I just wanted to say thank you for these videos. I used your videos to help lead me through a lift install on my 1997 80 series. Even using a floor jack and jackstands, I was able to do the entire process in about 3 1/2 hours.

Thank you for taking your time making this video. Very detail. I myself own a 1996 j80 for 25yrs. And is time to give her something back for the years of service it provided for us. Your videos will help me and others to look forward and work on it. Thanks again

@ 6:42. There might be a place on the frame and the lower part swing where you can use a small jack to push out for clearance for the new spring. I enjoy your videos. Appreciate you.

When pressing out/in control arm bushings….using some heat from a torch really helps. Just make sure to move the torch all the way around the outside of the control arm bushing hole.

Just did the front install yesterday and it was a cinch compared to the rear! It took about 1.5 hours for both, doing it alone. For the driver side upper nut, I used a non deep socket 17mm and then put a swivel + long extension to an electric impact. I then used a big vice grip to grip the dust cover. The swivel was maybe half way in (Could not use a deep 17mm). It came off with ease after a couple short bursts from the electric impact. Once the sway bar was loosened, the shock just dropped! Turns out, my driver side shock had no nut at the bottom and half of the stud broke off (It looked super rusty), so it was not connected to the big hole. Yikes.

I was wondering where you placed the jack to raise the front of the truck from the start. Also, which piece is the radius arm and does this have to be loosened to replace the shock only. Thanks in advance!
@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 5 жыл бұрын
We put the lift arms right behind the radius arm bracket to lift it. Doing it on the floor you'd jack from the axle on each side and jackstand under the frame. You don't need to loosen the radius arms to do the shocks. The radius arm is the link going from the axle to the frame on each side.

Do you use anti-seize on the nuts and bolts? I find it works amazing especially if you are anywhere near the rust belt. Will you do a ride update with that suspension set up? Trying to decide on the slinkys or the Dobinsons. 2" would be nice.

if you loosen the frame side bushings before the spring install you will find that the suspension becomes alot easier to deal with; it should be reset anyways as part of the lift procedure to center the bushing in its rotation (all bushings should be left slightly loose until the weight of the vehicle is on the tires, then torque them to spec). also, you put the ratchet strap on the wrong direction for install of the panhard rod.
@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's easier to do the bushings first. You can't get to them on the lift I was using. They got reset when I did the radius arms in the next video.

Great channel for owners of the 80 series have LX 450 1996 and am changing out the front shocks. Is it as simple as undoing the 2 bolts/shock without any restraint on springs or removing the front wheels.Your advice greatly appreciated.
@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 5 жыл бұрын
Yep, it's just pulling the nuts off of the shock studs top and bottom. It's easiest with the wheel off and the axle drooped but you can do it with the wheel on and the truck on the ground.
