@@YesTheory you should definitely come again and explore more of the country, such as my home city of Plovdiv, which is possibly the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe. Definitely explore more of the coast and go to Burgas and Varna, possibly go to one of the weirdest communist landmarks - the Buzludzha monument, which looks like a flying saucer... the list of interesting places can be quite long :) 🇧🇬

An ex-pat Dubliner here, living in Bulgaria nearly 15yrs now. I live in a rural village close to Burgas. I work here. Love Bulgaria and Bulgarians. My better half is Bulgarian and very good friends with Geri. They had a trip to Rome earlier this year with a gang of Bulgarians and loved it. Bulgarians don't have a lot, but they are intelligent, clever, very practical and know how to make the most of what they have. Geri is a wonderful, very positive person, a unique human being, a whirlwind of positive energy. You were very lucky to meet her as you did.

I am Greek, and my family immigrated to Bulgaria in the 1970s, fleeing from home to escape unfair persecution. Ever since, Bulgaria has welcomed us and given us a second chance in life. Here, my family flourished despite the hardships of the 1990s and early 2000s. Nowadays, this place seems to be a haven for young people, low unemployment and cheap prices. I have an international job that allows me to travel a lot, but thankfully, I always return home to Bulgaria. The people here are the nicest and most helpful I have ever met. I hope you will soon visit and explore what this diverse place has to offer. You’d be impressed! Thank you, Yes Theory, for finally showing a glimpse of this piece of heaven and, of course, for introducing us to Gergana! She is a gem!

I am one of the people that left this beautiful place. One of the reasons i did that was you guys. The main thing i learned from your videos was that i needed to explore the world for a better understanding of it. After 6 years , about 30 countries visited and countless people befriended i can comfortably say there is no other place that i would want to spend the rest of my life in. Seeing this video now is just another reminder that i need to book my flight soon . You could have done a bit more research and seen a lot more of it however. I recently did a similar trip with a British guy to just show him around. Next time you want to visit , give me a ring , im willing to lend a hand. Thank you for the great content!

I did more or less the same. I travelled across almost all countries in Europe and N.America, most of the time hitch hiking and just sitting on benches observing the life of the locals, and when I was on the verge of going to Asia or S.America or Africa, I was like... "Nah, I'm good..." and I came back. Best decision to leave and best decision to return so I can appreciate Bulgaria the way my grandparents, greatgrandparent and parent do and die giving my best to the people in the country I was given birth in. The biggest impact for me was South Spain where I saw how the majority of locals, instead of becoming economical imigrants, chose to have less but be chill around their family. And weirdly enough... Less money doesn't mean lesser feeling or experience. I am so inspired that for 5 years I haven't even left my hometown. I work 24/7 renovating my relative's and friend's apartments, and giving all my energy for the people around me. Hurry up in returning we need more people to chill with while working! Life is so easy when you're home away from the jungle of soul seeking imigrants accross the tourist areas. ;D

I had a friend in college who was from Bulgaria. He loved the fact that he came from there and really enjoyed the Bulgarian way of life. He said his favorite things were swimming in the Black Sea in the morning. He also said the fruits from there were way better than the fruits he had in the US. However, he also realized that there weren't many opportunities in the country either, and he had plenty of opinions about the state of the government. He told me his dream was to eventually buy some land near the Black Sea, plant some fruit trees and some vegetables, and live the good life. I hope he gets that, someday.

Bulgaria has lots of opportunities. The government has nothing to do with your chances of success. I am from Bulgaria, have a good education, good profession and a good life. Low prices mean low salaries. Since Bulgaria is part of the EU, they can move and work visa free in any other EU country for much higher salaries. The reason for population decline is this simple.
@MalumnikaKir4o
@MalumnikaKir4o Ай бұрын
I don't neccassarily fully agree with this. I think there's a bit of nihilism driving this. Some of us Bulgarians left because we - and our parents, friends, everyone - believed that there's nothing for us here. Since I returned, I've discovered that this is not entirely true, and in many ways, our negativism about the future of Bulgaria has tricked us. We might get lower salaries, yet the costs associated with taxes, housing, childcare, and utilities are drastically lower, while salaries in Sofia are approaching the levels of Central and even Western Europe. That's not to say that we don't have major issues or that many people don't leave because they *know* their lives will be better. I think it depends on a person's circumstances, and as people, we should not fall to nihilism but rather be more objective about the strengths and weaknesses (and issues in particular) of Bulgaria.

