Could you possibly do a “what I eat in a week?” I just finished making my grocery list, it’s just my husband and I, we go shopping every Friday and we have a $200 a week budget which is $800 a month. We usually eat out once a week (on Friday after our grocery trip because who wants to cook a meal after putting groceries away) we usually get a coffee from a cafe one a week and also get a dessert/pastry/donut once a week too! We eat all our lunches, dinners, breakfast and snacks at home besides that and try to eat less processed foods and fresh produce over canned or frozen. We shop at Aldi and our local grocery store called Meijer

@rosecheawu1945
@rosecheawu1945 Жыл бұрын
@@spiritualantiseptict really depends on what you are eating frozen versus fresh. If you are a smart shopper and good cook or at least knowledgeable in the kitchen, you'll know which to buy fresh versus frozen. For instance for smoothies, I buy a lot of frozen fruit rather than fresh and I freeze fruits that I have a large quantity of if it'll taste great in a smoothie. I make fried rice with frozen because the vegetables are chopped very small and taste and texture wise, there isn't a big difference. Stirfrys MUST be made with fresh, so everyone who makes stirfried dishes with frozen, that's why your dish doesn't taste as good as the restaurant's, because most of the flavor in a stir fry comes from the freshness and crisp texture. Making a spaghetti meat sauce or soup, you can use fresh or prep and freeze vegetables to use later or some frozen just for the soup because the long simmer is going to change the texture anyway. Roasted vegetables taste better from fresh and of course you need mostly fresh vegetables for salads and sandwiches but you can use defrosted frozen peas and corn in salad too. Nutritionally similar, but doing it correctly is better for your pocketbook.

Breakfast is probably eggs or uncooked oatmeal with fruits/berries with milk, water or yogurt. Lunch is usually cold, oftentimes bread. I didn't notice them buying any so it's very likely they make it themselves, it's very common. Dinners are usually something simple consisting of veggies, meat/poultry and carbs, very often potatoes. Of course it varies, but that's what my experience in Denmark was like and Norwegians are similar in their behaviour 🙂 It would be interesting if she replies though.

If food supply can be an issue there, what about medicine? Are the healthcare facilities/hospitals as good as other places? I used to love the idea of living in remote areas until my inappropriate sinus tachycardia got so bad that I had to be medicated. Now I worry about going anywhere that I couldn't get my medication or to a decent hospital in time. You never know when something life threatening could suddenly happen. I think a lot of people just go through life blissfully ignorant until a health issue randomly strikes them like lightning. I know I did. I miss those days. 😅

Sounds like the same cost as here in Australia. We are an island but thanks to our govt, necessaries including energy is very expensive. Even when we mine our own 😜

why dont they setup a grow house for fresh foods like herbs, easy vegetable to grow, aquaponics etc. if anyone complains about the cost of operating this grow house, then look at how much its costing you to import your food... Never mind the job opportunity there as well.

Are you able to grow your fresh produce in your home with artificial sun lighting and keep them warm too? Is it more expensive to maintain the garden than buying the imported stuff from your grocery shop? :-(

Won't ocean fish be cheaper there? I mean for 3 meals a day, fish or sea food in the noon and fish soup or stu in the evening, with a fresh or pickled veggie side dish, having only breakfast to be a meal made fully of imported items could be an improvement for the budget.

You may think that’s expensive, but that’s what we pay in the United States for a week of groceries for two people. And we are not on an island at the top of the earth. Life is getting very expensive.

It’s not just about light. They do not have the soil and the importation of soil, fertilizer, and seeds can introduce non native pests that could wreak absolute havoc on the ecosystem. No matter how careful people are.
