I bought one of these, recently. Paid $71. The reticle in the one I bought is a red chevron with some ranging marks below it. Also has marks left and right, horizontally, for lead or wind. I put it on an AR57 chambered in 5.7X28. Out of the box, it was off by several feet to the right and several feet low at 25 yards. After getting it dialed in, it's been very good and has held zero. I figured a four power sight would be just right for the distances that I'd realistically be shooting with the 5.7X28. I've only had it on the rifle for a week, so I'll have to do more evaluation over time. So far, I'm very happy with this ACOG knock-off.

I just put a cheap 4x truglo on my "16 ar. My dad has a real ACOG that has never been mounted. The ACOG is still in the case. He said that i could use it, but im going to see how the cheap one holds up first. I actually bought it for a pellet gun, and it impressed me with the abuse that it has taken. I looked it up, and that truglo is supposed to be rated for shotguns. We shall see. ACOGs are really cool, but you can just get more versatile options now. I will probably go with a Primary Arms 1-6 LPVO if the truglo rattles apart. Who knows, we shall see. That ACOG would look good on my rifle, and they are plenty functional. That biggest thing about the ACOG is that they are built like tanks.

I could never spend that much on an ACOG either (especially after being issued one for free). Unless it was for work/duty purposes. You could buy multiple “Bing-Bangs” instead, and when you’re happy w/ your collection, then splurge on top tier optics ( if you’re fortunate enough to afford them) There’s a plethora of quality optics out there for a fraction of the price that’ll serve your every need. And when WW3 or the Apocalypse happens you can just find/gather them for free hahaha

This is true. I think that a lot of people will be upgrading if the time comes. I know people that have nice stuff and train. I know more people that have nice stuff and have never shot most of their toys. I actually know a guy that has been building ARs for about 15 years. Building them is his hobby. He reloads as well. He will make custom stuff for people (mostly cops on the area), but he has at least 20 of his own. He will flat out admit that he hasn't shot a gun in 10 years. He doesn't like to shoot them. He just likes to build them.

I like the 20$ Amazon red dots they’ve all been tough and reliable. Just get the old school aluminum tube style. U gotta turn em on and off their not shake awake but other than that ! For 80$ I’d rather buy other stuff like primers or something. Only spending 28$ on a optic is cheap but I like to get the very most for my $ my ar was given to me out of a house fire! So I had to replace everything not steel so it’s definitely a budget build but it’s reliable. 220$ build 268$ after dot sling mags etc. now that’s cheap
@protoman1214 Жыл бұрын
It’s worth it honestly. I have astigmatism and while some companies are finally making some decent prism scopes, they still fall short of the ACOG’s field of vision, clarity and ruggedness. Just because you were issued one for “free” shouldn’t diminish your perception of that tool. I know it’s a tired stereotype that all issued gear is crap but it’s just not true, there are some awesome pieces of kit that the military offers. And you don’t get to keep your issued gear, so the comparison of getting it for “free” is pretty silly Red dots and holographic sights are completely unusable for me.

I bought a cheap AR 1×4 from Traditions, (the black powder guns people,) a number of years ago. It's a friggin' tank and good enough for general field use. (Mostly AZ Jackalopes and plinking.) It's not that I wouldn't want a $1,000-$1,500 optic, but I don't hunt big game, I don't whore myself out as a contractor, I'm not a SWAT sniper and I don't have an optics budget that high, so it's nice to see that "cheap" doesn't always mean "crap" anymore. A lot of people spend a ton of money on optics when it is not necessary to get glass that is comparable in performance. In the past making quality lenses was the major cost of optics and the truth is that manufacturing high quality lenses today using CNC manufacturing has drastically reduced their cost. The second major cost is the design and precision necessary to manufacture the tube, internals and support system for those lenses. Thanks to CNC machining those costs have also come down. I like this thing and for quality non adjustable, fixed magnification optics and red-dot sights you don't need to spend a ton of money. If it works, it works. So don't buy an optic just because of the label or bragging rights. Do some research, shop around and use that extra money for ammo.
@macgyver5108 Жыл бұрын
8:42 you're _so close_ to using a very accurate off-hand shooting form called the "Olympic rifle stance" (do a Google image search for that!)... The reason it works so well is when you put your elbow onto your hip you're then using a _bone on bone rest_ vs just muscles. There's also a couple ways to use a regular rifle sling/strap to add more support.

Practice a bit more on a cooler day without mirage. You can cut that group in half which is critical before you double or triple the range. Right now you can hit center of mass on a torso which what the military strives for anyway. Days are getting hotter and mirage is going to be a concern for good accuracy.

Holy Hair! ha nice shooting brother. The real test with these budget ACOGS is how well they hold up to abuse. Will they hold a clear zero if submerged in water, dropped in mud, dropped on pavement, etc...?

Maybe it will work out? Not sure that one performing at the top of the lone. With more practice at shoting, you can learn to shot better with more magnificatiio with such devicies.

How is the eye relief on that pinty I have a keschi knockoff everything about it great except the eye relief you pretty much have to hold it against your face

Id go with that on airsoft but thats about it. Of course i don't blame folks You can buy two decent rifles for the price of an ACOG

They are usually on Amazon! I’ve studied em a bit apparently their not perfect 1x but u can shim em out to get em right. I like the Amazon 28$ red dot pinty seems to be pretty good. I’ve bought a few of their 28$ dots and had good luck but is sucks when u have a stigmatism in your 👁. If u have a stigmatism and u want the reticle in focus a magnifying optic will look good to u.
