Do not sleep on this impact gun! I use it regularly in a trash truck shop in the rust belt, and this thing is the real deal. No, it is NOT a competitor with the "high torque" models, but it gets damn close. It has tackled corroded fasteners on brake chambers, air tanks, compactor bodies, the list goes on. It gets a ton of jobs done. Very impressed and satisfied with this tool.

I have a 05 f150 with stock rims. It took a 1" impact to get them off after 80k miles. Should I get this or step up

2:00. Apparently they have issues with their batteries. I got one with coolant leaking. I called customer service, thet registered the drill and battery. And sent out a new battery no hassle or fuss. I love skill tools and easy to understand customer service representatives

The tools stops when there is no tension! Very cool feature, and WAY important. If you're using an impact, the nuts and socket can wobble and shoot off the impact at very high speed. Air impacts can quickly accelerate to 3,000 rpms and eject the entire socket, the lug nut inside, and an extension, especially if you're using a "Universal Joint" socket adapter, to reach into a hard to reach location. The Skil stopping when it senses no load is a huge safety improvement.

I haven't used Ridgid power tools since before the switch to brushless. Compared to the quality I saw back then I agree. Last Ridgid drill I had threw a 3 inch spark out the motor vent when you took your finger off the trigger. We'll get more Skil tools soon and well be getting into new brands soon, Ridgid included. Back in ‘86, I picked up the Skil professional “Top Gun” 12 volt drill driver. Case,drill,2batteries and charger. Fox Lumber sold them. It was a powerhouse! OTJ we used Black & Decker industrial cordless drill / drivers for pinning boxes to metal studs. The Skil outperformed them. Makita was pretty dominant with their cordless and the stick battery, but IMHO the Skil was a better tool for me. Even had 1/2” Chuck. Years later they entered the market with 18volt cordless tool sets that Menard’s sold. They weren’t as powerful as the old Top Gun. Seems like they never had a place in the ever growing cordless market, that DeWalt, Makita and now Milwaukee were dominating, until now. This new line of Power core tools has really stepped up to the plate. I’ve purchased and used the 2 battery worm drive and their version of the “hackzall” love them, and the quick charge batteries. Had Batteries plus make me a couple batteries for my ole Top Gun. Nothing compared to the originals! Happy to see SKIL back in the game, and producing these contenders! I am mostly a Milwaukee guy, especially their m12 fuel series. I decided to try Skil power core 40 volt power head trimmer and the 520 cfm blower. Both far exceed the cost in performance, especially on sale through Amazon. So far I have their 5" brushless orbital sander, the new XP 7.25 circular saw, this impact (just received it Tuesday) and their Brushless Reciprocating saw. Next is the brushless jig saw. My early building career was with a Skil wormgear circular saw. I still have it. Skil has been a brand I'm am very comfortable with. FYI, if you are ever in need of a beast of a circular saw and you are like me and enjoy having the blade on the left, get their corded Sidewinder left blade circular saw. It has all the internals of their wormgear but in a standard saw. I bought this last year and I would put it up against any saw, any brand. Plus you get the left hand blade without the weight and size of a wormgear. Take care brothers.

Ryobi is prolific with their releases and variety and obviously you can never really go wrong with Milwaukee, but Chervon has a lot of my favorite stuff and quality at every price point across the board...Skil, the battery-powered Kobalt tools...good stuff at reasonable prices...and of course Flex and Ego are top notch.

I agree! The shear selection of Ryobi tools gives them a real advantage, and all are 18v. I almost bought the Kobalt tools when 24v line came out maybe 8-10 years ago. The lack of selection was the deciding factor. In the end I bit the bullet and bought more Milwaukee. Skil needs to keep pumping out new products to stay competitive and I think they know it. Do you have any long term reviews of the Skil batteries? There are a few reviews which give glowing praise to the Skil tools. But nobody has any information about the long term reliability of the batteries.

