As someone who spent the first 35 years of their life either in diapers, begging parents for cash, or living paycheck to paycheck, I can't express how much of a literal "life changer" YNAB was for me. I went from checking my bank account several times a day, wondering if I could splurge on a burger or needed to ration my ramen, to a guy who can work on his finances just once a week or so! Not only were my wife and I able to quickly pay off student loans with YNAB's help, but I'm also no longer terrified of the power money tends to have over our lives! All of that just to say this: YNAB is just an absolute blast to use! :)
@bradleywpierce3 жыл бұрын
These updates are great, and the video is awesome. I do hope YNAB will do something at some point about the fact that the color yellow means multiple things (overspent, not enough assigned for target, not enough assigned to cover scheduled expenses, etc). Rome wasn’t built in a day though, and maybe I’m the only one who wants this, so for now, thank you YNAB!
@noodle_fc3 жыл бұрын
A while back I shared some thoughts about exactly that-yellow means multiple things. The support team was very happy to have input. My idea was to put the yellow bubble on the budgeted amount (now called "assigned") when the target or required-for-scheduled amount hasn't been reached yet. Seemed sensible since the budgeted amount is where the issue resides. Especially with this newest update, it seems like they are really leaning into encouraging people to set targets and due dates so that YNAB can streamline budget assignments. Making YNAB easier for new users to learn is also a focus. Viewing the yellow bubbles from that perspective, I think they make pretty good sense. Even though there's more than one reason an amount might get a yellow bubble, it seems to be a blanket indicator meaning "this category isn't completely funded yet." BTW, you should see overspent categories in red, since overspending means you no longer have sufficient funds to cover all "available" categories.

I just freaking LOVE YNAB! and not just because I've used almost every personal finance software out there and this beats them all, hands down. I love it because, as a technical writer, I GET how hard it is to describe technical concepts. The YNAB help system is one that I adore for its support model. (In addition to its mental model.) They strive to educate users and make it easy and simple: for *budgeting*, the most friction-filled experience in the universe. Hannah is a great and so is the entire support team.
