I genuinely don't think it was as bad as call as they implied it was. Tentacruel is weak to earthquake, and might have struggled against Winona's Altaria. Gyarados doesn't have great special attack, but does have the bulk to get 2 ice beams off against pretty much anything. I'm still not gonna claim it was an *amazing* decision, but it wasn't as bad as Jacob implied.

The hilarious thing about Ice Beam Gyarados is that, for whatever else Fyrus messed up, I think Ice Beam Gyarados absolutely was a better choice for Winona than Ice Beam Tentacruel would have been. Tentacruel would have been better against Winona's other pokemon, but I don't think Tentacruel would have been able to 1-shot Altaria and there's a good chance it would die in one hit to Earthquake after a D-dance. Gyarados meanwhile is immune to Earthquake, Altaria was forced to use Aerial Ace, which was able to tank pretty well. I think if Hayden had used his other pokemon for Winona's weaker pokemon and only brought in Gyarados for Altaria, it could have been a very clean play.

So, I was curious and I ran the calcs, and Ice Beam Tentacruel vs Earthquake Altaria both at level 33 is almost always going to result in Tentacruel winning. The only way Altaria wins is if it’s faster A Tentacruel with 0 IVs and 0 EVs in Defense and HP against a 31 IV Attack Altaria takes 95% at most, so you would need an Altaria with very high Speed IV going against a Tentacruel with a -Speed nature and then have 0 EVs in Speed with an average Speed IV or less I’m not exactly sure what the Altaria’s stats are, so they might not be as good as what I calculated, and there’s a good chance that Tentacruel didn’t have a -Speed nature, and if it did, then it would come down to how many Speed EVs it got and what its Speed IV was

Ok this was really fun, and as good as the ending was ( a solid victory from an extremely well-versed player), I think you get a more climactic ending if the person attempting Elite 4 is either somewhere in the middle in terms of experience (dealing with an E4 with mons you're not sure what to do with, maybe) to someone a bit less experienced! Not saying this as a "you should've.." sort of thing BTW but like, as a "you could.." sort of thing-- if y'all do this again anytime soon :D GGWP all 8 of you, regardless! Good run :)

I appreciate that Kidd planned what the end was gonna look like from the very beginning so what the rest of the team did didn't matter in the slightest and we'd have a silly ending like that, while still showing off some of the rest of the team's silly remaining 'mon. That was a lot of fun!