Have been using Skil for almost 5 years now. I have alot of tools from the earlier models to the new XP:s. The batteries have low power consumption and don't over heat easy. The 2ah batteries don't work that good with the more powerfull tools and for the XP and brushless tools i like to use the 4ah and 5ah batteries. The batteries quality is not on the level of the XP products quality but they are still good. DeWalt batteries are better no question! The best part is that Skil have good customer service (Europe) and they have replaced the batteries that have gone bad. 4ah batteries are solid, but i have had problems with the 5ah batteries. The 5ah batteries have known problems and i don't know if it's fixed in the newer batteries. I hope Skil will come's out with larger batteries in the future.

I've been using both 12v and 20v pwrcore for 3 years now. I only had 1 issue but I'm pretty sure my girl friend used it drained the battery and put it back without charging it. I called they sent me new one no hassle. For diy you can't beat it

I now own a fair amount of both Skil and Ryobi tools and honestly I prefer the Skil. Ryobi is definitely king when it comes to selection though. It'll take Skil years of cranking out new stuff to best Ryobi in that respect. Otherwise I'm not a fan of the dated Ryobi battery design but keeping it the same all these years has served them well so I don't blame them. Thanks for watching!

@@ProjectsForAllReviews Ryobi’s batteries don’t bug me (except for that wrist sprainer of trim router - oof). After I blew out the Ryobi table saw, I got the smaller Skil and love it. My biggest complaint is EVERY piece of outdoor Ryobi stuff is absolute shit. I’m super close to waiting until Black Friday week to see what Makita is offering (got my eye on the 40V chainsaw, amongst others)

@@thefrankperspective4247 I agree with you on the Ryobi 40v stuff. I have the mower, snowblower, big hedge trimmer and blower. The handle on the snowblower if floppy garbage and the mower cuts horribly. I have to do the lawn twice otherwise there’s rows of uncut grass. Doesn’t matter if I do huge overlaps or just a little it’s the same. Skil has me almost switched over except the mower. I plan to ask for one or buy it. You’ll find the Ryobi stuff on Chicago marketplace in the spring.

I'm locked into Ryobi batteries 18 & 40v. Head to head with those 2) drivers made an interesting comparison. I think GM's lug nut spec is 140ft lbs. Thanks for presenting this review.

I've got the the RYOBI mid torque impact, and yes it was purchased before I was on another battery platform. It's been great when I needed it but I have a Milwaukee 3/8" mid torque that's stronger than the RYOBI. And the RYOBI's voltage protection/heat protection circuitry is either over protective or the whole damn tool is just under built. It works better in the cool/cold weather than the hot summer. When come across an extra RYOBI battery charger, I'm getting rid of the bitch. I like RYOBI as a brand, don't get me wrong, they make some truly quality tools at a price point. And that mid torque impact saved my ass the 1st time I used it. I consider the tools overall grade to be B+, it just isn't the same neighborhood as an A/A+. For a 1/2" impact to remain in my arsenal, it must be exceptional. The Milwaukee M18 FUEL High Torque is approximately the same size as the RYOBI's mid torque. That makes it the perfect replacement for the RYOBI. Thanks for video. Glad to see SKIL is expanding it's line.

They also have a new 3/8 compact impact Id love to check out. 25 years ago I paid big money for a Snap-On impact off the truck, I think its 600ft/lbs...probably less nowadays. Skil and Craftsman are both gunning for Ryobi market shares, but I think Skil has a better parent company that’ll allow their lower tier brands to even come close to their flagship brand in specs. While even with them trying to match Ryobi’s variety of tools, S/B&D protects Dewalt from their own brands to the point that craftsman and porter cable are just shells of their heritage and are pretty gutless. It’s sad really, I’ve got a 40 year old craftsman 113 table saw I’d fight over if someone wanted to trade me a new sawstop for it lol.

I completely agree. Craftsman is the saddest one of you ask me. There was a time when that’s all I bought. Almost thirty years ago my mom took me to our local Sears and bought me my first mechanics set for my first job. There’s still a ton of them in that Icon box. That floor jack is OG Craftsman and 25 years old, still going strong. I browse occasionally at Lowes but it’s not the same. It’s been fun for me watching Skil work to come back.