I moved from the UK to Bulgaria for a year and i personally loved it. Stunning country, beautiful people, and lovely culture. Its a place you can just keep exploring, but i was fortunate because i was working a remotely at the time and i had a decent income for the country. Economic opportunities are far and few and particularly for people living outside the main cities. The saddest thing i found was how elderly people were being cheated of their pensions. Their pensions are so low they can barely afford anything, but there is a culture of growing your own produce. I will say this, the way the public helped and treated elderly people also gave me a lot of hope in humanity. Bulgarians are very respectful people.

Who is cheating the elderly Bulgarians of their pensions? It would be a good thing if the public could work to stop the mistreatment of the elders and help them avoid criminals who are stealing their pensions and quality of life. @@SniperLogic Bulgaria is indeed a safe place, actually, the foreigners I have seen, described Sofia as one of the safest capitals in Europe. @HriStorm_56 Ай бұрын
You are very correct about Pensions. My grandma is being cheated because her whole life she pays bills specific for pensions and then she still has no pension at almost the age of 70 and when she gets pension it would be something super low, lower than her current job, that's why she is still working, and she is working at manufacturer, every day she has her vision being blinded by the machines which she welds metals, has to assemble parts and other stuff and this work doesn't pay a lot at all but its one of the hardest jobs and the worst part is her pension will pay lower than her job so at that age she is still working the hardest job, with still no pension.

Hi guys, another Bulgarian here. 🙋🏼‍♀️ Earlier today, my friends sent me your video telling me “Guess where they are this time”. When I saw the caption, I immediately knew it was my country. At first, I felt a bittersweet emotion - yes, they finally came to Bulgaria, but they will most probably be disappointed. However, I was wonderfully surprised by the result when I watched it. You captured the beautiful spirit of the Bulgarians and showcased our amazing nature, culture, and traditions. Personally, I've never visited Alexander Nevsky or seen the nestinari live, despite traveling the world to explore other cultures. Thank you so much for reminding me how great Bulgaria can be! Perspectives like yours are why in the end I always choose to come back and fight with the cockroaches (even though I hate them), metaphorically and literally speaking. You're always welcome back! We have many other beautiful cities that I think you'll love. Also, I noticed you didn’t try kiselo mliako and banitsa - needs to be corrected! ❤

Right before the video started with all that pictures I already knew it was Bulgaria , Bulgarian here btw (living abroad) been following you for sure more than 7 years so far even if in mo longer that consistent .. since people didn’t say it openly in your video , well burglaria is really beautiful and safe place the people , traditions , cultures , nature and how we do our parties are as well , but sadly if you work there most of the times you get less than the half of what you would get in another country for the same tipe of work so sure if you work abroad or come after retirement everything looks cheap but if you worked there you would actually see the struggles , also it’s wildly known for it to be corrupted , the loans our country still sometimes takes from eu which may not repay in the next 2 generations , and our government , there may be other motives for locals to leave those are the ones that come in my mind right away. But trust me we aren’t leaving because we don’t like Bulgaria , we are leaving out of necessity , and I can assure you every Bulgarian abroad dreams one day to go back to Bulgaria again, when the conditions would be better. And see all the relatives and friends they left. Because there is no other place where we can feel more free and at home than in Bulgaria. Trust me there are a lot of people like gergana , we sometimes look a bit stubborn and expect hidden motives for any good action , but overall it’s on our culture to be really friendly , respectful and well managed (obviously there are exceptions but it’s a minority)

as a foreigner who is working in bulgaria i don't agree with this; if you work there most of the times you get less than the half of what you would get in another country for the same tipe of work so sure if you work abroad. yes salaries are lower but everyone has their own home (unlike the west) and those who are living in small cities grow their own food. besides that, the rest is true but corruption is almost everywhere in the world. for me, the positives are more than negatives. i like here very much

@@Danny-wv8ec That is a part of the culture in Vienna. I am from the Austrian south and worked a decade or so in Vienna, and I had to adapt to the Viennese grumpiness, which wasn't that easy for me. It's partly a facade, partly not. Where it is not, it comes from where people who do not feel the benefits of their very rich and safe state with ultra-low criminality and relatively high state-secured pension. Of course, that pension and welfare system is (as always) behind the current economics, and many people are struggling. But, for instance, unemployment rates are very very low now, but people are still unhappy, this time not to get their high-salary dream job (instead of getting no job at all).

