time I seen a fighter take off and do a gate dispatch into the clouds… I became hooked. Then they got F-15c’s and I freaked out, I would drive down there just to watch them take off and land almost everyday. During my high school years I joined the civil air patrol and I got invited, well because I begged to come look at them up close and personal. They let me sit on in one, and give the simulator a spin… didn’t have a clue what I was doing, but I did it. The F-4 and the F-15 are in my heart forever

After-burners will drive ground-bound humans crazy after a while LOL. I was USAF 1977-1997, first assignment Shaw AFB SC. When they went into sortie wartime mode, F4 Phantoms taking off in pairs, one after the other for minutes on end...f-ing loud! Still love watching them. Many an aircraft landed and took off from Shaw AFB. The Poinsett Gunnery Range was located near the base and the various aircraft would land and refuel or stay the night at Shaw. Many would put on a show when they took off to return to their home base or next airbase. The most unusual aircraft I saw (only once during 20 years) was the British Electric Canberra.

Phantoms do have an annoying A/B noise. I think part of it was that the engines were not quite powerful enough for the weight of them. Worst for me was Aardvarks. We had 111's come down from Cannon once in awhile, and the 'boom' when the burner kicked in was terrible at 6am on a Saturday.

I remember going TDY there in 2018. The airmen TDY dorms were right next to the flightline and working night shift made it really hard to sleep during the middle of the day because those jets were so damn loud. Good times.

Greatest F-15 takeoff I've ever seen was at Dobbins ARB. Eagle driver took off, pulled vertical, and - while climbing - rolled 45 degrees. He pulled back on the stick till inverted, rolled level and was already on his heading.

Yes definitely our channels compliment each other well. I’ve only been to LN once and took no video footage. I may have to go over sometime to get some take offs and landings to include in a video. I’ll be at home tomorrow night and will go through your Chanel thoroughly. I’m interested to see all the models. I’ve lots of 1/18 cars but my pride is a 1/8 pocher Ferrari f40 that I bought assembled a few years back. It’s the nearest I’ll get to owning the real one 😂

Lol, that F40 does sound good! 👍🏻 The Lakenheath vid was a classic case of being in right place at right time, even wind direction was perfect (note the windsock) creating the perfect audio from the engines. Whereas each time I go to the Mach loop...nothing comes! 😤
