What do you think about this reel would you be buying one are they better then the Stella fj they look like it’s easy to work on oh
@Benjamin-S4 жыл бұрын
It really depends on what you will use it for. As he said in the video, they're not really the same kind of reel. The Stella FJ is much heavier. I own an Exist LT and my buddy owns a Stella FJ and we both use ours for redfin perch finesse and jigfishing. For that kind of fishing I actually prefer the Exist LT because of the weight and overall less "heavy" feel on the retrieve. I've fished them side by side and I love them both, but for this kind of fishing the Exist LT just feels nicer when comparing it directly to the Stella FJ. They're equally quiet, the Stella barely wins with smoothness but the Exist takes that back with its fantastically light retrieve. The bail click on the Stella gives me the warms and fuzzies though. The bail on the Exist LT doesn't click when it trips, but the trip is very definite and that is something I find really nice. For the fishing I do the Exist LT is a nicer reel to fish.

What I get from seeing the corrosion on the main gear is that there is a risk of corrosion if I'd fish my Exist LT in saltwater. I often fish brackish water but maybe I shouldn't do that with that reel, or at least be very careful when doing so. In all honesty, I'd skip the twin power. It offers really no advantage over the saragosa that justify it's price tag. The stradic and saragosa are perfect mid priced reels. I've owned a twin power and the sustain, i wasn't impressed. They fished no better than my stradic and saragosa. Also the twin power's drag blew out twice while jigging. Love your stuff! Have to admit, you make it hard to stick to a budget though. Going with a Daiwa BG for light inshore/beach. Follow up question: Have you done anything on "disposable" reels? I generally keep a Shimano IX4000 in my box, just in case. If a good reel has an issue, I can set it aside and use the IX. If the IX gets even slightly off, it goes in the recycle bin. Cheap insurance!

I have an IX2000 reel. The only thing I don't like about these is the play in the crank. Makes it weird to stow them. I buy them at Rural King for $12 no matter whether it is a 2000 or a 4000 series. Then I through them on a $15 Shimano rod. Can't really beat them for the price, but damn that play.

Loctite makes a product called 495 instant adhesive which is very expensive product at 30 bucks for a 1 ounce bottle but it does amazingly well bonding a number of metals , alloys, plastics and other materials used in reel production. I have used it on reel foots, cracked reel bodies, it fixed a line roller issue filling a worn out gap which developed , it fixed a old penn surf reel with a chipped spool, and also works great on things like cracked face plates. Not sure on the actual material of this reels material however its worked on other shimano parts and held up fine until a rebuild could be done. A rebuild is the obvious the best way to go however if you have a accident and really need the reel in a hurry this stuff can save your fishing day. Last used it on a Shimano 12000 bait runner which i dropped and broke the reel foot and the loctite 495 bonded the foot fine. The reel held vs a series of giant Northern Calif bat rays well over 100 lbs and a big ole thresher shark.