Lads, you did an AMAZING job capturing the spirit and the soul of my country. You are of course more than welcome to return any time you want. And to be completely honest, i think you will, because Bulgaria isn't a country you can only visit once and simply live with the memory. So not IF, but WHEN you decide to visit again, i'd suggest you take a trip through the Northern half of the country and if you can plan it properly and be in Veliko Tarnovo on 22nd of March, when it's the city's anniversary, in the eveninig at 20:00, right after a gorgeous street parade, you will get to see one of the oldest and largest forstresses in Europe the way you won't see anywhere else. Finally idk if anyone told you this old legend, but for me personally it's cool and i love to share it with people from around the world. As you came to see for yourself, our country has extremely beautiful nature. The legend is that once upon a time, when God was giving out land to every nation in the world, he completely forgot about the Bulgarian people, because of their timid and calm nature, they never spoke up. When God fianlly gave out the last piece of land, only then did he realize his mistake. He felt so bad for the Bulgarian people, that he decided to give them a piece of heaven he had saved for himself. That legen really sums it up nicely - a slice of heaven. Our country is a dichotomy country in the sense that good and bad go hand in hand, but i think we are on the right path, although it is still a long road ahead.

@@redinabloogs8477 well it is what it is, there's people from all sides, but out of all the countries I've been and I've been to quite a few, Bulgaria had the worst racism
@peterdimitrov-dg6gu
@peterdimitrov-dg6gu Ай бұрын
@@naveed755 You are not wrong about the racism part. Most people living there never lived in a society with people from different backgrounds. As we already know, Bulgaria has some of the lowest multicultural rates in Europe. There are Bulgarians who are ignorant only hearing the negative stuff of others thus why racial incidents are not uncommon. I feel bad that this occurred to you guys and I hope these few horrible people did not tarnish your experiences. These are one of the many problems in Bulgaria despite having great things. I hoped you guys still got to enjoy a bit there and lets hope that there will be a little change regarding it.

As a kid growing up in Bulgaria, I didn't see or understand the problems that had taken its toll on Bulgaria and on the Bulgarian people... My mother usually tried her best to take care of us, while my father was working and helping us from Denmark... It's now when I live in Denmark (that I also had moved from my home country) that I began wondering and seeing some of the problems that this country and not only Bulgaria, but many countries on our planet, have been 'plagued' by. But despite the circumstances my life had seen, when I was young, I was very fortunate to have, as a child, experienced some of the true beauty that this country beholds. Something I was fortunate enough to mostly have held within me. That is why I believe that despite being affected by the negative side of society, love shall always be the key to unlocking the door to true happiness... Even if it is sometimes hard to follow the path of love and respect. Thank you for the video Yes Theory 🇧🇬

What are some of the problems you can see now in Bulgaria after living in Denmark?
@luboyanev
@luboyanev Ай бұрын
@@jamieguthrie1760 funny enough, I had also moved to Denmark from Bulgaria when I was 19, and some of the things that stand out to me are better health care, cleaner and more organized cities, less crime, less stress due to higher income.. but at the same time I've been considering if I should move back to Bulgaria or another warmer country, as Denmark for 4-5 months of the year is very rainy, with thick clouds and has nowhere near the beautiful nature that we have in Bulgaria. As a foreigner in Denmark, also the social connections have been quite harder to make compared to being in your home country with good friends and family.
@savagedarin1236
@savagedarin1236 Ай бұрын
@@jamieguthrie1760 It is hard to define it to be honest... It is not only in Bulgaria that i have seen "problems"... One thing could be the mentality of our societies, but every countriy has it's upsides and downsides... I just think it is important to acknowledge the upsides and strive to make them better for everyone in every country :)

When you return, you will see that it's not all this funny as shown on the video. Coming to live here with salary coming from Western country ok, or if you are in the IT sector will be good for living and it the 4 big cities. Living in some small village far away from those big cities and depending on a job there, no chance of survive or only survivor day for day.. But when you see the shity administration, stupid police officers that don't know English and can guide you or when they are ignorant about your stolen items or you being raped or something like that you will start to dislike it very quickly. And about the medicare if you have paid medical insurance from your company you will be ok but if you decide to trust the "free" medical care from the government, oo la la, your movie just begins and it's genre is going to be HORROR. Yes on video and coming to be here for some time with good health is ok, but if I have the chance of escape from here I will do it. Follow or P.M. for more tips.

You guys rock - awesome video! I had a proper laugh, and I absolutely love Gergana's vibe. You accidentally shoved me into the fire while I was dancing around you, and a few days later, I found myself in hospital with a nasty burn on one of my feet 😄. But no worries - I’ve recovered quickly and I’m not holding a grudge, promise! ;-) After nearly 10 years in the UK, I’m one of the few who’ve recently made the move back to my beautiful home country. Unfortunately, everything you mentioned rings true, but there’s still hope for improvement. All we need are sensible, clever folks to lead the country, not clowns who’d sell it out. Best of luck, and do keep the videos coming!
