80's classic hard rock solos and 80's hair metal guitar solos are probably the best examples of melody and flash technique both together!
You have the speed picking, string bending, vibrato, catchy melodies, legato, arpeggios.... you have it all.

This is lore, and I've heard several different versions. The gist is that George loved Warren's tone so much that he stole (and returned) a head or two to go into the studio and record with Dokken. I think they're buddies, or were at some point. Clearly their styles are very similar. They are the first two guys I ever saw do the sliding vibrato thing. George claims that he came up with that because he couldn't figure out how to do what we would consider "common vibrato technique". If that's true, then possibly Warren got that from him. There are also stories that Warren helped George learn tunes for an Ozzy tour. I'd love to sit in a room and talk with both of them, and more importantly have a jam session. I was weened on Ratt & Dokken!

It's called a harmony. You record it on a separate track and play different notes that are in the same scale but either a few notes lower or a few notes higher.
