As someone who spent the first 35 years of their life either in diapers, begging parents for cash, or living paycheck to paycheck, I can't express how much of a literal "life changer" YNAB was for me. I went from checking my bank account several times a day, wondering if I could splurge on a burger or needed to ration my ramen, to a guy who can work on his finances just once a week or so! Not only were my wife and I able to quickly pay off student loans with YNAB's help, but I'm also no longer terrified of the power money tends to have over our lives! All of that just to say this: YNAB is just an absolute blast to use! :)
@bradleywpierce

These updates are great, and the video is awesome. I do hope YNAB will do something at some point about the fact that the color yellow means multiple things (overspent, not enough assigned for target, not enough assigned to cover scheduled expenses, etc). Rome wasn’t built in a day though, and maybe I’m the only one who wants this, so for now, thank you YNAB!
@noodle_fc
@noodle_fc 3 жыл бұрын
A while back I shared some thoughts about exactly that-yellow means multiple things. The support team was very happy to have input. My idea was to put the yellow bubble on the budgeted amount (now called "assigned") when the target or required-for-scheduled amount hasn't been reached yet. Seemed sensible since the budgeted amount is where the issue resides. Especially with this newest update, it seems like they are really leaning into encouraging people to set targets and due dates so that YNAB can streamline budget assignments. Making YNAB easier for new users to learn is also a focus. Viewing the yellow bubbles from that perspective, I think they make pretty good sense. Even though there's more than one reason an amount might get a yellow bubble, it seems to be a blanket indicator meaning "this category isn't completely funded yet." BTW, you should see overspent categories in red, since overspending means you no longer have sufficient funds to cover all "available" categories.

The description of the learning curve (at 1:32) is possibly my favorite part about this video. It spoke to my soul, very adequately described my experience trying to convert my friends, and made me laugh out loud. I'm so delighted about the changes that they've made to improve the new-user experience. I'm hoping I'll now be able to help my sister get set up with a budget that truly works for her, and that she will use. Game changer.

I just freaking LOVE YNAB! and not just because I've used almost every personal finance software out there and this beats them all, hands down. I love it because, as a technical writer, I GET how hard it is to describe technical concepts. The YNAB help system is one that I adore for its support model. (In addition to its mental model.) They strive to educate users and make it easy and simple: for *budgeting*, the most friction-filled experience in the universe. Hannah is a great and so is the entire support team. I use YNAB's support as a model for respecting the user.

If you wanna get REAL crazy you can start a brand new trial under a different email (no card required, so no worries about remembering to cancel!) and see what they REALLY go through! Starting a new budget as a current subscribed will you a simplified flow of what the new user goes through, but new users have a much more detailed onboarding process when they first download the app. Learning-driven design for the win!! -Hannah 🌻

One thing I couldn't find the link to suggest for the beta testing because I deleted the email, I think when you're moving money between categories instead of the button saying "un-assign" it should say "re-assign" because it's not being released from any job, it's being sent to a different one.

I logged on my YNAB this morning (just now, and YES, I'm at work!!! How'd ya know!?!?!?!?!?) and went "AUGH!!?!!?!? WHAT?!?!?!!?" ... then I clicked on the update news that popped up, then I went to the video... then I actually WATCHED the WHOLE thing (and i usually get bored pretty quick but I didn't!). AND... i had previously deleted the mobile version (didn't like it but love the computer version) and will go try it again, cuz Hannah said so!!! YNAB, I do love you. Hannah, scones, birds, and that WISK!!!

I wish they would create something where we could color code how we want our budget to look. That is how I did my hand written budget and it helped me alot. Maybe the powers that be will see this and add it to their next update!

Pretty sure Hannah is one of the only people that can take something I hate (change) and make it seem acceptable.

This girl cracked me up! I only watched it because she was so entertaining! I usually just like to figure it out on my own, but it really was helpful and probably saved me a lot of time. Love YNAB and I tell friends and family about it whenever the subject of money comes up. GREAT WORK!

OK. I'm scared to look at my tools. But, Hannah has made it more okay, I think. 'Change Management by Hannah'. I'm impressed and applying in my everyday work and with my team. Way to go!
