Advise: when you use that type of hone, you want to flip the block and go from the bottom as well. This will give you more consistency. You also want to count to say 10-15 passes then stop, flip the block and do 10-15 from the bottom. You have to clear both ends. If you can mike the sleeves you'll find a difference. With that said, I would have a shop do it professionally. Just my comment.

why do that when you can have the machinery to do it yourself?

I’ve watched a lot of build vids. Yours is by far the best for mechanically inclined folks without specific engine building experience. I am a millwright and I build turbines and compressors and am looking to overhaul my 1.7 vtech. A couple things we do on the big machines is we clean mating surfaces with a honing stone and we chase every thread with taps, die nuts. And our honing fluid of choice is kroil.

Have a machine shop hone cylinders to size and resurface the heads. You're not going to be able to get 5th place decimal accuracy unless you have a bore gauge and are very experienced using a hone. Also you should use waaaaay more lube than just misting it with WD40. You got a lot of hate for that hone but you live and you learn.

@BoostedS20006 жыл бұрын
Hey man, congrats on the 5k! But just a little tip, when honing cylinders on a 4 cylinder, you don’t go in order. You actually jump around so the heat in the cylinder can dissipate to avoid minuscule warpage. On a 4 cylinder you’re going to want to do 1-3-2-4 that way you’ll allow the cylinders to cool as much as possible before heating the one next to it up!
@SPTuning6 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I cant imagine it getting that hot it would show up unless boring the cylinder rather than honong, but i like that way of thinking ! Im all for working with cool rather than hot parts. Thank you for the tip!!

It's amazing these little engines last as long as they do at those power levels. At 750hp this would be kind of like taking a small block over 2000hp, which, obviously, has also been done but it takes a lot to do it reliably.

Yeah. The good thing about the way its being setup rn is that it has good drive ability and under load it makes the power

Great video very helpful. How ever I actually found out from my machines that that aluminum engines do not get hot tanked . Because they will warp much easier . I watched hi. Pull my block out of this big metal cabinet machine . I asked him if it was a hot tank . He said no. That's a big mistake. You don't got tank aluminum . It's called a jet wash .lol . Just figured I'd inform you all lol.

I’ve always heard to only file one side instead of both sides of the piston ring. That way no matter what 100% one side is straight and true, other side gives you the extra gap by filing it away.

Great tip! Ill make sure to include that in our upcoming videos. Appreciate the feedback

Reminds me of how I did my 6262 turbo forged internals and super tech built head k20z3, I clean the block the same way you did and had the wheel from summit that I ordered to cut the ring gap. My block and bearings were oem specs so just a tad bit easier for me. Made 360whp @7psi tuned by vit for the street conservative tune (stock fuel system). Great tutorial I did all this with so much uncertainty of myself but worked out well (4,000 miles in so far so good). Best of luck

@jesusurbina7343 Жыл бұрын
Dumb question, so you have to file the piston rings in order to get the proper measurements right? Like if I understand correctly you started at .20 with the top ring so you filed it down to get .18? Or whatever the measurements are, stupid question but feel like its an important thing to know before I build one for my civic

hello @sp tuning how do you know what gap the rings needs to be? is it specific for each motor/cylinder? putting same pistons into a b18c1 81.5 cylinder. I see you initially measured 21 for the bottom and 13 for the top. how do you know you needed 18 for the top and 20 for the bottom?

What oil pump are you using on this engine? Do you think a stock one will be ok for 400hp?
@quinton78546 жыл бұрын
quick questions, without your rings on the pistons the piston goes in the block so easily, when I do this with my LS stock everything I have a really hard time with the pistons going in smoothly, have to give it a little force, should I bore the block out slightly? also with stock rings doing it the sameway as you are doing it, my ring gaps are so much bigger.. should I try another set of STD rings?

Great vid! Just outta curiosity what was happened to the oil pump? I don't think you've ever elaborated on it after you had the issue at the track. I putting together a very similar setup for a street car. I'm running a standard "type r" pump with upgraded toda gears
@SPTuning6 жыл бұрын
Toda gears very nice 👌👌 basically 2 thinks happen. I was running to Twin does clutch with no clutch stop, in the clutch esentially over pushed in the clutch and ran into the back and of the oil pump. I also had a CTR pulley which is a solid non-harmonic balancer pulley. Which is all good for an NA B16 CTR, but not for a higher horsepower car so between those two factors oil pump grenaded
@Jiff_af6 жыл бұрын
Yeezus lol. Ok I can see all of that happening. I'm running an OEM LS crank pulley and a 6 puck sprung clutch. So I should be ok, don't expect to push more than 600hp, maybe 350 on the street. Anyways. Good luck with your build, and great job on the channel bro.

I’m curious (and kind of too late because my transmission is back in the car) what do you think of the phantom grip?
@SPTuning6 жыл бұрын
Honest opinion : phantom grip is a good CHEAP alternative to an lsd (cheap in quality and in price) . Low horsepower street car (300hp or less) i think its fine as long as your not dumping clutch alot and can launch it softly to not hurt drivetrain much. That being said, i would highly reccomend saving up for a quality name brand LSD or a good OEM LSD. Do it rightfo it once. I wanted to test out the prodcut so i coukd give feedback and ill be upgrading along with other internal transmission parts soon
